Wil, Welcome! Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. My suggestion is you should inform your transplant team, this is always the first thing you should do, especially considering your transplant has been so recent. Pls. call them and explain to them what you are feeling. I need to get something clear. When you mentioned that you felt the best in years was this right after surgery and now you feel like crap. Does this mean that you felt good then things changed ? If so, how long did you feel good before things changed? Another question is, how are your labs, ie. creatinine, cbc, urinalysis, etc and what meds are you on?. Also, do you have a temperature or any type? Because you are so early on, there are a lot of different things that can be happening. It could be the one or a few of the meds, it could be something from the surgery, it could be an infection. But at this point, we need to know more before we can say anything. It is cartainly possible that it is one of the meds considering you are on high doses at this stage, but it would be good to have your docs know in order that they can make sure that it isn't anything else. Also, they could probably alleviate the issues. Sorry I have more questions than answers, but I can't really help without more details.

Hi, I think you should consult your transplant team, you mentioned you felt great @ first after transplant now after 4 weeks you feel very bad. Our you still having regular check-ups with kidney transplant team? you need to let them know what is going on, After my kidney transplant on July 5, 2010 @ UCLA i saw the transplant team regularly 3 x a week for first 3 months to get my medications dialed in. Please make sure you follow all instructions your kidney doctors tell you to do regarding your medications, you want to take care of that kidney & your new health, please take care, hope every thing works out well. |

With the symptoms that you mention, you should consult your transplant team as soon as possible for further evaluation of the sign and symptoms you experience right now. |

My hubby is going through something similar - transplanted 5 months ago. At first part of the "great" feeling is the elation of finally getting that phone call, and no more dialysis. Looking forward to life again. After a couple of months of "back to normal" he did start having some serious med issues, tremors, insomnia, stomach ache, loss of appetite. He was really upset and afraid this was the "new normal" for the rest of his life. Through these forums we heard from many folks saying this is normal as your body adjusts to all these drugs and constant tweaking is necessary to balance your ability to 'live happy' with the necessary drugs. He goes to see the doc for a tweaking on Tuesday, we are hoping for the best after that visit. Keep the faith, we are! |

Duffer, have they started to taper any of his medications? I had tremors from prograf, but eventually, they went away. Prednisone may also cause some problems. Be patient. Wil, I can say the same for you, but you need to let your tx team know what is up! Good luck to both of you!

As recommended, call your transplant team and advise them......more than likely you are feelings the effects of the high dosage of drugs.....as they are fat soluble, they build up in fat rather than just being passed out as in the early period post transplant so you are mostly likely feeling the effects of the high dosage plus residual. Your description of symptoms is what I experienced.....but nonetheless advise our team and they can review and maybe modify some of the meds.....at some point they will modify dosages and continue to do so periodically until they achieve a maintenance dose that suits your transplant's continued viability..... FYI....when I first got home from the transplant, i had to place towels under me when i slept to protect the bed from the night sweats as fluid poured out of my pores. I even broke out in a furious sweat when I ate supper - Cellcept was the culprit for me.
