I exercise quite a bit and I was just curious, for those of you who exercise regularly, what supplements do you use?

dePaola, I never did get an answer to the question I asked you about the Coq10. What is it's purpose?

So, CoQ10 has been weakly studied and results have not been conclusive. Most of the research readily searchable is from around 2008, newer studies have been done and are being done that are better designed and well managed. Those studies while not complete are showing more of a benefit then original studies, enough so that I've been convinced to give it a go. My activity level includes trail running, mountain biking, crossfit, sports specific speed and weight training. I also run several half-marathons each year and compete in ultra-treks, and 24+ hour adventure races. coenzyme Q10, also known as ubiquinone, is a lipid with vitamin-like characteristics. Coenzyme Q10 is found in the mitochondria -- cellular power plants that generate most of your cell's supply of ATP, or energy -- of all your tissues, especially your heart and skeletal muscles. Coenzyme Q10 is also an antioxidant, which means that it reduces oxidative damage in your body caused by free radicals. The President's Council states that coenzyme Q10 has been used to treat cardiovascular disease because it boosts oxygen uptake in the mitochondria of your heart. It is believed that increased oxygen consumption and usage in your heart and skeletal muscles could enhance your aerobic endurance performance. |

Just wanted to update Cisco and anyone that is reading that I bought (finally) Dr. Mercola's whey protein powder. I did not receive it yet. My doctors said it was ok for me to try. I sent them the ingredients which only contained two. Grass fed cows peaked my interest. I was recently told by my dentist and her assistant that to go slowly with taking protein whey powders because they can increase gas within the body aka bodybuilding farts LOL or something like that. Just looked this up and it seems that protein can cause gas. I am not too worried and if this happens I can always back off. My kidney numbers are very healthy and it is time for me to try a new protein supplement. The hemp protein powder is good but I am not sure if it is doing anything for weight gain. I need to gain some weight- Just lost some due to missing meals at various dental office visits (sitting in the chair for hours). I have had trouble with whey protein in the past- What peaked my interest about Dr. Mercola's brand was the ingredients. I bought the original flavor which is also has the most protein and natural form of carbs. I know some of you do not like Dr. Mercola but I do. We are all entitled to our own opinions. I say good for him for trying to introduce healthy products.

If anyone is interested to read which protein supplement that I bought click on the below page-scroll to the bottom and click on original. Enlarge the page to view ingredients. I have never seen a protein supplement with only two ingredients. http://proteinpowder.mercola.com/Miracle-Whey-Protein.html

Rise, I have to say with as much fiber as I get, protein does not worry me. (I get 60-90 grams of fiber a day, and if that does not cause gas, a little protein won't hurt) I guess by all purposes, I should be a walking gas bomb, but I am not.

I used to use that in the double chocolate. It does not, however, mix very well, so I went to Daymatize Iso 100. It is whey isolate instead of whey concentrate.

I don't have a mixing issue but my shake typically consists of the following: 1 cup plain full fat Greek Yogurt 1 tablespoon ground flax 1 tablespoon wheat germ 1 scoop Protein Powder 1 cup blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries (mixed) handfull almonds 1 cup milk I need to blend the heck out of this obviously but it tastes so good and is packed with nutrients |

Just curious How much protein in miligrams do you all consume at at a time. I decided to hold off on the protein powder at this time even though my doctor said it was ok.

That should be grams, Rise. It would be 175 to a little over 200.

I was told I could have protein at any meal, but not to exceed 50 grams at any given time. In servings of protein powder and since I want to have something besides powder, I use one and a half scoops, which is 36 grams of protein and a gram of carbohydrate. But then I also have a banana, some granola and a serving of dried tart cherries. (We are talking post workout meal only)
