Interesting character, excellent motivator, and seems to be a great source of information especially for beginners. |

I have a question for you guys When working on a lat pull down machine you are basically using many of the same muscles you would be using when you do pull ups. My husband says that I am not ready to do a pull up because I can only pull down sixty pounds on the lat machine. I say it does not hurt to try the instructions in the above video. When I was younger (no excuse) I would do pull ups often. Is he correct? I say he is wrong Shhhh I will not tell him what we discuss LOL

Doing lat pull downs while similar to doing a pull-up is not a good method of training to do a pull-up. The instructions in that video are excellent and better suited to training your muscles for the movement. Another method I've used and seen used is to hang a resistance band from a pull-up bar and then put a foot or knee on the band to provide a bit of assistance. I'll look for a good video that demonstrates this. |

That is what I had tried to explain to you at one time. The only difference was that I was talking about assisted pullups on a Smith machine, which makes it easier yet, because you have something to hang the bands from.

Thanks guys! I knew I was right. YAY!! I sort of have a mini injury so I will take it easy for a few days before I begin to try and learn to retrain my pullups. Years ago, I would just hold my pull ups for as long as I could (about 20 seconds).

Hey LadyDi! I've been alright thank you. Haven't been hitting the gym as much, I was laid off a few months ago and lost my routine. Finally decided to diet down again, so almost 2 weeks now dieting but gym very rarely. I will get back to it of course How is everything with you?? Any new trips?? I come on here from time to time to see if I can contribute anything.
