I'm having weird shoulder and arm pain from constantly sleeping on my sides. Sometimes I also have a stiff neck or sore, tight muscles from the position I sleep in as well. Any good suggestions to help alleviate some of this pain? I have a contour foam pillow, a body pillow, and a brand new mattress with a contour foam pillow top. It doesn't get any cozier than this but my shoulders take a beating from my sleep positions. I can't sleep on my stomach because of herniated discs in my lower spine and back sleeping does not come easily to me. I find it uncomfortable. This morning I feel like crap. Before I have to speak to a doctor about it, I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions for me? I know I am putting pressure on the rotator cuffs in my shoulders. OUCH!!

Trisha,
I wish I could remember the name of it, but I saw a pillow on a TV program a while back that was invented by a chiropractor. It was specifically designed for side sleepers. It was the foam type pillow, but it had a half-moon cut out on the edge of it. That way, it supported your head and neck, but your shoulder was free and not pressing on the pillow material.
You might try googling to see if you can find something similar. It sounded like it would work pretty good.

Hi Trisha

Be careful with any new foam pillows as they are made with glues that might have an odor and since you have allergies, you could be allergic to one of these pillows which might make your body feel irritable and your sleeping patterns are altered due to the stress. I would sedate triple warmer meridian by holding your points on page 123 in Energy Medicine. Drink more water and take your calcium and magnesium supplements.

I bought my pillow at my chiro office and it is a water pillow. You will fill up the pillow with your desired level of water. It has the regular pillow foam and a place for the water.

Can you massage your own shoulders? I place the small yoga balls under my neck, shoulders for a few minutes and roll gently from side to side.

If you are not sleeping well, any pain you have will just feel more aggravated.

I sleep on my back and place a pillow under my knees.
