I just got a Juice extractor for Xmas (yes, I asked for it). I don't expect much as far as a yummy treat, but I wanted it for the health reasons. I was wondering if there are any certain types veggies I should take for my liver? I'm just on the transplant list. Or as long as it's raw veggies, it's all good? And also, is there any certain ones I should avoid? Also, if anyone else has one, I'm open to suggestions of any half way good tasting juices I can make. Thanks.

Hi Bob, I've read that beets and parsley are good for the liver. Really anything green is good. Adding apples can make veggie juices more palatable. Celery, cucumber and sunflower sprouts (protein) make a good juice that can be flavored with garlic or ginger. Fruits although yummy are high in sugar which makes the liver work harder. I was juicing quite a bit least summer and like anything else, moderation is key. I ended up having to be tapped because I taking in more liquid than my body could process. I am pre-transplant, so it may be different if you are post-transplant.

You also should avoid adding anything to the juices such as energizers or immune boosters. Natural supplements have been known to conflict with immune suppressants.

Also avoid grapefruit and pomegranite as this interacts with tx medications.
