Is anyone taking the monthly inhaled Pantamidine, instead of Bactrim or Mepron as a anti bacterial medication. I was on Bactrim but my CR levels were too high and my white blood count too low. I was changed to Mepron but do not like it. I only know of one person taking the inhaled monthly pantamidine. Let me know if you are and how long you have used it. Many Thanks!!}}}

I was given the Pantamidine treatment once in the hospital and once a month later, after that they switched me to Bactrim for about 6 months. Now I am on nothing. The pantamidine is expensive and it made me gag because it seemed so thick. Good luck! I hope everything clears up soon!

Sorry, I just noticed this post. I was on pentamidine for close to a year (I think - it was a long time ago). I hated the taste and coughed a bit at the beginning of each treatment, but it seemed to work. I didn't have any significant infections my first year. Cora

My doctor is switching me from Bactrim to Mepron (If my insurance will cover it. We're still waiting on that decision). What did you not like about the Mepron? Just wondering what to expect. Steve

I took the monthly Pentamidine treatments for one year post transplant. I am allergic to Bactrim and Dapsone which were my transplant center's options. It was not totally unpleasant, but was very glad to be done with them after 12 treatments. I coughed until they gave me the albuterol before the Pentamidine. My transplant center gave me the first treatment and gave the albuterol first. Then I went to a local hospital and they gave it in the other order until I asked them to change. Never coughed during or after a treatment after that.

Joe, I'd forgotten about the albuterol. I took that too, but it didn't completely get rid of the cough. It was just for a few minutes at the beginning, then I was fine. Cora
