I bought a book today from Amazon.com with only $5.65. Heart of Iron: My Journey from Transplant Patient to Ironman Triathlete by Kyle Garlett. I got his story from a DVD of Ironman World Championship 2010 which I bought few months ago. Here is the DVD on youtube.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzbzzQ1RmVA&feature=relmfu Joan

I am glad you like the book. I use the DVD of Ironman Wold Championship 2007 and 2010 for my mental weakness while I am doing my exercises. It really works. I also bought the DVD of Ironman Wold Championship 2007 from eBay. There are many inspirational stories. Here is the DVD on youtube.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rT-oyhgEaqA&feature=related 2007 I had been sick physically and mentally for last 20 - 30 years due to my kidney disease. I did not exercise at all. I cried and felt sorry for myself. Now, I am 53. I don't want to waste another 20 years or rest of my life being lazy. Instead, I want to dedicate all of my times to fitness and to have a quality of life. I walked and run a half marathon (13.1 miles) at Lake Tahoe last year. Take care,

I'm so glad you found my book! I'd love to know how fellow transplants respond to reading about my experiences, which I'm sure mirror many of yours. Best of luck and good health to you both. Kyle |

Hi, Kyle: Nice to know you are on this forum. Thank you for the book and for sharing your experience with us. I am sure I will learn a lot from your book as I did from Lance Armstrong's book. Right now my goal is to build muscle strength and finish a half marathon without too much pain. I did a half marathon on last Sept. It took 2 weeks for recovery. After I retire, I will try triathlon. Take care and best wishes, Joan

For all concerned on this thread, I am acquainted with several heart transplant recipients who compete in running and biking marathons. One is Donald Arthur of New York. After receiving a heart transplant, he began long-distance running. Now, he's trying to complete a marathon in every US state. Another friend Bill Wohl of Arizona, has competed in many marathons after his transplant following 159 days of having a SynCardia http://www.syncardia.com/ artificial heart in his chest prior to his human heart donor. This guy is truly amazing. Another heart pal is John Fisher, who now lives in Sweden. John is always competing in various marathons. He even joined Bill Wohl in a San Francisco marathon several yrs ago. BTW A Ironman Competition was recently held very close to my home. This wonderful event was in Woodlands Texas a few weeks ago. These folks are truly to be admired. KyleG, I truly admire you, also. Ol' Bob
