I like the chart that Dr. Mercola has on this page regarding the daily intake of fructose.
http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/05/02/is-sugar-toxic.aspx

For many years avoided white sugar although I do consume a high carb diet which I am working on by cutting back. Check out the chart and let me know what you think and please discuss what works for you.

Thanks Rise,
I just read the New York times article on sugar toxicity from Dr mercola's site. What a great article. I have been avoiding sugar after hearing about the inflammatory effects a few years ago. I have been totally amazed at how much sugar is in some foods that many people eat thinking they are healthy. Fruit flavored yogurt comes to mind as that was one of the first I became aware of. I started reading the label of everything I ate when I first got listed as the nutritionist want me to double my intake of protein. I also started to notice how much sugar was in every thing. After transplant I have found my self eating more sugar. I seem to have gravitated to comfort food desserts. So I will be stopping them soon as my mind gets back to more rational behavior! I also notice that after not eating much sugar or salt that when you go back to them everything is sickening sweet or overly salty. Your body adjusts to what you feed it.
Thanks for the the reminder!

With love and much gratitude to everyone on transplant buddies thank you all for sharing.

Hi Starla

We all need to be reminded. Glad that you like Dr. Mercola

Just yesterday, I ate too much popcorn and my tummy is not liking me today.

We all need to be reminded every now and then.

It might be the popcorn itself. My wife cannot eat popcorn, either. I am sorry, but from what I have seen, Dr. Mercola does not impress me at all. Just personal opinion.

A few years ago I went on a no sugar diet. It was amazing how great I felt once I made it through the detox phase. I was shocked that when I walked into the grocery store how I could smell the sugar everywhere. Sugar is so bad for us, but so hard to resist. I do like splenda as a nice alternative! Even then, it is so hard to eliminate sugar out of everything!

Although this is titled Sugar The Bitter Truth I don't see a link to Dr Robert Lustig's video of the same name. Highly recommended. It convinced me that sugar is not just empty calories, it is, as Dr. Lustig says, a chronic toxin.
