I must admit I have been borderline diabetic for some time now. My most recent A1C was getting up there. What took me so long to realize that tiny switch with my food portions would work so quickly. Whatever the case maybe, my glucose numbers are back to normal now. This gal is hoping to gain some muscle now because I am taking in more protein and less carbs with each meal. Perhaps I am taking in the same amounts in total. Not sure because I do not count my carbs. I simply measure with tablespoons and handfuls. This is the easiest method for me

So far so good but I am not going to increase the protein as I am concerned about putting too much strain on my kidneys.

Rise, there is a book that might help. It is called 'Food Values Of Portions Commonly Used'. I have the eighteenth edition and there may be a newer one. I got the idea from my dialysis nutritionist. The authors are Jean A.T. Pennington and Judith Spungen Douglass. It is published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins ISBN# 0-7817-4429-6. You can use labels, but this also has information about a variety of things--meats and all kinds of things.
