Hi everyone. Hope you're all doing well.

Pre transplant I was a keen runner. I am about 4 months post liver transplant now and really really want to start running again but I'm just scared. I used to push myself a fair bit. Now my ankles hurt from just walking around. I know I need to start soon else it will just get harder and harder.

Are there any runners out there? How long did you wait before starting to run again? Any tips for getting back into it? How much did you start off with?

I started running at age 64 and had completed one marathon plus many shorter races . Early 2010 I found that I had liver cancer and was put on the transplant list. I continued to train when I could and ran a June 2010 Marathon. One month later I got the call and had a transplant in July. I got back to running very short distances after about 2 months of walking.I still remember how very hard that first walking mile was. About 4 months later I contacted a lung infection and was back to square one. When that cleared up I started training again and this past January, 17 months after transplant I ran another Marathon and accomplished my dream of qualifying for the Boston Marathon. God willing that's were I will be next April.

I started running as soon as I could manage. So I say run when you can but check with your doctors first. My Doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ. think it's great and our very supportive.

I think running is very good for health and fitness. But I am not a good runner. I am old now. However I try to walk, jog, run, and weight lifting.

Enjoy your running,
