Looking back thru my old photos, I discovered this one of my 3 oldest offsprings, Glenda, Ronnie and Cindy at the beach of the Gulf of Mexico in south Texas back in 1963. My oldest daughter Cindy is now almost 50yrs old.
Our family car was a '63 Ford Falcon, purchased new for $1,985 back in those years.

Attached you will see 2 pics of our very recent rain in S'E' Texas this morning whilst we were sitting on the outside deck drinking our coffee. Our last rain was over 2 months ago back in May. It's been very dry and hot as hell, by golly.(Triple Digit Temps)

A huge surprise for me today. I rec'd a message from my dear friends in England, Bryan and Sue(Andrew's Mum & Dad). They informed me that they had visited Manchester Saturday and were very surprised to see Simon Cowell and his X-Factor audition crew. They snapped these pics and sent them to me....... I want to share some of my memories of my trucking days. Attached you will see 2 pics of my "Safeway" jacket. I wore out my own jacket many years ago and one of my dear friends had this jacket hanging in her clothes closet for over 20 years. She gave this jacket to me 1yr ago and I had it dry-cleaned. It is quite small on me, though. These jackets were presented to each one of the drivers for "Safe Driving". I drove trucks for Safeway more than 16yrs without a accident before my heart transplant in 1991.
My nickname was "Safeway Bob", given to me back in 1975 by a very cute lit'l cafe waitress. 
Gosh !! I surely do miss those ol' trucking days, driving down the hiways, looking at the world through a windshield.

Just a note to let you know, we're sitting down here at the Magnolia Diner at this very moment 6pm. Gene and I have our laptops with us whilst our wives are gone to their regular "Hen Party" with their lady friends. I have attached a pic of me, Gene and his wife Kathy. Pic was taken up at my daughter's lakefront property on Lake Limestone a few months ago. Gene is one of the closest, best friends that I have. Ironic though, he's the same age as my heart, since my heart donor was 8yrs younger than me. Gene and I both celebrate our birthdays on May 18th. We have had annual parties here at the Magnolia Diner for the past 3yrs with many friends and kin in attendance.
Kathy and my sweetie Darlene have become the greatest of friends.

I was just sittin' here thinking about my past trucking days and remembered a cute tale about my oldest daughter Cindy. She and one of her girlfriends were traveling down Interstate #45 one day many years ago and just beginning to pass a 18-wheeler. Just as they began to pass(not yet in view of the driver's cab), my daughter noticed a mans' arm hanging out the driver's window with a wrist watch on his arm. Cindy immediately shouted "That's my Dad !!", recognizing only my arm. Sure enough, it WAS me. She was truly thrilled when I pulled that big rig off the road and spoke with them awhile on the side of the highway. 
This incident happened several years prior to my heart transplant.

I once sang on top of a flat-bed trailer in Paris Texas at a talent contest when I was only 12yrs old, two yrs after learning to pick a guitar. My Dad requested that I do this, so very nervously, I stood up there shaking and singing in front of the folks in the audience at a regular Saturday afternoon Country Fair in Paris, where most of my kin-folk live. I think I sang "Your Cheating Heart" written by Hank Williams Sr. (I was scared silly, by golly)

Yesterday when I was in the Houston Medical Center having some Cardiac tests performed, I met a very nice young man in the waiting room. He appeared to be in his mid 40's age wise. I discovered after a few minutes of conversation, he was also a heart recipient. He rec'd his "Gift of Life" in 2003 after being hooked up to a LVAD for over 6 months prior to his transplant. I then explained to him,I had rec'd my new heart over 18yrs ago. He was quite surprised and his eyes seemed to brighten up after hearing my testimony. We then began to discuss our various events during our heart transplant journey and enjoying every moment of our conversation.
Just prior to our conversation, several people had been sitting around the waiting room, very silent and in a very somber mood. After overhearing our conversation, the whole complete group of folks joined in with us, inquiring about organ donation and the many wonders of the outcome of organ donation. I was totally surprised to learn that many of these folks were not totally aware of the giant leaps that organ transplantation has achieved over the past years. One woman in the group was even totally surprised to learn that very small newborn infants even receive organ transplants. We also discussed the feelings of donor families.
We all have our job cut out, educating folks about the wonders of organ transplant.

Attached you will see a pic of one of my very close friends A.D.Carter. We were both Supervisors at East Texas Motor Freight(ETMF) back in the mid to late '60s here in Houston on the North Loop.
As per the pic, we were reunited in Conroe at the IHOP several years ago after being apart for more than 35yrs. He lived in California for many years but now lives in Athens Texas.

Tribute to my Safeway driver friends.
I rec'd this heartfelt message from our sweetie Karen Vernon, trucking office clerk. She now lives in Minnesota.
A good many Safeway drivers have left us and gone on up to that big 'ol highway in the sky known as "truckers heaven." It's roads are lined with their favorite truck stops and the prettiest waitresses they ever did see. No waiting to load or unload, no wrecks, no flat tires, no traffic jams, just miles and miles of pavement surrounded by mountains, forests, rivers, and the most fluffy white clouds and blue sky you could imagine.
I still miss them all, but I know they're happy where they are.

I once was having a heartfelt conversation with my son Ronnie about our own relation father to son. I asked him how he felt about me as his Dad. He quickly replied: "Pop, you remind me of John Wayne". This was the most wonderful compliment he could have paid me, by golly. Ronnie was 30yrs old at the time of that conversation. He is quite wonderful himself, and I love him dearly. Attached a pic of Ronnie and his dear wife Traci. Ronnie served 2 hitches in the US Army, has a 25yr old son Josh, who is now serving his 2nd hitch in the US Army, also and you can see his youngest son Trent in the foreground of this pic

Ol 'Bob,
I definitely emphasize with your footnote. When I was first diagnosed, my first thought was my 2 boys. Since my cardiomyopathy was idiopathic, I thought it may have been familial cardiomyopathy because my Dad passed away before there was even such a thing as cardiomyopathy. So I had both my boys checked with echocardiograms. Thank goodness they were free and clear. I encourage them to get echos regularly just to be on the safe side. Now I have my beautiful little granddaughter and I worry about her. One day she was panting and I had to really talk to myself and I said, "Self, don't get paranoid now, the child was just running!". My son is wise after having a sick Mom for many years so I am sure he knows what to watch for. In the meantime, we just enjoy her and trust the angels above (probably her great-grandparents) are looking after her.

My oldest brother Clarence, passed away in 1966 due to a massive heart attack, long before milestone procedures were discovered in Cardiac Care. Later on, my Mom & Dad both received open heart surgery. My oldest sister Bea now has a Cardiac Pacemaker. I never realized I had heart problems 'til I was 45yrs old. Ironic as it sounds, my very first heart attack happened on "April Fools Day" April 1st 1985. My oldest daughter Cindy made a phone call to her younger sister Glenda and quickly explained that Dad had a heart attack. Glenda, naturally thought Cindy was joking and shouted "April Fool". Of course they headed down to the hospital as quickly as they could.
Meagan, it's only natural for you to be overly concerned about your grandchildren. I'm sure they will be just fine.
Question:
Have you ever read about our mutual friend Micky's health history on his website?
He has been plagued with many medical problems most of his life, including Rheumatic Fever, brain tumor removal, three separate heart surgeries, including his heart transplant in 1999, followed by major Hernia surgery a few years ago. Micky truly has his own Guardian Angel.

Bob,
My Dad passed away in England shortly after JFK died. As a youngster I was very upset about the Kennedy assassination. I really admired him (I guess I have dated myself now )  . Like you say they would not have known at that time exactly what it was. They said it was a massive coronary thrombosis. I believe it was what I had, cardiomyoapthy, and so does my entire family. One of my brothers has had several bypass surgeries. My other 2 brothers do not have heart disease but the oldest had a kidney transplant. My third brother died 17 days after birth. He may have had heart problems too. Who knows? One of my great-nephews had a heart problem when he was born and had to take heart meds for the first six months of his life poor sweet angel. Thank goodness he is fine now along with the rest of my nieces and nephews.
I did read Micky's page and we have been in contact with each other. Thank you for introducing me to him. He is amazing considering everything he has been through. He is indeed a miracle survivor and he definitely has many angels watching over him. We found we had a few things in common including that he lives 23 miles away from the only brother I have left in England. My brother also used to play in a band like Micky does. I have asked Micky to let me know if he happens to meet any heart-livers in his travels. He is a very nice chap.

Heck lit'l lady, I am 69yrs old. Hard to believe I will be the big "70" in less than 10 more months. Since my heart donor was 8yrs younger than me, that makes Micky the same age as my heart.
Yes, I can remember that very sad day of Kennedy's assassination there in Dallas. I was living 35 miles west of Dallas in Ft Worth at the time, driving trucks(lorries) for East Texas Motor Freight Co. In fact I was making a delivery at the cemetery in Handley(near Ft Worth) the same day of the Assassin Lee Harvey Oswald's burial. A 24hr police guard was placed near his gravesite for fear of vandals.
OMG You do have a history of heart problems in your family also.

.....even though we live thousands of miles apart. I love this guy as if he were my own brother, by golly.

It truly saddens me, that after I get acquainted with various folks awaiting a heart transplant, we seem to swap many emails in the beginning but after they regain their good health, they seem to drift away from me. I'm still concerned about each and everyone of them. I still stay in contact with my dear friend Andrew Wilson's parents there in England even though Andrew passed away over 4yrs ago. They very recently sent these 2 pics of Andrew's "Memorial" tree that they planted in his honor shortly after his death. Tree is now 9ft tall.

Thanks for sending the tree photo. Our four trees in the park are doing well – we watered them the first year, and they endured this awful heat wave. We are going to plant a grove when The Methodist Hospital builds their place for transplant patients to stay while in the medical center for surgery. It’s going to be called “Nora’s Home” after Dr. Gaber’s daughter who gave her organs at age 7. Dr. Gaber is head of transplantation at Methodist. The plantings will be called The Living Bank Grove. We have 15 people who have bought trees to be planted there.

Did you receive your kidney transplant at the Methodist Hospital. Did you know that famous movie star Jerry Lewis(MDA Telethon) was once in that wonderful hospital many years ago.
I plan to purchase one of those trees to be planted in "Nora's Home" in the Living Bank Grove near Methodist Hosp.

Bob,
My transplant was at Methodist, Dr. Gabor was scheduled to do it but last minute changes and Dr. Knight was the surgeon. When I go for check-ups I see Dr. Gabor or Dr. Knight. I have a 1 year appt. on Aug. 24th. I have seen info about his daughter and the plans for Nora"s Home.
No I didn't know that Jerry Lewis had been a patient there, I love his movies and always watch for him on the telethon, My birthday falls on Labor Day week-end.
I have a friend who is in Houston right now, she is a heart tx 11 years, they are going to do some valve work, not sure what all that means but we are praying for her.
You are such a nice person and so full of knowledge.

Sharon, was your friend's heart transplant performed at Methodist Hosp? Mine was performed right next door at St Lukes Hosp in January 1991. Both hospitals are wonderful transplant centers with great surgeons and medical personnel. It was a great loss for Methodist Hosp to loose such a famous surgeon as Dr Michael DeBakey. I once met him. It was a wonderful moment for 2 of the most famous pioneers of heart surgery here in the States to make peace after a professional rivalry that lasted more than 40 years. Dr Denton Cooley and Dr Michael DeBakey can be seen here shaking hands shortly before Dr DeBakey's death.

Hi Bob,
I think Amy is at St. Lukes. She should be in surgery sometimes this morning.
My tests on heart before transplant were at the DeBakey Heart Clinic at Methodist.
I was told it was one of the best clinics in the world. I read the plaques at Methodist about Dr. DeBakey. Thank God for that wonderful man and his knowledge.
My husband had a triple bypass 6 yrs. ago at 35, heart disease runs in his family, so reading your posts helps us have lots of hope for a long life.

This is my reason for loving laughter in my life on a daily basis.
Heart health benefits. Laughter could be healthy for your heart. Some research shows that when you laugh, there is an increase in oxygen-rich blood flow in your body, possibly due to the release of endorphins, which create a chemical rush that counters negative feelings and stress. Activities that increase endorphins include a good workout and listening to music you love, and laughter deserves a place on the list of stress busters.

If any of you are interested, I'll tell you the story about this pic below.....
Six months post heart transplant, I decided to run the roads in those big ol' trucks again. I teamed up with a very close friend who owned this Peterbilt tractor and struck out on a 7 state journey out west, traveling almost non-stop for over 4,300 miles, taking turns at driving. We traveled across New Mexico, Arizona and California, stopping off long enough in Barstow Calif to pick up that Chevy SUV seen in the pic on out trailer. We then proceeded up to Sacramento to drop a portion of our load of oil field drill stem pipe. After leaving California, we drove on across Nevada, stopping only to fuel our tractor and participate in a bit of gambling at a Casino for awhile. We then entered the state of Utah, home of the Mormon Tabernacle. This was truly a beautiful site in Salt Lake City.
BTW: I forgot to mention, my friend John, who owns this Peterbilt tractor, was also a heart attack survivor and we were constantly reminding each other to take our heart meds throughout this journey. John had recently been transported in a Life-Flight chopper in Louisiana, due to his recent heart attack.
We then proceeded on to Casper Wyoming to our final destination before returning to Houston. After leaving Wyoming, we headed south on Interstae #25 down through Cheyenne where the Annual Rodeo was in progress at that time.We could see the crowds just off the Interstate hiway. Still heading south down through Denver Colorado, we finally ended up back in the Panhandle of Texas and on to Houston after spending the night with my lovely sister in Ft Worth Texas.

I was leading the "Happy Birthday" song to the very 1st Mayor of Magnolia, Cedric Smith. He is now 90yrs old.
An election was held on September 28, 1968, to determine if the territory known as Town of Magnolia should become an incorporated municipality. There were a total of 123 votes cast, 106 votes for and 17 votes against. The City of Magnolia became an incorporated municipality on October 15, 1968 with Cedric Smith serving as the first Mayor.
This Birthday Celebration happened at a local City Council Meeting. Gene, Kathy, Darlene and myself attended Tues nite.

Attached you will see that pic of my trucking buddy George Mosley, standing below that B 52 bomber at Bergstrom AFB in Austin Texas back in 1962. He helped to maintain these huge bombers with the Strategic Air Command (SAC). George was doing his part to protect America. 
Forty years later....
.....this is me and my dear friend George. He still resides in Austin Texas with his dear wife Beth.

A very memorable happening during my journey of heart problems. I was singing onstage at the Texas Opry Jamboree during Christmas holidays here in Magnolia and experienced a severe heart attack right there behind this microphone in this attached pic.  1986
After being transported to the local hospital, being stabilized and spending several days in the hospital, I rec'd a phone call in my hospital room from Cookie Douglas, the owner of the Texas Opry Jamboree the following Saturday evening during the onstage show. I was greatly surprised when she held the phone up in the air and then I heard the complete audience of over 500 folks at the show, shout out very loudly "Merry Christmas, Bob". I was truly thrilled about this and it truly warmed my ailing heart.
I rec'd double-bypass heart surgery 3 days later.

As for my heart attack onstage at the Texas Opry Jamboree in 1986:
I didn't realize at the moment, I was having a heart attack but later my friends in the audience told me that I was turning pale in my face and my lips were turning blue. I noticed that I was beginning to sweat quite a bit before walking onstage. At least, I did finish singing the song "Wild Side Of Life" before being rushed off stage.
Almost 23yrs later and St Peter keeps on dusting off my "Welcome Mat", praise The Lord.

Janet, this is my very first attempt at writing a book. It takes much time and concentration, as you know by your writings about Joe. You're a born writer yourself.
I have a very close friend who is a published novelist and he will assist me in the publication of my book. His name is Robert Beddoe. Please "Google" him. We were classmates in 1952.

For some reason, I have been craving a good hamburger, lately. So we went to this place that had received good reviews for their burgers, and sure enough - well, you can see for yourself. :-) It was a bacon cheeseburger and it was HUGE! Mmm, delicious!
It's a place in Tomball, Texas, called Mel's Country Cafe. And that is exactly what it is! Good old fashioned food - everything is fresh and delicious. Anyone that lives in the general vicinity of Mel's should definitely check it out!

I just this moment competed sketching this personalized pic for Andrew Wilson's Mum and Dad. I plan to mail it to them very soon with a few small gifts and 2 tee-shirts from our local Constable David Hill, a very dear friend of mine. David once auctioned off a sketch of mine just like this one for $250 at a benefit auction several years ago. I love to get involved in our local civic functions here in Magnolia.

I was born at home right next door to Bobby's home in Rangerville Texas in the Lower Rio Grande Valley in deep south Texas.

Bobby now lives between Houston and San Antonio Texas. After his retirement, Bobby Joe Morrow became a farmer and woodworker.
In October 2006, San Benito High School named their new 11,000 seat stadium Bobby Morrow Stadium. Morrow was on hand to help dedicate the new facility.

One of my ol' High School classmates, Lloyd(Speedy)LaFond now owns a cattle ranch out near Cherokee Texas and specializes in raising longhorn cattle like the one in the attached pic. In fact, this is one of his bulls "Bold Secret".
I taught Speedy how to pick a guitar back in 1956 there in La Feria while we were still in High School. We also played football together on the LFHS team La Feria Lions.
Speedy's Dad owned the "Hudson" car dealership in La Feria back in the early '50s before he changed it to the "Plymouth/Dodge" dealership. Even though Speedy was still in High School back then, he was able to drive a brand spankin' NEW 1955 Plymouth Fury, compliments of his Dad. We always cruised around in that '55 red & white "Fury" on Friday and Saturday nites, checking out the pretty girls.
Speedy just this moment called on the phone and invited me to visit his ranch in Cherokee. Haven't seen him in over 50yrs, although we have been corresponding VIA emails.

Since I have become acquainted with many new friends in England VIA emails and spoken to many of you on the phone, I have researched the difference in our speech. I'm sure it is difficult for you to fully understand my grammar, due to my southern drawl whilst speaking on the phone, with my many imperfections in grammar, such as yaw'l, fixin' to, gettin' out, love ya' and other phrases.
I have discovered that many folks there in England, do not pronounce the letter "T" in their words such as wa'er(water), Wa'erloo(Waterloo), ci'y(city), Sco'land(Scotland), and many more. Perhaps this is known as Cockney English.
Please don't misunderstand me, as we all here in the States love to hear Brits talk.
I'm sitting here watching a rerun of a 1966 movie production "Alphie" starring English film actor Michael Caine, truly enjoying his British accent.

I love reading the history of your wonderful country Scotland among the other surrounding countries over there in your corner of the world.
Yes, I am very familiar with country singer Red Sovine. I saw/listened to him in several live performances years ago. The genre of the spoken word truck driving song dated back to the late '40s, and Starday featured several specialists on its own roster, but it took several albums before Sovine's emotive baritone voice was paired with trucker material. In 1965, Sovine at last found his niche when he recorded "Giddy-Up Go," which, like most of his other trucker hits, was co-written (with Tommy Hill) by Sovine himself. That story of a father-son truck-stop reunion spent six weeks atop the country charts and even crossed over to become a minor pop hit. Subsequent truck driving hits included the ghost story "Phantom 309" and a tearjerker tale of a disabled child's CB-radio relationship with caring truckers, "Teddy Bear." The last-named song became Sovine's biggest hit since "Giddy-Up Go," spending three weeks at the top of the country charts in 1976 and reaching number 40 on the pop charts. Sovine followed up "Teddy Bear" with "Little Joe," a tale of a blinded trucker and his devoted canine friend which became his last big hit. Sovine died in 1980 after suffering a heart attack while driving his van.

I felt compelled to check on a close longtime friend of mine this morning. A.D. Carter now lives in Athens Tx. He is now 80yrs old. (Photo attached) This pic was made 10yrs ago when we met for a short time at the IHOP restaurant in Conroe when A.D. flew into Texas to attend a funeral. He was living in California at that time. I first met A.D. in 1965 when I first moved my family to Houston from Ft Worth. We both worked for East Texas Motor Freight (ETMF) as supervisors on the freight dock on the night shift.
A.D. lost his wife Betty due to cancer many years ago after moving to California. He decided to move back to Texas very recently and remarried. A.D. is one of the closest friends to ever enter my life. I'm so very happy that he's still living and enjoying his life to the fullest.

This is a very true fact but not mentioned too often around Transplant Centers. During the Holiday periods when the highway traffic is very heavy and the possibility of many more fatal auto accidents occurring. Medical personnel have been known to discuss this with patients pre-transplant.
During my time on the active Waiting List, I used to watch the news every night, like, "Any car accidents tonight? Did anyone die on a motorcycle?" It's terrible, but when you're waiting for an organ donor, it's the only way you're gonna' survive.
I know this sounds cold and sadistic but this is just the way it is when your life is on the line, like it or not.
Be perfectly honest with yourself about this subject. It usually takes a loss of one life to spare another's life with a Gift of Life.

It's been almost 20yrs since my heart transplant but there's times when I witness others driving recklessly in cars and on motorcycles, the thought comes to my mind: "There goes a potential organ donor !!".

.....rec'd a surprise phone call today from my heart transplant pal Andy Cook over there in the UK. We had a wonderful conversation.

I did notice that I didn't see many posts of yours, but I didn't know that you were in the hospital.
I was pretty absent too from July to late August. I had Sammy home and then had computer problems that led to a new laptop that took me waaay too long to figure out. I just thought that in my absence I missed your posts.
I am sorry that you had to have another stent, but very glad that you are doing well. You definitely are the Energizer Bunny!!

Vic was a double lung recipient and a wonderful Organ Donation advocate there in UK. He was also a very close friend of mine for several years VIA emails and phone calls from UK to Texas,
He and our transplantbuddies pal Andy rec'd their transplants in the very same hospital and became close friends also

I was once a onstage performer at the Texas Opry Jamboree here in Magnolia. 
It's been more than 20yrs since I performed there last. (See pic at top of this thread) This small building holds more than 1,000 spectators.
Texas Opry in Magnolia far north of Houston was the site of a grand performance by singers who sang in the style of famous country legends. Each of the local singers – capable in their own right – represented legends of music over several decades. Some provided harmonies and backup for others as they sang. Texas Opry seems to have the knack of combining good food, fun, and humor with great music and outstanding performances!
I experienced a heart attack behind the microphone whilst onstage singing back in 1988 before my heart transplant 3 yrs later. This is mentioned in one of my posts above.

Oh yes, I sang several times after my heart transplant. I just simply drifted away from performing in public and took up other interests.
I always wanted to be a famous C/W singer but I ended up being a ol' over-the-road trucker raising a family of 4 children. No regrets, though.

This is where we hold our Safeway drivers' get-togethers to have our annual reunions.

We first began trucking together back in the mid '70s when were we young and handsome and now many years later, it's quite strange to meet your ol' trucking buddies, old gents on walkers, canes, many bald and wearing hearing aides, Love 'em all, though.
Those sweet ladies who worked in our Trucking Office even find the time to come and visit with us, after all of these years, Love them, too.
Approximately 70 of our former drivers have passed away and gone to meet their Creator
RIP dear friends.

This dear ol' man was truly a "Grandpa" lookin' man. This was my Grandfather Hamilton, my Mom's Dad. He was only in his late 60's in this pic.
He passed away when I was very young.
My fondest memories of my childhood in the 1940's was my visits to my Grandpa's farm in the Lower Rio Grande Valley in Texas, shucking corn, feeding the chickens, slopping the hogs, climbing trees and watching my Grandpa remove the harnesses from his team of mules after a hard days' work in the fields.
OMG !!....and those very delicious fried chicken dinners on Sunday.

Happy2Bhere's childhood years:
When I was just a youngster, I had the honor of seeing our President "Ike" drive by in his motorcade in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, returning from his dedication of the Falcon Dam on the Rio Grande further north of us. His bald head was kinda' shining(pinkish), caused by too much sunshine.
This is one of the places President Ike visited while in the Rio Grande Valley:  John H. Shary built his showplace Southern style plantation home overlooking an artificial lake in 1917 (Texas Historical Marker 1964). It became the “Little White House” in 1953 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower was the guest of Governor and Mrs. Shivers during dedication of Falcon Dam.

I truly love anything to do with history. Does your hubby ever watch "Ice Road Truckers" on the History Channel"?

Truckers driving across frozen lakes up north in Alaska & Canada.
As you know, I can certainly relate to this since I was a trucker for 29yrs.

I was just 3 blocks from Methodist Hosp TIRR yesterday, where Congresswoman "Gabby" Gifford is hospitalized at this time. http://www.memorialhermann.org/locations/tirr/

I never indulge in small-talk with any member of my transplant team at SLEH VIA email but I was compelled to forward a golfing clip to one of my docs down there, about various golf courses worldwide. Dr Neil Strickman is an avid golfer, traveling worldwide to golf tournaments.
He had ordered a CT Scan procedure on me just last week during my annual checkup, a followup for my Abdominal Aneurysm repair surgery one year ago.
To my amazement, he sent this reply back to me today VIA email: "Ur ct was ok"
Dr Neil Strickman has been performing my Angiograms for the past 20yrs.

One of my fav doctors at THI St Lukes Hospital rec'd honorable mention in their Monthly Newsletter recently, Dr Neil Strickman.

On May 25th 2010 a team of THI Cadiologists at St Lukes Hospital in Houston Texas including Drs Neil Strickman, Zvonimir, Krajcer, All Martazavl and Arup Acharl, reached a milestone performing their 1,000th carotid artery stent procedure. Carotid artery stenting (CAS) has emerged as a less invasive treatment for stroke-causing blockages in the carotid artery leading to the brain. The first CAS done in Texas was performed at THI in 1998.

Dr Strickman is the one who actually saved my life last year, performing that life-saving surgery on my Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. He has also performed most of my Angiogram Cath Tests for the past 20yrs. He has a great sense of humor and loves golfing and Pro Basketball Games.
I'm just so very proud he's one of my personal Cardiologists.

I have this medical problem, very similar to ol' tyme western personality Kit Carson.
Aortic Aneurysm in the abdomen
Carson died a month later at age 58 on May 23, 1868, in the presence of Dr. Tilton. Dr. Tilton's description of Carson's last days are included in J. S. C. Abbott's Life of Kit Carson. He died from an abdominal aortic aneurysm in the surgeon's quarters in Fort Lyon, Colorado, located east of Las Animas. He was buried in Taos, New Mexico, next to his wife. His headstone inscription reads: "Kit Carson / Died May 23, 1868 / Aged 59 Years

I want to share with you, a wonderful incident in my life. One of my heart pals down here recently rec'd a SynCardia artificial heart. TV interview here: http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news%2Fhealth&id=8316603 Kenny rec'd his 1st heart transplant almost 4yrs ago. I was present at the hospital with his family during that time to offer my personal/spiritual support. His donor heart was rejected, resulting in receiving a artificial heart to bridge the gap(keeping him alive) whilst he awaits another human heart.
It is truly ironic how I first became aware of Kenny and his heart ailment in the very beginning. My wife Darlene and I were eating breakfast at a local restaurant and a couple was sitting at a table nearby. (Strangers to me) The lady overheard me discussing my own heart transplant. She walked over to our table, introduced herself as Sandy Mixon. She invited me to join them at their table She instantly broke down and started crying, explaining to me, her 34yr old son Kenny was in dire need of a heart transplant. After my 1st time meeting with a Magnolia Jr High student at a Fund Raising Benefit several yrs ago, I became acquainted with 14yr old Shawn Middleton and his family. Shawn was in dire need of a heart transplant. To the best of my ability, I began to offer my personal/spiritual support to this young man.
I rec'd a phone call from Shawn's Mom Brenda one morning and whilst crying, she explained to me, Shawn had refused to go into the hospital after recieving that important phone call, that a heart donor had been located for him. I can truly understand Shawn's fear at that very moment. This "Gift of Life" was passed on down to the next recipient on the Waiting List but Shawn remained to be on the active list for transplant.
I spoke with Shawn several times afterward and even made a promise to him, I would be present at the hospital during his heart transplant after he rec'd that next phone call from his Transplant Coordinator. A very short time later, he rec'd that phone call and we all rushed to St Lukes Hospital. Shawn's heart transplant was a total success. I'm sure you will truly love the remainder of this story.
I visited with Shawn several days after he was released from ICU. Shortly after I walked into his room with my wife Darlene, we could see Shawn in his bed with his Mom Brenda speaking with him. The very moment he saw me, he gently pulled back the top sheeet cover on his bed, exposing his newly acquired chest scar. He then shouted lightly "Look here, Bob !!". I replied with a big wide smile and said "Welcome to the Heart Transplant Club, son."
Shawn is still doing just fine, even recently graduated High School.

My dear friend Tony Huesman was once the longest living heart transplant recipient in the world prior to his death in August 2009.
He died of complications from cancer, said his wife, Carol Huesman. He was 51. "His heart held up to the end," she said.
At age 16, Tony Huesman was diagnosed with viral cardiomyopathy, a degenerative heart disease. By the time he was 20, Tony's heart had worn out. On August 30, 1978, Tony received a heart transplant operation at Stanford University Medical Center.
Since then, Tony has returned to Dayton, Ohio where he founded the Huesman Heart Foundation and has raised thousands of dollars for heart healthy educational programs in Dayton area schools.
RIP dear Tony 
I spoke to Tony on the phone a few times before his death in 2009 and this truly warmed my heart.
