As many of you know, I use whey protein powder as a part of my post workout regimen. I also post to another board where the emphasis is on body building and strength training (yes, much to my surprise, there is a difference). In any case, what I have been able to glean from some of the posts I have seen and what I have read in magazines, is that there is a difference in type of whey protein (and I am assuming soy protein). The difference is in the pureness of the protein you get in a jug of whey protein. There are a couple of types--whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate. The concentrate is a mixture of whey proteins and is not as pure as the whey isolate. I have been using a whey product which is a combination of the two types of protein. When I need to purchase a whey product next time, I plan on switching to one that is a protein isolate only. If there is any recognizable difference, I will let you know.

Very interesting Cisco! I wish you the very best. Does your creatinine raise when you take in more protein?

Hi Cisco. This caught me at a time when I am looking at whey protein powders. I have been using whey protein concentrate from Bob's Red Mill. What got me investigating was a video and promotion this week from Mercola. He is pushing his own branded products, which are whey protein concentrate, and he compares them to whey protein isolate, and makes a number of arguments for why the concentrate should be preferred. I often like what Mercola has to say, but I become a little skeptical when it leads to him recommending one of his products, especially when his whey protein is quite expensive. If you are interested, you can probably find what he has to say on his website. I will be interested in what you decide.

I can all ready tell you that I will not go to his website, I am not interested in what he has to say, especially since he is promoting his products. Yes, whey concentrate is expensive, the isolate is more expensive, but the quality is much better. Rise, they have never said anything about my blood draws, and they watch it pretty close.

This just in.....I found a protein powder that is a little more expensive, but not that much....about a dollar for 5 pounds. It was like $45.00 for 5 pounds. The company is Dymatize. It is whey protein isolate and I have heard comments that it tastes good, too. We will see. Website I got it from was vitacost.com.

The Dymatize I had gotten in my previous post was not what I thought it was, and since then, I have ordered Dymatize Iso-100. It is a little over $60.00 for 5 pounds. Yes, I know it is more expensive, but their products taste good, and this is protein isolate only, so it gets into the bloodstream a little quicker and it is a purer form of protein.

I finally got my protein supplement. I like both of the Dymatize products--both the "Elite" and the "Iso-100" taste good. I will let you know about my results once I have had a chance to use this new product for awhile.

Cisco- do you run the products that you take by your doctor? Which companies make the best protein supplements? What is the difference in your opinion comparing a protein supplement to a high protein meal?

I found this article on WebMD http://www.webmd.com/diet/protein-shakes I will be shopping around for an established brand. I am leary of metal canned supplements because of the possible BPA esposure.
