Contact your tx doctor and let him(her) know what's shakin'. They may be able to keep you from having to use generic or at least they will know. When you first start it, they have to make sure to check your blood more often because it may be at a different trench level. (They want to keep these constant)

Your transplant team may be able to get Prograf authorized for you, as there is a lack of bioequivalence data for generic Tacro. If not possible, does your plan outright deny the Prograf claim or do they reimburse for the generic and make you pay the difference for brand? If this is the case, we may be able to help offset some of the cost of the brand for you. Feel free to contact me.

I am also in the same position right now. My BCBS will not pay for brand. Would like to hear peoples experience with generic Prograf.

Thanks.

Daughter had to switch to generic. Right now there is only one company making generic so once you have your level where it needs to be with it we have not had any problem. For my daughter we are on the same dose but she has to make sure that she takes it on a empty stomach ( no food 2 hrs before or 1 hours after taking med.) Before she was taking it with it with meals and level was ok. With the generic, the level was to low if we take with food.

My doctor switched me back to name brand. I was on the generic for about 4 months and the side effects seemed worse (mainly tremors).
