I post tom this section more than most folks and I would like to see some more posting here. I noticed that some of us have goals to lose weight. How are you going about it? Cutting foods out of your diet is a good start, but if you can do some kind of physical activity in addition, that makes weight loss that much easier. Come on,. folks!!

Hi Cisco! You have been so faithful in posting to this section and I know all of us appreciate it. I tend to just read your posts and not post back because for so long I really couldn't exercise like you were. I just did my basic sit on the floor exercises to keep my muscles moving prior to transplant. Now that I have my new lungs, I am able to exercise and I love it!! I just haven't posted about it yet. I am about 3 1/2 months post transplant and I am still being told to watch how much I lift - no more than 5 lbs. That's okay because I am not really strong enough to lift much more. I have always been a big believer in cross training and interval training. I have a huge library of exercise videos/DVD's that include: muscle training, kick boxing, low impact aerobics, step aerobics, ballet, Pilates, resistance band, and interval training. I am finally back to working out 4-5 times per week. I do light weight workouts and then walk on the treadmill 2-3 times a week and then I do one of my easier workout DVD's on the opposite days. I am up to walking 3.3 miles per hour on the treadmill. I just walked 1.25 miles today. I get so excited that I am no longer short of breath when exercising. It feels sooooo good!! I usually workout about an hour. I have seen great results. I am able to do just about anything I want now. I can run up our stairs now and I can keep up with my husband when we go shopping. I even jumped up and down with Sammy when we had that 67 degree day last week. It is so awesome to have some strength back. I still need to work more. I figured it would take me all year to get back to where I was before I got sick - maybe longer. I enjoy my time working out. It makes me feel much better about myself and my body. I also want to be able to play and ride my bike this summer with Sammy. Oh - and the biggest motivator is that we are going to Disney World in June and I need the stamina to walk around all day long!!! I will try and post my milestones. I truly believe that exercise is one of the keys to a healthy life. You are such an inspiration and role model for all of us. You look fantastic! Slim, trim, and strong. Thank you for not giving up on this section. It is really important. God Bless!

Thank you. There are some others who do post here. I just wish that I could get others to post here too, if for no other reason than the fact that they would held to be accountable for whatever exercise they do or don't do. It is kind of like the idea of keeping a food journal. I am a strong believer in that, too especially for those who are trying to lose weight. Lord knows I have lost enough. As a matter of fact, I have to go back to trying to eat more, because I cannot gain muscle. In fact, the last time I weighed, I had lost muscle and that will not do (too much cardio). So, it's now lifting, no cardio and eat like a horse. Pass the oats, would ya?

Cisco, As another poster stated, I am more of a lurker (as opposed to a stalker) than a poster. I currently use a personal trainer 3 hours weekly, focusing on plyometric-type exercises. I tripped on the Gauntlet stair climber about 8 months ago, resulting in a partial rotator cuff tear and an avulsion fracture of a humeral tuberosity; I am just able to lift light weights at this time. In the interim, I have focused on cardio, usually an hour or more of treadmill, elliptical, spin bike, or any combination. I have been waiting for the snow to melt and the temps to increase before running outside. I ran once on a 17 degree day--won't do that again. At 5'3", 143#, I don't need to lose or gain much weight, but I am working toward removing the insulation from my six pack. I am expecting to run a 5 mile race on April third, and would like to complete at least a half marathon by my transplant anniversary in July. (#3). I am also trying to increase my flexibility, but I mostly just talk about it. Its not working, I will need to try something else. Keep working Charlie |

I am glad that you all exercise. Lord knows how important it is for us. Most of the time, I try to get in the gym 5 times a week, one day of which I do circuit, the other 4 are legs, chest/triceps, abs/shoulders and back/biceps. I have stopped cardio for now.

I am trying to put on some muscle. I know that in order to do that, I must eat more than I burn. That is why cardio is at a minimum. I now regret some of that cardio that I was doing at one time. So, not long ago, I have tried to start to turn things around.

When I had more energy I was in the gym 6 days a week. It has become harder as my situation worsens. I do try for at least 3 a week now. Trying to get back to lifting starting today. I have bad knees and a bad ankle so i have to be carefull with walking to much as I swell badly in my ankle. I agree about the food log. |

If you have problems with knees, elliptical machine is probably the best choice to not have impact on them.

My daily exercise routine is walking for 45- 60 daily four times per week. I recently hurt my neck so weights are off limits. All sorts of abs are my favorite and I try and aim for daily ab work. Thank you Coach Cisco
