12/6/2010 ~

Six days into December and I haven't posted. Yikes, there's lots to catch up on. Here's the Cliff's Notes version.

On @1/1, I had a semi-annual heart biopsy and clinical visit with my transplant team. It was a LONG, COLD and TIRING day. Bottomline was that my labs looked pretty good and my biopsy came back as a 1-R, which is also pretty good. The only issues was that my BP was high once again during the biopsy, 168/100 at one point. That combined with my morning home readings that are borderline high (140/90) the team decided to put me on a BP med (HCTZ), which I started this morning. Interestingly enough, my visit was on my 1.300th day since my transplant and I FINALLY met another one of the 5 transplant coordinators. This is baffling that in 3+ years I see 2 coordinators on a consistent basis and I saw a third one twice many moons ago .......... and, there's still another one that I have met in person, but have never seen in a clinical setting.

This weekend we were in Philadelphia for a joint birthday party for the little people. The theme was "Studio 53" since Alexander turned five recent and Bella turns three today. The party was in an Italian restaurant with a DJ, bancing, disco ball and 20+ kids and lots of parents and grand-parents all running amuck. It was a fun event.

We came back home and to reality in the middle of a heavy snow here late last night.

Back to normal today ..... I hope.

12/9/2010 ~

It's been a busy week, but a good week here. We've seen quite a bit of snow this week and lots of cold. Soon, I start my countdown to the return of spring.

I've been working around the house this week on a number of small, easy tasks and also helping out Mom with a lot of "repair planning" that will actually be starting in a few minutes. We both agreed on the contractor and she liked his price, so today it starts.

Yesterday was a very nice day for me personally. It took quite a while to drive to the Clinic to volunteer, but it was, as always, worth the trip. I finally got to meet an 'old" TransplantBuddie there and after an excellent nice chat with her, I ran into 6 other old friends that were there for various tests. I'm thinking the reason I saw so many older friends there yesterday is due to the fact that tonight is our heart transplant group's Christmas party and they scheduled their tests for this time. This year I'm going to "attempt" to count the number of actual recipients attending. Other years my count was between 100 and 150 ........ all in the same room, at the same time ........ that fact blows me away. I'm thinking it will be a nice evening.

Then, last night we had dinner with the most special of all of my transplant friends. It was an evening that I truly needed!!

I am BLESSED ~ Life is GOOD!!!

12/12/2010 ~

Today we are bracing ourselves for some alleged bad weather. I say alleged, because the forecasts vary from 1/2" of snow to 24" of snow. However, they all seem to agree that it will get bitterly cold and extremely windy over the next few days. We shall see.

Regardless, we continue to live life to it's fullest and attempt to not waste our precious time. I've been staying busy with small projects around the house and an occasional one outside, like making sure the snow blower was gassed up and in running condition.

Last night I got a nice little surprise via email and I want to share it. A very good friend of ours sent the below video, which I uploaded to YouTube (I'm a rookie at YouTube).

I'll simply call it an "Interview with Alexander & Isabella" ~~

12/18/2010 ~

It's been a crazy busy week here, but a good one at the same time.

The week started off with snow and some fairly slick roads, but that stopped. However, the cold has remained.

We' ve had plenty to do this week. My Mom has been keeping me busy running here and there and my wife and I both had an at home accident. Neither of us were injured, but both caused property damage. I was coming up the basement steps and managed to pull a hand rail off of the wall (only had screws into the plaster) and my wife spilled finger nail polish remover in a cupboard, which removed the paint. So, I've been working on a couple of new projects this week.

Volunteered on Wednesday and it was a very good day. Then on Friday, we were back up to my transplant center as my cousin's father-in-law had heart surgery there, so we went and visited with him for a few minutes. My cousin's wife and her Mom and dad were VERY appreciative, since all of them are from out of state.

And, the gentleman we visited was in the ICU. It was only the second or third time since my transplant that I was back in the ICU ..... it gets a little easier each time.

Two weeks ago we were at the "little people's" birthday party ~ here I am with one of the guests of honor .......

Your Guest of honor is beautiful! She certainly loves her Grandpa.

Glad to hear you are busy. That must have been an odd experience to have the hand rail come off.

Glad to hear your mom is on the mend.

Just watched your Grandbabies video. Very cute!

Dec 31, 2010 ~

So, it's the last day of this year. Overall it's been a good year with a lot more positives than negatives. There have been struggles and triumphs, ups and downs, but I always look at the bright side ~ LIFE IS GOOD!

It's been a busy week since Christmas. Running errands and taking care of a number of issues around the DAP1122 World Headquarters. Today, is the last day of my current health insurance plan as tomorrow brings in a new plan, that allegedly should save me money. It will also require me to change to a different mail order pharmacy. I've done a lot of background work to make sure I have virtually everything covered ..... sure hope there aren't any surprises.

Regardless, there are lots of unknowns in all facets of life.

To each and every one of my TransplantBuddies ~ What is important is that ALL of us have a HEALTHY, Happy New Year and that we hold our friends and our families very close to our hearts at all times.

God Bless!!
