In 1999, I had a vision for a website with interaction for pre and post transplant patients and their families from all over the world.

With a great number of people who have supported us, we are still up and running today.

About me- I have Cystic Fibrosis and underwent two double lung transplants almost 10 years apart.

Ok time to get real with world Risa. You have been a real slacker lately and I am not happy with you. So what are you going to do about it Risa? hmmmm well tomorrow is always another day. Excuses! Well I worked out for thirty minutes on the eliptical tonight. You know you can do better. hmmm How about working out again before dinner? ok.

Off I go to workout.

I plan on doing some push ups and some dumb bell chest press exercises.

I hope you log all your Fitness routines not for others to see but this is for you. Perhaps others will join you and if not, that is just fine. You and your blog will get along just fine.

See you tomorrow,
Have a good workout
thank you for motivating me Blog.

Looking at you today Fitness blog and decided to tell you that I decided not to workout due to my monthly friend who likes to visit me. Tomorrow will be hitting the weights and cardio. Tonight will be a light workout. We will see what happens... You happen to stare at me and I had to find an answer for you.

My eliptical had attached handles and if my feet start to hurt, I lift my feet off slightly off the pedals. I can go faster this way. Sometimes I increase the resistance depending on how I feel. I own this machine for five years now. If I stay on too long, my feet hurt a bit. I try not to use it every single day. Tomorrow I will use the tread.

What don't you like about it?

Sorry blog, I have neglected writing for the past few days.

I have been taking long walks, eliptical training and yes some relaxing along the way.

today I jogged on my trampoline and lifted weights, pushups and took a nice walk with my hubby.

Good to see you get with the program, Risa. I am glad you did this. I had thought about doing it myself, but I have been posting to the Weekly Accomplishments, and I don't get feedback, so I figured it would be a waste of time for me to start a fitness blog.

Fitness has been very laxed for several days. I took a long walk with my husband last night but had to stop because my feet started hurting again. I think it could be my drug levels and will find out soon.

Today I spent the entire day at my tx center going through my six month routine. Thankfully, my lungs are fine along with all my other tests.

I was there waiting for a CT scan for an hour and a half and met two incredible people.

I met a young man named Romaine and another older lady. I will always remember these two people.

We started talking about the election and then all of sudden the conversation changed to health and low and behold, Romain had a trach. He had a scarf around his neck and I thought this was because of high fashion. He did sound a little breathy but that was because he had a trach. He looked very healthy and I would never in a million years think he had a trach. I never knew you could live with a trach for six years. I did say I would ask for prayers for him. He was hoping to be able to have his vocal cords fixed. His lungs are fine but he has some pain when he takes a deep breath. It is amazing that he is alive and survived many gun shot wounds. His story is a miracle.

I took a short walk because it was too sunny. I am going back out now.

I love this song by Kenny Loggins. Motivating and Inspiring

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7-e6Yhu5SU&feature=related

There have been times in my life
I've been wondering why
Still somehow I believed
We'd always survive
Now I'm not so sure
You're waiting to hear
One good reason to try
But what more can I say
What's left to provide
You think that maybe it's over
Only if you want it to be
Are you gonna wait for your sign, your
miracle
Stand up and fight
This is it
Make no mistake where you are
This is it
Your back's to the corner
This is it
Don't be a fool anymore
This is it
The waiting is over
No room to run
No way to hide
No time for wondering why
It's here
The moment is now
About to decide
Let him believe
Or leave him behind
But keep me near in your heart
And know, whatever you do
I'm here by your side
You said that maybe it's over
Not if you don't want it to be
For once in your life, here's your miracle
Stand up and fight
This is it
Make no mistake where you are
This is it
You're going no further
This is it
Until it's over and done
No one can tell you what you know
Who makes the choice of how it goes
It's not up to me this time
You know
There comes a day in every life
This is it
Make no mistake where you are
This is it
You're going no further
This is it
Until it's over and done
This is it
One way or another
This is it
No one can tell what the future holds
This is it
Your back's to the corner
This is it
You make the choice of how it goes
This is it
The waiting is over
This is it
No one can tell what the future holds
This is it
You're going no further

Boy, you would love one of the trainers at the gym. Like an army sargeant.
The guy that trains me is a little more forgiving, but he still occasionally busts my chops. You should try those seated ball twists. Gosh, are they fun. It isn't about the weight. I went from using a 6 pound medicine ball to using a 10 pounder in three easy lessons. LOL!!

Risa,

I love that song and it brought back such wonderful memories for me. I'll print out the words. A very dear friend of mine was newly t diagnosed w/Pancreatic Cancer. We all know too well, that the prognosis for this is gloomy but there are survivors. It's important for me to help him stay positive. This is a wonderful friend that helped me so much with Mike and the Tx. Always there with a smile and to lend and ear or a hand. Music is a great way to look at things. Can you suggest any other music that might be helpful for me and my friend at this time? Or poems? I know there have been so many wonderful ones said by group members that I wish I could remember.

Thanks

Risa,

I bet you feel great when you exercise! I want to get myself to walk and then start jogging. My doc wants me to walk a mile a day! I gave him a crazy look when he told me that. If I attempted that someone would have to scrape me off the floor! I think jogging is liberating. I remember those days when I could....

I needed a push. Yes I am exercising daily. Enough? that is the question. No not enough. I love stretching yoga and walking.

I am thinking of selling my eliptical machine or if I can trade it in for a stationery bike instead. Any suggestions?

I know that normally, Life Fitness makes good equipment, but it is more for a gym than home fitness. You might look at True and see if they have anything. They make home gym equipment. That is what type of treadmill I have.

Risa, I have one of the most amazing stationery bikes~~ My hubby bought it for me about three years ago....and it has maybe a couple of miles on it...mostly by the grandsons...LOL.... But anyway...it is wonderful...and as soon as I get a few more pounds off, I am going to start riding it again....hoping that it strengtens my knees a little bit. It has all kinds of fancy stuff on it....that of course I can't even begin to tell you what they are, since I have not really USED it yet. It is a Nordic Track.....wonderful machine. So much nicer than my old one. AND...it is low so that with my 'bad knees' I don't have to climb up into the seat. It is more like sitting in a chair...nice big seat.......and then it has a 'step through' design that allows you to sit in the seat without haveing to 'carry' one of your legs across a big high bar. It's the best.

Hi Janet

Exercise is contagious! Once you are introduced to the feeling of the exercise accomplishment, you will want to continue on a regular basis. Think of taking small steps then before you know it you will be able to progress and keep on the steady track.

Yesterday I walked for thirty minutes on my treadmill. In the mid afternoon I marched in place for fifteen minutes (cross crawl exercise)

Then in the early evening, I went for a walk jog around my neighborhood. Today I feel really good.

Risa, I do recall that from ''years ago'' when I was much more fit. I am looking forward to getting out and walking again. I am just hoping that my stupid knee will hold up long enough for me to take a walk now that I am feeling like going walking. BUT...I always have my wonderful stationery bike, and I really need to start using it.....at least I don't have to worry about walking back home if my knee lets out while I am out on the road.......the bike is right beside the computer!!!!

Janet-just throw on some tunes and have at it. I have an mp3 player that I take to the gym everyday that I go there. I actually have to be careful what I put on there. I like much of the hard rock of the 60's and 70's, but I have to watch the beat, because I tend to mimic it and the length of the song. It's kind of hard to go as hard as you can for a song that is over ten minutes long!!LOL!!

Cisco....MP3???? I wouldn't even know what to do with a thing like that...I am still back in the 'walkman' era..

I love country music, and I have some videos that I used to put on when I would ride my bike, it was like dancing....if you like the song, you keep on riding and then you like the next one, so you keep going and so forth....so, I need to figure out how to put my new DVD's on my computer to play them while I ride. I just figured out how to use the VCR and they go and invent something new....still can't figure out what to do with a remote~~~~

Janet, the reason that I have an mp3 player is that they are so small and will hold so much music. I will admit that my niece's boyfriend is the one who helped figure this stuff out, but now that it is on the player, I am going to take full advantage of it. I think capacity is around 2000 songs.

Gregg.....I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one that is 'technologically challenged' !! My little six year old grandson can handle things like that....so, maybe one day he will put a bunch of music on one for me.

BUT....for now......I choose my bike in my basement, watching my DVDs/ VCR tapes...........and petaling away. All I have to do is make the first step and DO IT....I am finished working on April 16th....the advantage of working in a tax office is only three and a half months of full time work a year...........and after that if finished, I should be up to that 100 lbs of weight loss and will feel like riding that bike....I am almost there now, so it won't be long. AND little Miss Molly and I took two walks today, I have over an acre of land here...........so, we took a walk on parts of this property that I have not set foot on for years...(when I would get down the hill, I couldn't get back up)......best sledding hill around....but not so good for an 'old lady' to try to walk up and down.

PLEASE continue to encourage me to get off my butt....I need all the help I can get.

Love to you all,
Hugs, Janet

I must say I am very proud of myself for keeping steady with my workouts. I am back at jogging on my treadmill. I cross train and try and work all my muscle groups. I started swimming too.

I took off only one day so far.

I am jogging at 4.5-5.0 and walking at 3.5-4.0 for around 45 minutes.

I am working out with the long resistant cords that go inside the corner of the doors. I also workout on a lat machine and this week, I will start back with light weights. I do not plan on lifting heavy weights no more than 10 pounds.

I am losing some body fat and feel overall Wonderful.

I wish I had the motivation to keep my fitness diary like Cisco.

I missed another day oh well. Yesterday I was feeling tired due to not sleeping well. I pushed myself and did not jog but walked at a nice pace.
Oh what a feeling to accomplish a task you want to put off.

Still going strong. Yesterday I walked up a flight a stairs and loved the work out. I am going to set my eliptical trainer on a more difficult setting to simulate stair climbing. I will try one minute intervals and vary the resistance and train slowly working different muscles.

I love jogging and I will do this a few times per week. I will not over train even if I feel I can do more. A little bit of this and a little bit of that.

Last night I practiced an ole Step aerobic routine on my front door step. I will probably practice this on cool nights (not too many of them available in S. Florida)

Jogging in doors on my treadmill along with walking quickly will be my main stay. Yes my eliptical machine is getting used too.

Just wanted to update my fitness blog.

My fitness routines have certainly paid off in more ways than one. My sixth month checkup was off the charts. I had no idea that a second double lung transplant could bring my PFT's in the ninety percentile.

It must be the cardio plus diet and supplements. Whatever the case I will continue to work hard.

Risa, have hit the wall. I can no longer train the way I was because I spend too much time in the kitchen and at the table if I do. I am just lifting three times a week. I don't do cardio, because I cannot eat that much. I assure you that it might just be a good thing to be able to slow down.

Hi Gregg

Why not do minimal cardio? I jog about three times per week and always listen to my body. I do not feel that i am pushing myself when I work out. Maybe that is a good thing? I do not know. i rather workout in moderation than over doing it especially with a compromised immune system.

I do minimal cardio when I am going to lift. I just cannot eat that much. I am having one heck of a time just trying to eat 2500 calories worth of food. Lord help me if I had to eat 3500! That is what I am burning on days that I lift and clean up.

Yeah, how is it going? Getting plenty of exercise? I know I sure am, and from what it sounds like, Heather seems to be as she continues to count backwards on the scale. I am staying pretty steady around 180, but we shall see what happens as my trainer and I focus on a few body parts for each session. Those sessions have made me so sore, but I figure that this will let me know that I am doing enough. Good luck.

Has anyone had a look at P90X? I'm 56 and have been involved with this program for some time. It involves several different workouts with the idea of muscle confusion to get results. Some of the different routines include ; chest and back, arms and shoulders, plyometrics, yoga, kenpo, core synergistics, and ab ripper.

It is an intense workout. You can go at your own pace and the results for me have been wonderful. This system has increased my strength and flexibility while providing cardiovascular benefits.

This is a total body workout system for people who want to get in and stay in shape.

Our 26 year old daughter is entering a fitness contest in August and P90X has been her main workout giving her a "strong lean " look while providing great flexibility.

I highly recommend taking a serious look at P90X. Finding ways to utilize our time wisely helps us to be more productive in other areas of our lives. After all, becoming more aware and enlightened helps us to make better decisions, especially pertaining to our health.

Funny that you mention this routine. I saw the commercial. Do you have a website. I would be interested in buying these videos.

This would be good for me. Thank you!

I need to take a fitness break for my upper body and concentrate on more cardio. That is my goal for the rest of the week.

Risa, you might want to borrow the videos from a friend to see if this is for you. It is an intense workout and you can go at your own pace. When combining resistance training with a cardiovascular workout, you get results that last far after the workout is finished. Your body will keep burning fat while in a recovery or rebuilding mode.

Good luck and BRING IT!

When I walk on my treadmill I use exercise bands. I work out with machines and free weights. I find pushups, crunches and pilates to be a better fit for me. I was never an exercise video fan. I am seeing results when I workout. IT looks like a great system and I am so happy it works for you.

Risa, I'm glad to hear you do a wide variety of workouts. I also am not crazy about workout videos. What this system does is keep me focused on the task at hand and then the workout goes by quickly as I try to keep up with the performers. I use the pause button sometimes but that is getting less and less.

I have always liked to exercise and still do. I find exercising my mind is equally important, so I read alot also concentrating on being more aware.

good for you Donnie

I guess what I really want to say is I feel too challenged by an exercise video. I also like to go at my own pace.

Yes, exercising the mind is extremely important on all levels. That can be an entirely different thread.

I love to 'exercise to videos'....now to explain. When I USED to exercise daily, I would ride my stationary bike and ride to videos. I love country music, so I would put in my favorite country music videos, and ride my bike to the music. Some slower, some faster.....and then I would say, ok, I am going to ride to two, four, six videos, and most times I would still be riding when the next one would come on, and find myself riding for a much longer time than I planned on it, just because I was enjoying myself.

Just a thought....and as soon as I have that new knee, I will be back at this one...at least that is my plan...with a little help from all of you that is.

Hi Janet

Yes, working out to videos helps many people. I like live classes. I have several exercise videos that I have here. For some reason, I workout more easily when doing my own thing.

whatever works is what we need to do.

I will pray that your surgery goes as planned and that your new knee will work better than ever. Please let us know when you are going into surgery.

Hi Donnie

Thank you! I have written about energy testing aka muscle testing many times in the past. Many of my posts are written on the book and media forum.

The best book to learn this from is "Energy Medicine" by Donna Eden.

You can also look up how to muscle test on youtube.

If you want to discuss this please start a thread in the Nutrition and wellness forum or click on one of my energy medicine titles in the books and media section and ask me a question.

When I have time, I will create a sub topic in this blog and call it Energy Medicine. Or if you find something of interest you can write back here and then I will copy and paste your question and start a new section with it.

I hurt my neck so my time online is limited due to not feeling up to snuff.

Risa, My surgery is scheduled for August 20th.....one day before the 15th anniversary of Joe's death. Figured it couldn't make it any worse...so, it's as good of a day as the next I guess.
