Has anyone here returned to scuba diving (or begun) post heart transplant? I see a few news stories on the web about it, so I know it's been done but am curious if anyone has any first hand experience. My oldest daughter is getting curious about trying Scuba and although I haven't really thought about it too much since I was transplanted, I can't see any strong reason why I couldn't do it again (proper precautions of course) with her. I was open-water certified for 15 years before my transplant and I still swim rigorously and am quite comfortable in the water. Thanks for any advice/comments.

The only thing I would suggest here is to talk with your transplant center. each has their own ideas as to what we should be doing, no matter what kind of transplant you have had. Just to be on the safe side.

Yep, always clear things with the transplant center. I will talk to them again. My transplant cardiologist and I had discussed it briefly before and after transplant and he didn't see any reason then why it wouldn't be possible (he was a diver), but that was a while back now. I will definitely start very slow and will always be merely a 'recreational' diver ... no ice, decompression or cave dives.
