Well, let's see. Today is a non-exercise day. We are repotting and dividing orchids today for the upcoming season, not necessarily in that order. I may have someone that I had met on an orchid site stopping at the house briefly on her way to Arizona from Chicago. She had said that it would either be today or Sunday. I told her that Sunday I was going fishing and that if that happened she could just give me a call on my cell phone. I may also end up mowing the lawn and helping my brother with a fence around his garden. (We just got it put up before to keep the rabbits out) All that and I am going to see if I can make chat!

Brother turned lazy on me yesterday and I went fishing today. Going to clean this evening, so my day is full, no matter what.

Wow! I went outside this morning to kind of hoe in our garden in the back yard. Man, it is sooo humid all ready!! And my goofy brother and I are supposed to fix the garden area at his house today--this afternoon to be exact!! I better make sure to drink lots and lots of water. WARNING: IT IS VERY WARM AND HUMID TODAY. PUT ON YOUR SUNSCREEN AND BE CAREFUL--GONNA BE A SCORCHER!!

Hard to do much when it is raining. I did find out some valuable information for my future back workouts. I am limited to a functional trainer which only has a 75# limit on it, unless you want to use one for both arms, and then it is restricted to 150#. At my brother's, we have a cheap lat machine. I did sets of 8 today on it at 90,110 and 130#, and I probably could have done more. So on back and biceps day, that is where I am going to work out. I have enough weights over there to easily go to 200#.

Today will be an interesting day. My trainer is out. He had his appendix removed last week, so I have a different trainer today and tomorrow. I am doing chest and triceps today and circuit tomorrow. I am also working tonight for a couple of hours.

Finally, a day off from formal exercise! Actually, I am sore enough today that I want to wait until tomorrow. I will do legs then. But for today, we have someone from the furniture store coming over to fix a problem that we have with a love seat we bought. I also have to go to the eye doctor this afternoon, and since LadyDi took the day off, too, I was hoping to get a nice bike ride in today, since it is so nice outside for a change.

Well, I took out the lettuce in the garden today as it was getting bitter. Got so much rain so quick that it grew too fast and we did not get to enjoy too much lettuce. I also weeded the onions. I always try to make sure that I keep the grass out of the onions as it is so closely related that it competes too much with onions for everything. I used the hoop hoe on the other garden in our back yard. Later today, after noon, I am going to head to the gym and do legs. Then I will have a couple of days off of formal exercise before going back at it again on Monday.

I did a core workout this morning. It is a balance thing more than anything else. You have to be able to tighten your abs and glutes in order to do some of the balance exercises. In addition to this, I went to the gym, not to work out per se, but to do some cleaning, which required the moving of some barbell plates. I also washed some windows. Altogether, it burnt some pretty good calories.

Did some more cleaning at the gym today. Thank God that is over with until next year. I spent three days over there cleaning for a bunch of fools that could care less.

Today, I have chest & triceps at the gym. I will do back & biceps tomorrow, then I am going to kind of play for the next couple of days. I have not taken a break from lifting in quite some time, and this seems like a good time to do it. I won't work out again until Saturday.

I finally am done with lifting until Saturday. Between now and then, I am going to attack the treadmill with renewed vigor. I may do bike and elliptical, too. I have not really been doing very much cardio work at all, other than an occasional bike ride or walk with LadyDi.

I picked a 2 gallon bucket of beans this morning out of my garden at my brother's house. Damn japanese beetles are munching on them, so I put a little something on them to slow the beetles down.

Hard at it again today. Picked up a license plate sticker for our car, used the weedeater next to the garage between us and the neighbor's fence, used the blower on the porches and driveway, put some stuff on the beans again to keep the beetles off. I still have a full body circuit workout this afternoon, we have a wake to go to and we are going out for a bite to eat after that.

Went to get weighed yesterday. What a disappointment! I had gained .6# of fat and lost .2# of muscle. I think that losing 8 days during the last month or so, has not helped. I am rededicating myself to do a better job of watching what I eat and making sure that there is at least 500 calories difference between what I burn and what I eat.Grrr!

Today should be a total freak out for my body. I let my trainer pick today's workout. Today's workout includes: Cable Fly & Bench, DB Inclined Bench, DB Declined Bench, Close Grip Bench, Cable Overhead Extensions, V Pushdowns, 3 Way Ball Crunches and the dreaded AB ROLLER!! Not sure about this, but he may have forgotten shoulders!

Well, just debating on whether to do treadmill of elliptical today. Even though it has been two days since I did legs, they are still a bit sore. The way that I understand this is that it is a large muscle group, and if you are truly working your legs the way that you should, you will be sore and maybe even for a few days. Sometimes, my legs are sorer the second day than they are the first day.

Cisco

Ask your massage therapist about cupping. I find this type of therapy simply amazing. Check out this page. Click on equipment and then click on the blue rubber cups.
http://www.cuppingtherapy.org/

My acupuncturist uses the real cupping with suction. I prefer these blue rubber cups because they do not leave you with dark marks.

The first time I had a cupping treatment, It felt like you are receiving a massage from the inside of your muscles. Intense is not the word and oh so healthy as this pulls out impurities. Ask him and see if he is trained with this cupping technique.

Today, I am going to the gym after my 10 a.m. snack to do a little elliptical. Three miles, I hope. Then, about 2 o'clock, I will head back over for my chest/triceps/shoulders workout. I have to see about giving the lovely lady a hand with supper, as we are having my brother and sister and her brother over for supper, provided they all show up.

Actually, dinner was wonderful. We had some of the white bass, yellow bass and I ate the only sauger we caught at Kentucky Lake. We also had fried okra, mozzarella with tomatoes, basil and red wine vinegar, asparagus and Seeduction bread from Whole Foods plus the wife made some homemade tartar sauce that is killer!

Well, it's off to the gym early today as the little woman has some honey-do's for me to do later in the day and I thought I might try to go shoot some pool with a buddy of mine late this morning or early this afternoon. Hopefully, if it goes okay, I won't have to go back for a year.

Had a rough day yesterday with circuit and I try to take the day before and day after off of lifting to allow the body to recover. Tomorrow I will do some family stuff, clean the gym and do cardio again, leaving Sunday to do legs.

Actually, I ended up walking and running six miles today and tonight. Not bad for a no lift day.

I walked and ran for 2.2 miles last night. Today is a semi-lift day. I decided to do shoulders on a separate day than chest and triceps because i just do not have the time to devote to my shoulders that I need at the gym on Mondays with doing chest and triceps, too. I plan on doing Military Press, Front and Lateral Raises and DB Reverse Flys. I also have to work at both gyms today, the first at noon and the second this evening. I am also going to do some treadmill this morning.

I ran and walked 3.21 miles last night after dinner. I plan on doing the gym today for treadmill only, since yesterday was my circuit day.

The plan today is to get a couple of miles of treadmill in this morning and then do my circuit this afternoon. Since at the second gym I belong to has an actual assisted pullup/reverse dip machine, I am going to try to switch some things up in order to have my pullups come on Tuesday, when I can use that machine on back and bicpes day and put something else in place of it on Thursdays. I am trying to see if I can get to the point where I can do actual pullups without the assist. This will be an accomplishment for me--I never could do pullups, even in high school as I was the proverbial 98 pound weakling. (Actually, I weighed 120# senior year in high school)

Whole bunch of stuff happening today. Back and biceps workout at 11, shower, massage at 1, treadmill after dinner this evening. It should prove interesting as I will be using an assisted pullup machine. I should be able to tell just how close I am to being able to do regular pullups, something I have never been able to do-- even in high school. I have the feeling that it is not that far off.

Another non-lifting day today. I will go over at some point today to get on the treadmill. I do have to clean up the mats at the gym at some point this weekend--the owner used soap on them when the carpets got cleaned in the gym and now they are very slick. The only thing I know to do is to use vinegar and water on them to get the soap out and give them some grip.

Nothing real serious today. Some core work this morning and clean the gym this afternoon. I have to clean the mats in the gym as the owner cleaned them with soap and water last weekend. It made them very slick!

Yesterday, I took my brother-in-law to Barnes. I walked all over that place. I worked last night at one of the gyms. I have to work at the other one today, plus I am doing a few miles of cardio and doing circuit this afternoon. Arms are a little sore from doing biceps on Tuesday because I did exercises that I do not normally do. I think I will put some icy hot on the this morning before I go to work or lift.

All I can say is my weight is down three pounds. Lean mass stayed the same. Weight this morning was 191.8. Cardio as an addition to lifting has made the difference. 80 miles this month, as of later today. Circuit workout today also.

The usual today. Two or three miles and a chest/triceps workout. Tomorrow will be a bear. A leg workout in the morning, followed by a massage at 1 p.m. Then at 6 p.m., another workout. This time, back and biceps. I don't like to double up on workouts, but I got lazy yesterday and just ran and walked a few miles.

Actually, when I stood still and faced you, you could see that one shoulder was higher than the other because one muscle at the side of my neck on the left side was taut and pulling on my shoulder towards my neck. I also had some issues with my left thigh and right calf being really tight when I did elliptical cardio work. I go now about once every two or three weeks for a tune up. I no longer do elliptical but I think I will continue with the massages every three or four weeks as it keeps my hard working muscles from being uncomfortable. My workouts are getting more intense all the time. I am about to either switch from using dumbbells to using a barbell again or increasing the weight I am using with dumbbells. I am rather hesitant to do some exercises because I do not want to injure myself. I have talked to my trainer about doing them, but he has said they kind of scare him. I know that I am not ever going to be an Arnold, but I want to keep myself in as good of condition as I possibly can. I have not had a lot of recent big gains in muscle, but I have been losing weight while maintaining the muscle I have, which is almost as good and is okay with me. I have been walking and running anywhere from 70 to 95 miles a month on the treadmill for about the last three months, while still trying to burn more than I am eating by 250-500 calories a day. The weight loss is slow, but I don't lose any muscle that way. I have lost about eight pounds since August 17th, and I am happy with that.

Redesigning the workouts. Will work the following:
Chest/Shoulders
Back
Biceps/Triceps
Circuit
Legs
This may actually be a better solution for me to use in working out. I need to put less time into certain muscle groups and more into others, plus, by switching up from Chest and Triceps to Chest and Shoulders and moving the triceps workout away from Chest and Shoulders, I give my triceps a rest.

As a matter of fact, I don't know why, when I got done with my cardio at the gym today, I had the urge to sneeze. It happened three times before I left the gym. Then, my nose started to run. It ran when I was on my break, until I got back to the gym. I have had no problem since then. Just kind of strange.

Today, I just cleaned in two gyms, walked and ran two miles, some on an incline. (The ones where I couldn't get pulled over for speeding) 4-4.5 mph @ 4.5% incline, or 3 to 3.5 mph @ 10% incline. It DOES burn a couple more calories. It was a little easier for me to burn 400 ca,lories as I normally try to do while I am on the treadmill.

I have really been watching my salt lately and will continue to do so. When I woke this morning, my weight was less than 190 for the first time in months and I plan on keeping it that way. yesterday, I only had 700-800 mg of salt. I am trying to keep it down under 1500 mg.

Thank you, Dottie! Well, I am 188.6 this morning. I guess I could not expect another day where I lost some more weight. I wouldn't want to do it that quickly, anyway. that is what got me into trouble the last time. If you lose it too fast, you also lose muscle, and I have worked too hard to do that. This morning, it is my plan to do a couple of miles on the treadmill. I have my appointment this afternoon for my circuit training. I look forward to this day most of all as far as my exercises are concerned. You get an aerobic effect from moving around and not taking much time between exercises.

Hi Cisco

I am following your blog now and I have a few special requests:-).

With each blog post can you type out the day of the week.

Monday- chest and back etc..... tues....bicepts and triceps

I believe this will help your followers. Also for search results could you write out dumb bells and then list the pounds of instead of db14#

If this is too much then forget I mentioned it. The more words that are spelled out the more searches will be pulled up and others will be able to check out your blog and you will be reaching a larger audience.

Keep up the great work!

I weighed myself on the Tanita scale at the gym today. I had my last fitness assessment on 11/1/10. At that time, my weight was 196.8 pounds and my body fat percentage was 24.8%. Today, I weighed 189.4, and my body fat percentage was 23.7%. So I made some gains in the last two months. My goal is to get under 20% body fat and 180 pounds without looking anorexic.

Overdone?? I feel like it after the gourmet meal we had tonight! We are going to the gym in the morning. I am to do biceps and triceps. I will have LadyDi get some pictures if we don't draw too much of a crowd. I asked her to let me take her picture too, but she is having none of it. I will probably look like a blimp in the morning. LOL!!

Today is leg day. Since I am by myself at the gym, instead of doing leg press, I will probably do one legged press and drop the weight some as I don't feel comfortable using a lot of weight when nobody else is around. Other than that, it will be a regular leg workout followed by some walking and running on the treadmill.

A three mile walk and run this morning and chest and shoulders routine this afternoon. Next Monday, I am switching up the chest routine a little bit. I am going from doing chest with all dumbbells to doing the flat bench press with a barbell set. I am going to do this to eventually increase the amount of weight I am lifting as here, it is not only lifting the weight, but managing the balance to do so.

Tomorrow is an off day for me. No lifting. I am going to walk and run. I also have work to do. I am hoping that we don't have too much problem with drifting snow, or I will be out shoveling, too. I shoveled the neighbors walk in addition to cleaning off our two cars, walk and driveway. He is a good friend of mine that has had the misfortune of contracting liver cancer. We all kind of look out for each other around here.

Today, it's circuit day. I will mix up the routine today. That is to say, I will be doing an exercise for each body part, the exception to that is my back since I blasted that on Tuesday and it is still tender. I will also walk/run another 2-3 miles.

Cisco
what do you think about this exercise

I have a mini trampoline and I jog on it and other kinds of mild jumping. I am just not comfortable jumping on it standing straight up because it is small all around.

Instead I hold onto a table that is near the trampoline and lower my trunk and jump as high as I can landing on the balls of my feet.

Do you think this sounds like a good workout? It feels good but not sure.

There isn't one at any gym I have been to, so I am quite skeptical. I looked at what you had in the health and fitness thread and it looked too good to be true. I have to do a little research on this one, but I cannot believe that it would have gone this long without making a giant splash in the media if it was true.

I have kind of let things go a little bit. I have had some problems with my shoulder lately and I am seeing a chiropractor. As a matter of fact after I am done with exercise today, I have an appointment to see him. I also managed to catch a cold at the latter part of the week, so I did do biceps and triceps on Saturday, but did not run on that day or Sunday, nor did I do legs on Sunday. I was just trying to get over my cold. I also plan on running and walking this morning. I was kind of like a bump on a log on Sunday.

Today, I am hitting the chiropractor's office this morning and then, I am going to the gym. After a back workout, I head home for some lunch after which, I head to the other gym to walk/run. When I am done there, I come home and start dinner. Tonight, I am roasting a chicken. I have not been posting my workouts, but I will start again once I get some of these back issues out of the way.

Yesterday was another day where I burnt over 4,000 calories--4,074 to be exact. Today, I have all ready made some chicken for lunch. I am waiting for my friend Richard to bring an orchid to me so that it can be entered in our show and sale to be judged. he probably won't make it, but it seems like the description is pretty magnificent. Then, I head to the gym to do Back. I come back home for lunch, water orchids in the window and head to the second gym to run 5 miles. I come back home to fix dinner. Somewhere in there, I work in a couple of snacks

Way to go Cisco. I wish my life was as organized as that.......its interesting trying to find balance between work and training now that exciting things are happening with Empower Pro.
However-I am solid in not forgetting what is the real reason i am here and have been known to stop in the middle of a long conference call and let them know i am hanging up because I need to go train. :-) Priorities.

Your posts always make me smile :-)

Sounds like your back is getting better and hood luck with the Orchids!

Still a long way to go on the back, Dottie. Middle to upper back is extremely tight. I am going to start icing it at night and putting heat on it in the morning. I have also been doing stretching exercises to try to loosen it up. I will continue to see the chiropractor and keep my fingers crossed. It is preventing me from making progress in my lifting. In that regard, I have been concentrating on form even more than before.

Gregg..how is your back doing? Do you think the chiro is helping? My neck has been awful for a few months now..I need to go ..but don't want to start all that again....plus I want to find a new one when I do go. I have curvature of the spine in my lower back..hurts all the time. Hope you are doing better. I hope to start walking outside again...like tomorrow...seems every time I go on my treadmill my lower back hurts worse the next day. Weird.

It is better, but they are still pounding on me trying to get it straightened out. I am trying to coordinate my trips to the chiropractor and masseuse to be the same day, so that I get maximum benefit from it. I have what they call lardosis...no, that ain't a fat butt LOL!! It is called sway back. But that is not my real problem...that is in my upper back, just under my shoulder blades. Treadmill does not bother me, but I am wondering if running outside might. I am going to see my kidney doctor in Springfield today. I have some things to take to him, since this is the first time that any of these doctors has seen me since dialysis. This prevents me from having to go to St.Louis every six months. One of the things that I have to show him is the sheet that I pulled of my exercise site that gives calories burned per day for the last month (average). It also gives amount of time per day with physical activity, sleep time and steps per day. Calories burned is 3575 per day, Physical activity is 4 hours, 35 minutes, sleep time is 6 hours, 34 minutes and steps is 9,322, thanks to my warrior cardio regimen. In have not walked and run every day due to other activities that I needed to do--I only did so on 18 out of the last 30 days. On some of those days, though, I had to be on my feet quite a bit. I have come to realize, though, that exercise intensity is where the difference in calorie burn is, specifically on the treadmill.

I am absolutely beat. It is about 4:30 and I am all ready over the three thousand calorie mark. I got a lot done today. I ran three miles, cleaned out two flower beds, watered orchids in the greenhouse and inside and cleaned two places. I still have to go to the store this evening.
