Bob, I always thought the most emotional thing that I would attend were the National Donor Family Recognition Ceremonies.....they are way up there still...but the quilt pinnings at the games (or anytime) are even more so. They can bring you to tear....make you laugh....all within a single moment. Just to sit and hear the stories of all of the patches that are pinned are actually amazing. I love this event...we do it at our local ceremonies also, and then I have the honor of being about the quilt some of the quilts. They are beautiful!!!

Janet, it's not a Donor Quilt, but I have a home-made quilt that my Mother made many years ago. This quilt is very special to me because my Mom passed away in 1992. I remember seeing her and some of her dear friends, sitting around a set of those ol' tyme quilting frames, chattering away as they worked on their quilts. She would sometimes allow me to tie those lit'l yarn strings on the quilts. My oldest sister still has those ol' quilting frames that are probably over 75yrs old. God did a wonderful service when He created "Memories". Ol' Bob

Bob....what a beautiful story...I love them so much. My grandmother had one of those old quilt frames also....and made many many quilts on it for family and friends. I actually got one of them when my mother passed away this past summer....Grandma had made one for each of her children or their spouses, with the 'state birds' on some, and the 'state flowers' on others....My mother left the one she had to me...and I will cherish it forever. AND my mother-in-law also made a quilt for me many years ago, called a Cathedral Quilt, it was to use up all of your little scraps from other projects...so there are pieces of clothing that I made for my children.....other children in the family, and clothing my mom in law had made......it is a real treasure to me....I cherish both of them.....AND THE FRAME....I have it too. It is what I use for making the donor family quilts that I do.....it is as if my grandma is sitting there with me while I stitch...it has not only restored some old memories, but we have made new memories on it too. I am not even going to guess how old the frame is...but it is pretty old....I have had it for almost 30 years....LOL....thank you so much for sharing your memories of you mom.....just beautiful.

This is very similar to my Mom's quilting frames except for most of the time her frames were hung from the ceiling in the room or sometimes off the outdoor porch ceiling during nice weather.. Long wooden boards with many holes. This pic certainly reminds me of my Mom and her friends. Ol' Bob

Bob, yes, that is very similar to grandma's frame also, except I believe grandma's was hand made....it is much more rustic than this one...but the same idea. And I love it...Grandma would be glad that it is still being used, and she certainly would be proud that so many donor quilts have been made on it in memory of so many donors.
