Hi, it's me, the original Tawnya!! I made it through my first night pain free. Today is a different story. I woke up feeling fine, drank some breakfast and then got my first liver sonogram. That's when my tummy started to hurt.

Dad is doing good. He's breathing on his own. He's coughing and he is also in some pain but the doctors say he did great and should recover nicely. He has tubes coming out everywhere which they say is normal and he's bloated but that will subside soon. All in all, it has been a great turn-out!! I'm so happy that I had the opportunity to save my father's life. It's wonderful what they can do now a days.

I got two lines taken out today and now I'm getting boluses every hour to keep my pain at a minimum. Other than that, I'm feel pretty.

Thank you all for your support and prayers. You people are so special to me that words can even express how gratified I feel for having you in my life.

Dawn your an amazing woman and I love you!! Thanks for posting for me. I'll be calling you soon. I'm getting tired so I'll post after my nap. TTYS! T

Heather- even though you did not have us prior to giving your kidney to your father you had us shortly afterward. You should be proud of yourself if it was not for you, this section would probably not have been created or if it was it would not have succeeded without you. :-)

HI, everyone. I will be in the hospital until Friday. My pain shot through the roof, so for the past 3 days I was in agony, PURE AGONY and couldn't post. They got the pain under control and tomorrow they are taking out my epidural and winging me off the liquid drugs.

I'm walking and feeling pretty good. The pain has been the worst thing for me so far. Dad is still bloated and now all his lines are out (mine too, no more lines, just IV.) He is pooping nicely but we both have the worst gas pain. Our stomachs hurt and my incision is on fire sometimes.

Dad will be here for 2 more weeks. We are still drinking our food. We both went today for sonograms and tests to see if we have bile duck leaks, we'll know the results tomorrow when we see the surgeons. We are both tired and sleeping a lot. Dad has good color and he said he's feeling stronger.

We asked his surgeon how his liver looked when she opened him (yes, he had a female surgeon) and she said " your liver looked like !" It was shriveled and soriased. She said he was worse off than they even thought. She was surprised he was feeling so good before the surgery. Then she looked at me and said you came in the nick of time. My dad smiled, cried and told me"thank you baby." I told him "any time" and we all laughed and then cried because our incision hurt to laugh!

We are doing good. Thanks Heather for your support and Rise for creating this site. We are truly unique and special here, all of us. I showed my family all of your posts and they were like who are these people? I'm like these are my transplant buddies. My aunt thought it so cool to be able to reach out to people who have gone through similar experiences. I agree with her. I love you guys!

I will post again tomorrow. TTYS. T

Tawnya - I'm sure I can speak for everyone who's posted in saying we were worried about you. Thanks for checking in.

Any explanation for the sudden pain? Is that typical for liver donation? I was so proud of going number two after surgery - I was probably 2 or 3 years old the last time I felt that kind of pride. The entire process is a reminder to not take even the smallest things for granted.

Recounting your conversation with the surgeon brought tears to my eyes and a flood of the same kind of moments - laughter then tears, hugs and holding hands... words were woefully inadequate on both sides. This Sunday I thought of you in church as I sang the words to a hymn:

Because I have been given much, I too must give;
Because of thy great bounty, Lord, each day I live
I shall divide my gifts from thee
With every brother that I see
Who has the need of help from me.

Because I have been sheltered, fed by thy good care,
I cannot see another's lack and I not share
My glowing fire, my loaf of bread,
My roof's safe shelter overhead,
That he too may be comforted.

Because I have been blessed by thy great love, dear Lord,
I'll share thy love again, according to thy word.
I shall give love to those in need;
I'll show that love by word and deed:
Thus shall my thanks be thanks indeed.

Tawnya - your thanks is thanks indeed.

Hi. They just took out the epidural and I'm on pain pills now. We will see how it goes. They are going to give me something every 2 hours for now. Thank god.

They said the reason my pain was so bad is because I wasn't having the nurse bolise me every hour and even though I felt no pain at the time, it creeps up and then it's hard to control it after it spikes.

The nurse would ask me what pain level I was, and mine was a 3 and then 2 hours later, I was in agony! The doctors said that is very common. If you go without your med's too long or even a little bit, the pain can spike to a 10 and that's what happened to me.

I felt so drugged and very little pain at the time, that I didn't want those bolises and even if you don't want it, you should take it anyway so it doesn't get out of control. I'm just glad it's over.

It was so painful, I don't think there is a word for what I felt. I thought at one point I was going to pass out! Dawn warned me not to let the pain catch up or else. I'm a baby when it comes to pain and I thought I felt fine but the pain is so incredible that it surpasses the drugs if you don't take something every hour or so in those first 3-4 days after surgery.

Now, I'm fine. I'm walking with no problem and getting up on my own. If all goes well, they will release me Friday. I'm eating real food now, I love my mango's!! At 5 they are taking out me cathader and see if I can go # 2.

Dad on the other hand is not doing good today. He is very bloated, gasy, and has bad diarrhea . The med's are also messing with his head and he is starting to get depressed. He doesn't want visitors. The doctor's said the bloating is normal, and the diarrhea might be from parasites which is also common.

They are trying to get everything under control. I call the charge nurse every hour to check and see how he is. Please pray for him. My sister went to get his bible and his own pillow. Pray that he cant find a place to go in his head until this passes. He is very frustrated. I will post more tonight. Thank you Chad for that wonderful little prayer:-) T

Tawnya,
I am so happy to hear that you are feeling better and that your spirits are high!!!

As for Dad, of course he has all of our prayers and my angel Anthony to watch over him from above! He has had a long haul and hopefully things will start to turn around soon for him. Anthony got very confused, agitated and down right beligerant when they first started the meds in him... give it time, he will be back!

Rest well, we have a cruise to go on soon :-)

wow..you sound like your pain was like mine with my kidney donation. Mine was never under control..it was awful. I recall making them send up the pain management team and they told me they were giving me all they could..it was unbearable at times so I can sympathize with you. It will get better!!

Praying for you and your dad. I think confusion and stuff is normal with just anethsesia..let alone being on all those drugs and of course they will need adjusted. Hang in there!!

Hi.OK. I got to eat real food again today, it was yummy!!My pain is under control now. I'm on 2mg of Dialudid for the next week in a half and then Darvon for next 2 weeks.

I'm going home tomorrow!! I miss my cats, my hubby and my sports car (which I'll be letting my hubby drive until I can).

All my tests came back great. NO BILE DUCK LEAKS! Yeah! No pain today so I think they nailed it. I feel strong today and I'm surprised how much energy I have. I do feel changed, maybe it's these new wings on my back:-) Yup, I'm one of you guys now and it feels great!!

I just got back from seeing me dad and I looked at him smiled and thought YES YES YES, this was meant to be. He's doing good and he will be returning home in a week. Both of our heads are cloudy and we are not completely sain yet but we will be very soon.

M dinner just came. I'll post more tomorrow. T

Hi Tawnaya.
I am thinking about doing what you just did for my dad. I am going through it in my head. If you had time it would be great to write to you and see how you made your decision to go through it and how you are doing and how it all went.
My dad has been waiting for a liver for 3 years and the doctors to him that is better for him to get a living donor. Both my bothers were tested and they were not matches for different reasons. I have a 3 year old son so I am worried that I won't be there for him.

I hope all is well with you!! I know you are on your way home today so i wish you luck!!

Hi Buddies, I'm Home! Home Sweet Home!! I just showered with my delicious pomegranate body suger scrub and moisturized with 'Freddric "Ferrcar' body souffle. Put Cream De La Mer on my face and drank a homemade smoothie my hubby made me. Life is fabulous!

Dad is doing great. He's coming home Monday, yeah! All his bloods are good, no rejection, no infection and the swelling went way down so they're cutting him loose. It was all good!

I had a great room in the hospital. It was a brand new unit and it was like my own studio apartment. I brought my boom box and all my girl things so I actually enjoyed my stay.

Heather.... I know what you mean when you say the word PAIN. Mine got managed because I hit that red nurse button every 3 seconds and demanded to see my surgeon. I lost my mind at one point. A doctor came in to tell me he was going to give me some atavian to relieve some of my stress. I yelled at him and told him no! I want pain medicine not atavian.

Then, he tried to explain what atavian was and I threw a cup at him and told him that if he didn't get my surgeon in here right now to control my pain, when my husband got here, was going to start kicking some asses and then you'll know what if feels like to be in pain. I yelled go, go, go!!

Ten minutes later, a surgeon came in and apologized that they were scrubbing for a pancreas transplant and that this would make me feel better, and I was out! She knocked me out. When I woke up, 3 people from pain management were there and my hubby, they told me they were upping my dose, upping my bolises again and I should feel better soon. They were right. It worked and I was pain free again and I never spiked after that.

Right now I'm still good. I'm on dilaudid 2mg every 4 hours and it's working. But yes, when you can't relief you'll go to extremes!! I'm sorry Heather you suffered. I couldn't take it any longer. They probably thought I was possessed!!

So I am feeling better. There is a new comer here who needs my advice. She is thinking about donating her right lob to her father, her name is Keri. I'm sure you all have heard from her. I'm going to try to get a hold of her. I will post tomorrow.

I thank the Majesty King for having you all in my life. Shout to the Lord on the earth let us sing! I love my buddies.

Doing great today, eating and no pain today. I'm enjoying TV and my magazines. Tomorrow I'll be going to my in-laws for mother's day. To all you mother's out there "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY.

Hi, everyone. Just wanted to check in. I'm doing really good today. The pain has finally gone away and all I feel is a slight tightness where my incision is. My appetite is big. I'm eating and eating. I guess my liver takes a lot of energy to re-grow. Still taking it easy but I'm starting to get bored.

Dad went home last night and he looked a lot like himself. We both have to go back to see the surgeons on Monday for our first check-up. Everything is getting better and better with each passing day. I'll post more tomorrow. Ttyas. T

Dad was rushed to the hospital by ambulance today. The transplant team will have him back as soon as he is stable. I don't know what happened because he is staying with his sister who lives an hour away from me. When i know more, I'll post. Prayer please!! T

Hi everyone. Just talked to dad. He's back at the transplant hospital and they are trying to find out what happened. Apparently, his blood pressure dropped dangerously low, 75 over 62! Thank gosh that is the only thing that happened. It's just his blood pressure. They said he was loosing fluids really fast and they are looking into why that was happening.

He is very worn out and hungry. He had a long hard day. He told me he is all hooked up again with IV's everywhere. I'll go visit him tomorrow. They are also going to check out his bladder. He is going to the bathroom constantly so they want to checking everything. The Urologist will see him later on tonight. TTYAS. T

Hi Tawnya,

I am very late in responding but I have been following your journey with your dad. I am sorry to hear your dad is back in the hospital. I am sending positive thoughts and prayers your way. It's a good sign that he is hungry.

Hi, everyone. OK, dad is being released from the hospital today. He had an enlarged prostate which was making him pee all the time and he wasn't able to hold any fluids. His kidneys and bladder were working overtime which made his blood pressure drop. They are checking to see why his prostate was so enlarged.

I talked to him briefly, he told me he needed some rest and to call later. That's all I know for now. I'll post more when I can talk to him and his coordinator. T

Hi everyone. I just wanted to check in and let you all know that I'm recovery nicely. It's been a month since my liver donation and I feel good. I am getting bored and I'm just waiting for my incision to heal. Still lounging around watching TV, reading, and studying my court reporting stuff.

Dad is home and recovering. He's doing good. No episodes since the last one. He's going to get more blood work on Tuesday. Thank you for coming with us on our journey. Your support and prayers have been a god sent. Happy Memorial Weekend everyone!!

Oh Dawn, how I would love to jump on a plan and head your way. The problem with that is, I'd be walking around with my shirt up the whole time. Was your incision SENSITIVE when the glue and scabs started to fall off? My incision is so SENSITIVE! I'm walking around in a cute turquoise tube top and a short flowy white skirt. I can't wear a dress or have any material touch my incision. I have no numbness and I feel everything on my stomach. That's why I'm so bored. I can't wear any cloths to go anywhere, so I'm just sitting at home studying my court reporting stuff and watching TV.

Yes, LadyDi, I'm sick of talk shows to say the least. I've read every book I bought and looked through all my magazines, bordum has officially set in.

Dawn, don't fret though, I still want to do a cruise or something fun on a weekend next summer. I only wear bikini's so we'll be baring our scars soon enough. I hope my incision starts to feel better by the end of June cause I want to go to the pool and lay out! I also miss the gym more than anything. I feel so flabby and soft. How is your training going? Hi Tawyna, the boredom says to me that the ole T is back!!! Congrads on such an uneventful recovery! That IS a good thing.

I didn't have the issue of material touching my scar as there is still a good 4x4 square that has no feeling. that is from the incision in the area between that and my bellybutton. It is an odd feeling to not have feeling and the surgeon says at this point I won't ever get it back. It doesnt bother me however.

My trainng...Ugh... I have been in constant pain for the last week now. I received a deep tissue massage on Thursday and got some relief from that. I have pain, and yes I mean pian, radiating down from the base of my skull through my upper spine across my neck to my jaw line and my shoulders down through my right arm which had my fingers numb for a few days. No reason, I just woke up stiff one morning and it got progressively worse. No running for me for just about a week now. I still can't turn my head completely left or right???? I have raised over $1000 so I need to get past this and get on the road again. I am going to try to get another massage this afternoon, I set my alarm for 4:45 every day and then when I can't move I have to just lay there til it's time to get up.

For the best results for your incision scar make sure you wear full sun protection for a complete year. I carried around one of those sticks that they use for babies with sunblock at like 10000 and just continually rubbed it up the length of the incision. I was able to tan my body but that lil ole line remained safely white. It looked odd at that time but now I don't worry about it anymore.

love and kisses

Hi, Dawn. Oh, honey you sound so stiff. That sucks! I feel badly for you. I hope you loosen up soon. I love running, it's my thing. Just hearing you talk about running makes me miss my work-outs. I've never been injured but I stretch forever before and after my runs. How many miles are you running or should I say WERE you running? Maybe you should go go every other day to run until your back full throttle. I hope your massage makes you feel some enjoyment and lessens your pain.

I always use SPF when I lay out and I will put SPF all over my incision if I make it to the pool this summer. I also bought a tank-tini so my stomach won't be so exposed to the sun. I also have 5 tubes of pure coco butter to help the scaring and the spa I go to gave me a bottle of this treatment for scars to try. If that doesn't help, I'll get some IPL done. I'm armed!

I hope you raise lots of money and I hope your pain goes away so you can run, run, run to the finish line.! How many miles is your half marathon?
