Posted by Hostess Rise on February 9, 2013 at 12:56pm

Received this very sad news today from TRIO newsletter (Transplant Recipients International Organization) http://www.trioweb.org

JT will be missed by so many! He was the first transplant buddy member that I remember chatting with by email. Rest in Peace J.T.
James Thomas ("J.T.") Rhodes (1948 - 2013)

J.T. (James Thomas) Rhodes (1948 to 2013 will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He had a big spirit, filled with the joy of life and compassion for his fellow organ transplant recipients.

A CPA in private practice, J.T. founded and served as President of the local NE Florida Transplant Recipients International Organization (TRIO) and later as President of TRIO International. He supported his beloved Florida Gator sports teams and children at Asland House. JT was a member of the Florida Donate Life committee and was a JCI Senator.

JT competed in World and US transplant games starting in 1995 at the World Games in Manchester, England. He has also competed in the Australian National transplant games where he won medals as well as winning several at the US games. He was selected as the Elite Athlete from Florida to represent Team USA in Thailand in 2007. In 1997, JT rode his bicycle from Atlanta, Ga. to Jacksonville and then to Gainesville, FL. As he rode over 450 miles in 5 days, he promoted organ donation at various events during the ride.

He was predeceased by his parents, Francis Joseph and Mary Catherine Rhodes and his beloved dog, Rosie. He is survived by his five sisters: Mary Rhodes, Patricia Robinson, Jeanne Prince, Louise Wright, and Catherine Kasriel, 12 nieces and nephews, and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.

A public celebration of his life will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at noon. There will be a private interment later. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to TRIO at 2100 M St.NW, #170-353, Washington, DC 20037-1233.
