I went to Gold's Gym and sign up and signed my hubby up for a 24month contract. I told the owner that I don;t know for sure if I could get hubby in here. So he gave me a 14 day period where I only put down the first payment. I went home all happy told hubby how about we both start going to the gym. He said he didn't want to do that stuff. So, the day not even 24hrs, I went to cancelled the contracts that I signed for both of us. The man would not give me the check back for some reason, so I got him to write canceled on it. I did get to cancelled papers signed. Do you think they will try to do anything, like take money out of our account even though I cancelled it right there in their office. I really didn't understand why he had to keep the check? Some processing crap. I told him maybe later I will just join by myself. Anyone else deal with Gold's Gym and their contracts?

Some insurance companies have silver sneakers. Check out what your insurance company has. I would call the bank and make sure you cancel that check. I do not trust these places.

Deb, I have a gym membership with a small, private place. However, I did check with the Gold's in my area and I didn't like their approach ..... it seemed to be ALL about money, and not about fitness. That is my opinion, of the local Gold's gym. I agree with Risa, hope you called the back to cancel the check. The peace of mind can be worth the "fee" involved. DAP

When I was in the Navy stationed in San Diego, we had a lot of guys on our ship who joined various gyms, Gold's was one of them. It seemed that many of the guys got stuck with lengthy contracts, had troubles cancelling trial memberships, etc. I agree with DAP, I think it is all about the money. Sure that's what their in business for, but I think some gyms have some shady practices. Growing up our family used to have a membership at the YMCA and that seemed pretty legit and they often have programs that come with the membership that you either just sign up for or come and go as you please. Besides the weights and trainers, there was also raquetball courts, indoor pool, indoor track and various other things.

I have a gym membership at Planet Fitness. It is $19.99 per month and they take it straight out of the bank account for a year. It includes full use of the whole gym and one other person can work out with you at any given time for free. I like it and it is a good environment. We have a lot of fitness and Yoga places here where I live. Gold's, L.A. Fitness, Planet Fitness, Curves, Shaq's 24 hour Fitness, BodyWorks, Powerhouse Gym, and Bally's. That's a lot!!
