Hi to all our body building buddies here.

Can you share your personal experiences taking creatine in supplement form. Did you find a rise in your creatinine levels? Did your doctors tell you not to take it because you were already potentially compromising your kidney function while taking anti rejection medications?

I am not going to take this but wanted to have this information available for those new members who are pre transplant.

Merry Christmas!

Actually, Rise, you might just figure that I would know something about the subject. Creatine is a no-no according to my tx team. Why? Because it raises creatnine levels. It is always a good idea to do a little bit of research before you take any supplements, and I am glad I did.

I came back after looking on the net for a complete answer as to why not to use creatine. It can cause water retention and kidney stones. Other side effects can be muscle cramps, muscle strains, high blood pressure, liver dysfunction and kidney damage. I think they were saying that a normal dose is 5 grams. In one athlete who took 10 grams per day for 6 weeks, he ended up with rhabomysis and acute kidney failure. They have also had some cases of contaminated creatine. I think I am going completely "natural," or maybe a better term would be "organic." LOL!!

Perfect Answer Cisco!

I know there was a discussion on this forum before but since there was no mention of Creatine in the title, I felt there was a great need for this awareness.

I just knew it raised creatinine levels and it did in my husbands blood work. I begged him to go off of it many years ago. I am glad he listened.

I heard of a patient many years ago taking creatine and this person ended up needing a kidney transplant.
