I have had an upset stomach on and off again for about two weeks now. I go back to the GI doc December 12. In the mean time though I would like to take an over the counter med. What do you guys take and are there any restrictions imposed by your tx team?

Hockey, My understanding of an upset stomach is pains, maybe heartburn. Is this what you mean? if it is pain then it may be caused by a number of things ranging from gastritis to reflux to ulcer. An over the counter drug used for stomach acid, also ulcers and gastritis is omeprazole though a doc once told me that it affects the immuno drug levels, can't remember if up or down. So most docs prescribe it's newer version esomeprazole (nexium). Though you ought to check first with your GI doc before taking any because it may not be what you need therefore useless. Has your GI doc done any tests like testing for blood in your stool or doing an endoscopy?

Omeprazole has been changed from a prescription drug to an over the counter drug and is rather expensive that way. My transplant doc changed me to pantoprazole which is a prescription drug and thus is less expensive to me and does the same as omeprazole (anti ulcer med). Then you can choose between pant. and esome. with your docs approval. |
