http://fitness.mercola.com/sites/fitness/archive/2012/06/01/long-cardio-workout-dangers.aspx?e_cid=20120601_DNL_art_1 I definitely agree with this article as I have seen what happens to my health when I overdo my workouts.

Taking study's of men who have run over 100 marathons and then saying running marathons is dangerous is crazy. Most runners only run 1 or 2 marathons a year plus a few shorter races. I have run 3 in the last 5 years with the last one coming 18 months after transplant. I run 25 to 50 miles a week, and have never felt better or more alive than while i'm in a race. Would I be better off running a little less, probably but there is also the issue of mental health and how it affects the body. I have never felt better than since I took up running. The minor exercise this article recommends for good health is just plain silly.

I agree with you, I had a kidney transplant on July 5 , 2010, i feel i must exercise regularly, or i do not feel good, I believe regular exercise is great for the body as well as the mind, I do not agree with this article regarding exercise. |

One thing that everyone has to keep in mind is that people exercise for different reasons. Some people exercise to lose weight. Some exercise because they like to exercise, whether they lift weights, run, bike ride or whatever. Some people like competition. Personally, I take the approach that whatever I do, I am burning calories but having fun while I do so. If I do cardio--elliptical or treadmill, I always warm up and cool down. Usually, before a lifting session, I will take 10 or 15 minutes to warm up on the elliptical or recumbent bike. I then do a 45 minute workout. When I am done, I spend about 30 or 35 minutes on the treadmill. Then, I am done with conventional exercise. I have many other things that I like to do that burn lots of calories, but they are things that I would do anyway, and they are what I would consider to be cross training. On those days, I may not lift or I may not do cardio. But again, it is something I enjoy doing. I looked at the most recent weeks activity. I did 18 miles of cardio and lifted 5 times (started on Monday, ended on Sunday) I worked in the big garden once in that week. But I do other things that keep me busy. You just do not get the intensity from some activities that you do others. One has to wonder what role endorphins are playing in our activity.

I did too much exercise on last week. I walked 10 miles on last Thursday and 8 miles on Friday. I also did some weight lifting after that. I was extremely tired on Saturday and Sunday while I had to work for 13 hours. I don't think I will ever do that again. Take care,

Thank you all for sending in your thoughts. Regarding Dr. Mercola. he voices his thoughts from the latest research. You will notice at the end of his articles there are references from news stories and research findings. Thank you Gregg for sending this article to me http://news.yahoo.com/ultra-marathons-might-ultra-bad-heart-040100199.html It has been known for many years that too much exercise can weaken your immune system. My Tx doctor told me not to overdo it in the early days. I guess it is normal for some tx patients to push and push. Listen to your body. Not too long ago, I thought I will exercise a few times per day but not push myself all that much during each exercise session, well two days later, my throat felt sore. I cut back and thankfully I did not get sick. .

If you overdo one day, sometimes you lose a day of exercise. For example, on Thursday, which is my circuit day, as per usual, I did 20 sets at home. Well, I had a very rigorous workout at the gym and between the two, I did 55 sets. I was supposed to do legs yesterday. I was sore enough from Thursday that there was no way that I was doing legs. So I learned that I have a stopping point. Normally on that day, I do 44-49 sets and I will make sure that I do not exceed that in the future.
