Does anyone know of some good children's books that help to explain organ donation?
I have a 5 year old daughter, we recently lost her older sister, my daughter Emily, who became a heart donor.
Most of the books I have found online deal with the transplant recipient, which is wonderful and I do plan on reading those to her, but I am hoping to find something that has more on the 'donor family' side of the story. I have tried to be as straightforward as I can be with her, but this is difficult and I could use some good ideas.
Thank you!

Hi Samantha,

Welcome to our site. I am so sorry for the loss of your daughter Emily. How generous you were in donating her heart. I am a heart-liver recipient and I would not be here today if it was not for the selfless acts of wonderful people like yourself. Thank you so much.

You will find many caring people here to help you. We have several wonderful donor moms as well.

There is a very nice gentleman on the site who goes by the name of Ol'Bob who knows of an author who has written children's books on organ donation. I am sure he will respond to your post very soon.

All the best to you in this time of sorrow.

Hugs, Meagan

Hi Samantha,

Thanks to my dear friend Meagan for alerting me to your request for children's books about organ transplants, one of my heart pals Tony Huesman recently passed away in Akron Ohio. He was 31yrs post heart transplant and had written several of these books. You can possibly locate these books through this webpage. http://www.huesmanheart.org/

Tony was kind enough to send a few of these books to me through the Postal Service.

Hope this helps you, lit'l lady. I'm so very sorry to hear about the loss of you beloved child.

Dear Samantha

Not sure if this idea suits you at this time. Perhaps you would like to create your own children's book about organ donation? Children are so creative and this might help your daughter understand when she is able to express her thoughts and feelings. Emily's story would help many other families help their younger children.

I would love to help you publicize your children's book on this site.

HUGS and lots of LOVE to you!
