I searched the forum and couldn't believe this was not posted before. This girl is pretty amazing.
At the age of 19, she contracted Neisseria meningitis, a form of bacterial meningitis. Due to the disease, which affected her circulatory system, both of her legs had to be amputated below the knee and her spleen and a kidney had to be removed. Two years later, she received a kidney transplant from her father.
She had such a small chance of survival and now has accomplished so much.
If you have time, check out her website for the detailed story www.amypurdy.com
I found it pretty amazing.

I remember reading an article about her! Can't remember where - for some reason I am thinking it was Muscle & Fitness Hers, but not really sure. You are right - absolutely amazing story. I couldn't believe the determination she had to overcome the obstacles she faced. Thanks for posting, Mashka, and thanks for the website info!

Amy wrote to me many years ago before her kidney transplant and is a member here but she has not visited us in a long time. I can now see why-she is very busy living life.
