Today the journey begins in earnest!!! My story starts 5 years ago when I received my first kidney transplant. While I had been in decent shape most of my life I made a commitment to myself, my donor, and my family to push harder then ever to live a strong and healthy life. My transplant was on October 18th, the end of December my training and quest for knowledge began. However the more I searched the more I realized that very little information was available to the transplant patient regarding anything more then very general fitness and nutritional advice given to the recent recipient. This is something I hope to change! I have an official blog that I am developing but I wanted to get started now, and I wanted to bring this community together to share their experiences, links to information, and recommendations for nutritionists, nurses, and Dr's who have been of exceptional help along your journey. So here I will document my personal experiences, labs, nutrition, fitness routines, so that maybe we can all discuss, learn, and grown the knowledge base for those that will come after us! |

As can happen in this crazy world, things got a bit hectic since my original post. Besides being a firefighter/medic I also owned a business whIch I'm in the middle of selling. I've decided my time is far to valuable and I'd rather spend it with my wife and 5 year old daughter. Our time is just too short, as we all know, to live for work. I've secured a website name, TransplantAthletes.com, which will eventually be filled with nutrition and fitness information from medical experts and transplant athletes from around the globe. I also hope to highlight a different recipient, their story, and their accomplishments each month. I've got high expectations but I'm up for the challenge. So this week... I had labs on Monday and all looked excellent, though I was a bit anemic and my Vitamin D levels were just a bit low. My nurse has started sending me my complete labs via email as a PDF. So I spent some time creating an excel spreadsheet to track all my values and highlite levels when they get too high or low. My hope is that this valuable info will help with my training goals as well as help me better set my nutritional goals. Workouts have been going well, generally. I had a small set back when while finishing a workout with 6 sprints I did something to my foot. I believe it's a sprain though I may have broken a toe. Either way I didn't let it stop me, I just adjusted my plan and focused on exercises that didn't engage the ball of my foot. Yesterday's workout looked like this: 4 rounds- (60 seconds rest between rounds, 15 seconds between exercises) Squats - 145 lb ( as many reps as possible in 1 min - average was 26) Heavy Rope Slams 1 min continuous with side lunge (1 1/2" rope 40' long) Single arm Push Press (65 lb dumbell 30 seconds each arm) We then finished with 1 minute plank complexes, repeat 5 times If you've never tried heavy ropes, Battle Ropes, give them a try if your gym has them. They are one of the best cardio exercises I've ever done. Enough for now, I've been typing on my phone as my computer is being used elsewhere in the house and my fingers and eyes have about had it... |

Great idea~ I added an announcement area to your blog which will enable you to create different titles for your blog. Hope you like it and hopefully this will encourage you to enter more information to your new website.
