I rec'd this note from Janet's hubby Dave Thurs morn. Dave has requested that I pass this info on to her dear friends on this site.

"Janet got sick on Sunday and ended up in the hospital today 3-11-09. Her doc. said it was a bad gallbladder and she is scheduled for surgery tomorrow."

Please place her on your prayer lists. Thank you.

Will update later....

I'm sure sorry to hear that. But am glad it's just a gall bladder. I went thru that in '99....the attacks are just awful....but the surgery, not so bad. I hope hers goes as well. I'll be thinking of her.....

Thanks for letting us know.

Kristen, this could possibly be a bit more serious. Janet recently had invasive surgery to assist her in loosing weight. I don't think she would mind me telling you'all this.

Get well very soon, dear Janet.

Hello everybody......you know I don't know what to say or do first...
YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST~~~I did receive all of the messages that Dave could find on the computer, he is not very good at all of this stuff, so reading Bob's messages were about the extent of his computer expertese. But anyway...it was not a good week. On Wednesday I spent more time at doctor offices/imagining centers/ etc/etc/ etc.....I was probably beginning to feel like you guys do when you are listed. So, I won't complain about any of that, they did the best they could with me. My doctor/surgeon was the same doctor that did my gastric bypass surgery back in October, he is the best...so, I felt he was the best choice to call concerning my tummy area. Since he knew what he could and couldn't do. I guess I didn't realize that certain things are out of the question after a g.bypass.....but I have learned alot, and I have also learned that you need to be your own best advocate. I can't tell you how many times they gave me things that I knew I was NOT supposed to have. I was constantly sending my 'food' (if you can call clear liquids food)...back to get something that I was allowed to eat. They were forever bringing me things with sugar in them....if I eat any sugar I am horribly sick from it...you would think the nurses would know that by now?? NOT. But I educated a few and gave up on the rest of them. Needless to say eating at the hospital was not something I wanted to do for any amount of time.

But anyway, I was in a LOT of pain for a few days and then each evening I would spike a fever, sometime much higher than others, but bad enough that the third day it occured to me that there might be something wrong with me. After all of the tests, etc. they still could not pin point the problem, but decided that the gall bladder was probably the 'bad guy', so they put me on the waiting list of surgery the next day. I was glad it was early in the day as opposed to late....I am not sure how all of you can wait so patiently for so long. After a very long surgery/recovery period about 5 hours or so, I woke up and the doc told me they were doing a 2 for 1 sale (I wish LOL) and they decided that both the gall bladder and the appendix were inflamed and not in very good shape that they might as well take them both out.

Then it took forever for my body to 'adjust'....I kept spiking the fevers and the pain was worse than my stomach bypass last year, and it wasn't letting up at all. So, I ended up staying until Saturday, they actually at one point on Thursday told me that I would be able to go home after the surgery that day...THAT WAS FUNNY.........So after we got the pain under control and the fever under 100, they sprung me out. And I didn't look back, just in case they changed their minds.

So, that is all the excitement in my neck of the woods this week. I have said for years now that all I want is a "boring life"......WHY CANT I HAVE THAT???? If any of you know the answer to this one, please let me know. So, that is it....all in a nutshell. I go for my post op next Tuesday and hopefully later this week I can drive into the office to bug everyone there, you know what they say, "When the cats away, the mice will play" and I just have to keep an eye on all of the 'mice' I have there....and one turned into a RAT before the first day was up. So, I guess I get to deal with him yet too.....Love to you all, and THANK YOU again for being so thoughtful, offering your thoughts and prayers for me and my family....this is why I love you guys so much!!!!
Hugs, Janet

Dear Janet,

Sorry about your discomfort over the past week or so and the need for surgery, but glad to see you back. I hope your recovery time will be short and that you are feeling much better very soon.

And I know what you mean by "boring life." In our home we call it "normal" and we oh so look forward to normal.

You take care and I hope you have a great day.

As we all discuss a "Boring Life", have any of you ever read my own personal analogy of "Life Compared To A Burning Fire"? I composed this early one morning when I was just 8yrs post heart transplant. This can be seen on many websites.

*********************
One's life, from beginning to end, is like a warm blaze in a fireplace from start to finish. Whenever a few logs are set ablaze, they seem to have a small gradual burn. When I see this, I am reminded of an infant crawling, then learning to walk alone.

The flames seem to get bigger and burn more briskly. This again reminds me of a youngster growing and experiencing life as it is, gaining knowledge and growing to adulthood.

At its peak, the logs in the fireplace seem to emerge into a roaring flame. This brings to mind the fast-paced part of life – the years when marriage, raising children, and working to keep life on track, takes up all of one's time. There never seem to be enough hours in the day. Life in this period is fully roaring, with many responsibilities. But, like the fire in the fireplace, life can be very warm and satisfying, if one chooses to let it.

Soon, the fireplace has only red hot coals, reminding me of retirement years. For extra excitement and a bit more happiness, one only needs to stir the red-orange coals for a little flame.

When the coals turn grey and cool, that means to me that we've gone to Heaven to meet our Creator. Our fire has burned out in this life.

One more thought comes to me, though. When I received a heart transplant eighteen years ago, it was as if God simply and with love . . . threw another log on my fire . .

********************* .

I changed the amount of years post transplant to bring it up to date.

Please take the time to compare this to the ups & downs in your own life.

Ol' Bob

P.S. I sincerely hope you like this.

Janet:

My goodness! I am so sorry that you had to go through all that. I am glad they found the problem, but it sure wasn't an easy fix. Maybe after you recover you will feel great and start to find that "boring" life you are looking for. Right?!?! You don't really want a boring life - that would be boring!! Hee! Hee! Seriously, I know what you mean. You just want things to settle down so that maybe you could just live a few moments without a crisis. I feel that way in my own life too. I'd like to get off that Merry Go Round. When you figure out how to do it, will you let us know! :-)

I am just glad that you are home and feeling better. Take very good care of yourself. You will be back to your old self in no time.

God Bless!

Janet,

What a tough time you have had. I'm so sorry. It sounds like the worst of it is behind you. I know this is your very busy season at work but don't push yourself too hard. Sorry about the "rat" at work unfortunately most offices have them.

Take care of you first work is always there.

I'm glad to hear you are home and improving. Take good care. I'll be praying for you.

Kristen and CJ...thank you so much for your concern....and for asking how I am doing. I am doing much better. My first week back to work, and I am taking tomorrow off. Today was insane, so I am glad that I have a day off to rest. My belly is healing very well, but possibly have developed a hernia through it all....so, I go back to the doc in a couple of weeks and he will check it out then, and see if it is just 'excessive swelling' or a hernia...yippie....just can't wait!! Again, thank you everyone for all of the thoughts and prayers you have sent my way...I appreciate them more than you know....
