This is a partial re-post from my TransplantBuddies blog .......... ********************************************************************** Has anyone been to the National Donor Memorial in Richmond Va? It's a place that's on my list to visit in the not to distant future .......... An excerpt from their web site ........ http://www.donormemorial.org/ The Wall of Tears A family's loss marks the beginning of the journey. At the memorial entrance, water flowing over the words, "friend, wife, son, daughter, mother, sister, husband, brother, father," symbolizes tears shed by donor families.

This is on my list of places to visit also. I will be going to DC next summer for The Compassionate Friends Conference, if I don't get to see it before that, I will certainly make sure I see it then...

Hey Dap!!! Yes -- I was fortunate to go to the Donor Memorial shortly before they finished it... I was on the Patient Affairs Committee for UNOS and for one of our meetings, they held it at UNOS in Richmond, and we were given a tour of the Donor Memorial... I have my tribute posted on their online memorial -- and I'm also fortunate in that they chose our picture for one of the random shots they use in the introductory front page for the memorial... I started my tribute post about Kari several years ago, and never quite finished it -- but it's enough to understand where I'm coming from... Whether you know your donor or not, it's a beautiful place to write a little memorial to them... Another neat thing -- this coming New Year's Donate Life Float is based on the Donor Memorial... The "Wall of Names" encircles much of the float -- the riders are sitting in front of the Wall of Names... I believe that the "Wall of Tears" in at or near the Family Circle Garden... It's a beautiful, peaceful memorial -- if you get the chance to go, you should not pass it up -- particulaly we who have been part of this community -- recipients, recipient's families, donor families, living donors -- it can be a very emotional experience... And the float this year is incredible, with it's basis on the Donor Memorial and the phoenix rising from the ashes and flames -- and in the flames, there are images of 77 donors... It will be a beautiful tribute again... Love, Steve

Wow....I had never heard of this Donor Memorial before! Thank you so much for bringing it to my attention. I would love to go there one day. I need to research the "phoenix rising from the ashes"....that is the 3rd time in a week that has come up and I don't know what it's about. Is it from the Bible? I received a powerful thank you card from our nephew that talked about our strength in continuing to "go on" after losing such a precious daughter....and he mentioned it then, too. xo

DAP also has a link on his post -- please note that anyone can create a tribute -- a recipient, donor family member, or friend -- you can write a little about the person, they also guide you through the process with questions and such... And you can upload a picture if you have one... If you don't know a name at this time, you can create an anonymous entry... Love, Steve
