This is actually what happened to my sweetie Darlene's left elbow, due to a auto accident caused by another lady driver running through a Stop Sign.

.....requiring surgery to repair tendon plus 6 weeks of physical therapy rehab.

Be very careful while driving on public roadways.

I know that many of us on this website, experience life changing events such as organ transplants while others experience other traumatic events. My sweetie Darlene was involved in a terrible auto accident near Dallas Tx back in 1986, killing her husband instantly. Darlene rec'd very serious injuries, placing her in a 30 day Coma hooked up to a Life Support machine. By the Grace of God, she was spared. We feel that God placed us in each others paths almost 11yrs ago and we have been together ever since then, sharing in a very happy life. We continue to care for each other in many ways, including my very recent stay in the hospital with my brush with the "Grim Reaper" involving my 18th year post heart transplant checkup. Darlene has rec'd 3 spinal surgeries in the past 8yrs. Deep faith and a very positive attitude has helped us to weather these traumatic events.

Darlene's terrible auto accident in 1986. She was sitting on the passenger side when a 18-wheeler semi truck collided with this Chevy pickup truck. Darlene's young son Scooter was sitting in the center seat.

Darlene in Dallas hospital in 1986. Coma

We thank God each and everyday for His Blessings bestowed upon us.

"Here's a update on your Texas pal Bob. I have finally saved enough money to have a full length 36ft metal canopy placed over our travel trailer and have a new A/C installed on the top. Will post pics when completed...... "

As I mentioned in one of my earlier Blog comments,my overhead RV canopy was finally completed this morning. The installation crew showed up at my place way before dawn. Here's the finished product.

Hope you like it, by golly. This will certainly help with my monthly cooling/elec bills.

This new canopy cover has nothing to do with organ transplants but it certainly does my heart good to have it protecting my travel trailer.

Bob,

Looking Good!

I'm sure this will ease some of that heat load from the hot Texas sun. I know how rough it gets in the summertime in the Houston area, but I still enjoy getting out on some of the golf courses there despite the heat and humidity.

I hope everything is going well for you and Darlene.

Have a great day!

Christena's Dad,
Yes, as you know, it is quite humid in S'E' Texas. Been livin' in Texas my whole life except for my hitch in the USMC in my earlier life. I was scrolling through my pic files in my laptop this morning and discovered this pic of me and a cute lit'l neighbor girl back in 1956. Her brother Karl was my best friend in High School.

I wasn't aware of the fact at that time that I would be faced with many heart problems later in my life including a complete heart transplant. Heck ! Heart transplants weren't perfected 'til 1968, twelve years later than the date of this pic.

My cute neighbor in the pic above, Georgene, very recently passed away at the age of 67yrs old, due to cancer. She lived in Brownwood Texas.

My sweetie Dalene just this moment left for work at Child-Care. She has gone to earn our grocery money. <chuckle>

Christena's Dad, you have a wonderful day, also.

In regards to Darlene's accident in post above.
Darlene's lit'l 1997 Nissan pickup truck was ruled "Totalled" by the insurance company, due to heavy damage to the frame. See pics below BEFORE and AFTER. She dearly loved this lit'l truck. She drove it for more than 10yrs. Just to the naked eye, the damage doesn't seem to be too serious, but as you can see, the side metal cab cage was quite bent. I even ordered a cute lit'l license plate cover "Darlene's Lit'l Truck" and placed it on the front of the pickup when it was first purchased in 1998.

The drunk female driver that ran the Stop Sign, her insurance company only reimbursed Darlene $5,800 for the loss of her lit'l Nissan truck.

I forwarded this composition to one of our local newspapers today, "The Conroe Courier".

This could be a wonderful heartwarming story for your many readers in our area. I live in Magnolia Texas and have lived here many years. I rec'd a complete heart transplant January 28th 1991 at St Lukes Hospital in Houston http://www.heartandcoeur.com/story/bob_story.php . Many of my endeavors since my heart transplant can be seen on the Internet by typing my name.....bob pitcock.....into any search mode, Yahoo, Google, Ask Jeeves and many others. Since I am now fully retired from the trucking industry, trucking over-the-road for many years, I have spent many hours on my computer getting acquainted with other organ recipients worldwide. Many have become very personal friends. Many of these wonderful folks' stories can be seen further down in this composition. I make regular phone calls to many of these folks, even in England and Australia. I was recently in St Lukes Hospital with complications discovered during my 18th year post heart transplant exam. I rec'd 3 phone calls from my British pals whilst I was in the hospital for 12 days. I came very close to meeting the "Grim Reaper" face-to-face, but by the Grace of God, I am back at my home feeling fine once more. Just a few of my many, many transplant friends worldwide:

Rhonda Toomer Smith(Heart transplant)-Texas

My first meeting with Rhonda was in St Lukes Hospital in Houston Texas, during the time of my own heart transplant Jan 1991. She was 25yrs old at the time. Rhonda's heart donor was a 14yr old boy. She rec'd her heart transplant on the very same night that I rec'd mine. We became to closest of friends from that time on, even though she lives 220 miles north of me. Unfortunately, Rhonda passed away 12yrs later, due to diabetic problems. She had experienced heart problems ever since her birth. A man-made valve was placed in her heart 5yrs prior to her transplant. The transplant surgical team removed the valve from her old worn out heart, cleaned it up and placed it into a small jewelry box, then presented it to Rhonda as a remembrance token. I drove to Alvarado Texas to sadly attend her funeral service. As I walked by her coffin, I softly patted her hand and whispered "Goodbye lit'l transplant buddy". She was a wonderful lit'l lady and I still miss her dearly. She surely left footprints on my heart.

Mark Pickel(Heart transplant)-Tennessee

I met Mark during one of my post transplant checkups at St Lukes Hospital a few weeks after my return back to my home. I discovered that he was on the waiting list for his heart transplant. We instantly became good friends and I told Mark to call me on the phone when he rec'd his important call, to come on in to the hospital for his badly needed heart transplant. Several months later, I rec'd that call from my pal Mark, he and his Mom were headed to the hospital. I showered quickly, jumped in my car and drove directly to the hospital. He had already gone into surgery on my arrival, so I spent the whole night with his Mom in the OR waiting room to offer my personal/spiritual support to her during this traumatic time. Mark made it through surgery just fine and is now a Vice Principal at a High School in Tennessee 17yrs later. We still stay in contact from time to time.

Andrew Wilson(Domino heart transplant)-UK

Now, this is a very amazing story about my British pal Andrew Wilson, as you will see by the contents below.I was surfing the Internet, looking for other organ transplant stories and discovered a wonderful UK website, in regards to heart transplants. This website was created by another British heart transplant recipient John Fisher. (My close friendship with John can be seen further down in this composition). John's website is titled "To Transplants and Beyond" http://www.heart-transplant.co.uk/ I first discovered Andrew's miraculous heart story on John's website. Andrew rec'd one of the very first "Domino" heart transplants in England at Harefield Hospital by very famous heart surgeon Prof Sir Magdi Yacoub in 1987. I have discovered even today, many people are not aware of "Domino" organ transplants. Andrew's heart donor was young Samantha Dawkins. Samantha was is need of a new set of lungs, due to CF, so at the time of her transplant(heart/lung combination), her own heart was still suitable for transplantation. Andrew rec'd Samantha's original heart, thus allowing them to meet face-to face post transplant. They became the closest of friends, sharing in many happy occasions until Samantha's untimely death one day after her 17th Birthday, due to complications. They were featured on BBC television, and rec'd the honor of flying on the famous Concorde Airliner before it was retired from service. After I met Andrew VIA emails and phone calls in 2003, we shared many wonderful emails, including pics of each other. We even shared gift parcels through the Postal Service. Andrew was a very talented young man, composing his own songs and poetry. He dearly loved pics of old American cars and attended many Car Shows there in England. It saddens me even now, to announce to you that my dear friend Andrew passed away July 7th 2005 there in London, due to further heart problems, at the tender age of 27yrs old. Early on in our wonderful friendship, I had created some organ donor tee-shirts/with my own sketch of a lit'l praying boy on his knees. I then mailed these tee-shirts to many of my heart pals, Andrew being one to receive one of those tee-shirts. His parents sent word to me that they decided to lay Andrew to rest in that very tee-shirt. This was quite a honour for me, because I grew to love him as if he were my own son. Andrew's parents Bryan & Sue told me that my name was even mentioned by the Vicar during Andrew's funeral service, for forming a very close friendship with Andrew prior to his death. I still have some of Andrew's music CDs and I will always treasure them. It has now been 3yrs since Andrew's passing and I still stay in contact with his wonderful parents over there in England. I'm sure that my pal Andrew is looking down on us at this very time from Heaven. http://www.transplantsunited.com/

Micky Byrne(Heart transplant)-UK

I'm sure that you will enjoy my pal Micky's heart story. I first met him on the Internet around the time that I met Andrew Wilson. Micky was born in Singapore and has lived in England since his early teen years. He has quite a amazing medical history prior to his heart transplant in 1999. Starting at the age of 13yrs old, Micky contracted Rheumatic fever that lasted for several years. He rec'd triple-bypass heart surgery in 1983, removal of a brain tumor in1993 and another heart surgery consisting of quadruple bypass in 1996, followed by his complete heart transplant in March 1999. Micky and I have become very close friends these past 5 years, almost like brothers. He is very talented with his steel guitar, and now performs with various C/W bands there in England. Micky was Blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and I'm sure that this has helped him tremendously through all of his medical problems. Laughter is mentioned in the Bible "Prov: 17:22 : A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a downcast spirit dries up the bones."

Oakley Williams(Heart transplant)-Texas

While I was in St Lukes Hospital during the time of my post heart transplant in January 1991, I was requested by one of the Transplant Coordinators to walk down to room #1022 early one morning to offer my assistance & personal support to a young 18yr old African American boy named Oakley Williams. A heart donor had been located for him and he had become very fearful of his upcoming transplant. When I entered his room, he was curled up in a fetal position on his hospital bed and was very scared. His Mom & Grandmother were also in the room plus several nurses. I carried on a gentle conversation with him for almost 2hrs and finally convinced him to "Go for It !!". I then turned to his Mom and asked her to come to my room as soon as the surgical team came for Oakley. She did and I walked to the elevator, leaned down to give Oakley a gentle hug and explained to him that I would see him again in ICU just a short time post transplant. His heart transplant was very successful and he lived for many more years, even went to Jr College in Alabama. I spoke with him on the phone several years later. Here's the very sad part of this story. I just this moment Wednesday Dec 17th 2008, called St Lukes to schedule my 18th year Annual Exam and my Transplant Coordinator informed me that my pal Oakley Williams had recently passed away. The whole Transplant Team including transplant surgeon Dr "Bud" Frazier credited me for my intervention in this situation involving Oakley's transplant. Even though Oakley is now deceased, he had some wonderful added years because of a wonderful organ donor.

Guy(Buddy)Hickey/daughter(Heart transplant)-Canada

I have never met this wonderful ol' gentleman face-to-face. I read his heart story in a online newspaper article and felt that I wanted to correspond with him, so I proceeded to contact the newspaper reporter(VIA email and phone call) who wrote his story. Luckily the reporter placed me in contact with his daughter Joyce. Joyce's father Buddy is 78yrs old and rec'd his heart transplant 20yrs ago there in Canada. Joyce and her family are now in the process of teaching Buddy to be computer savvy so that I can correspond with Buddy directly VIA emails. Buddy is no different than I was up until 5yrs ago. I knew nothing about computers and the joy of corresponding VIA emails. We share that "Old Fashion" trait. Buddy's daughter Joyce has been kind enough to share her many memories and photos of her dear ol' Dad with me for the past several months. Buddy Hickey's heart transplant story is a miraculous journey to read about. http://dailygleaner.canadaeast.com/rss/article/358090 I even sent a request to one of my British heart pals John Fisher, to post Buddy's story on his website "To Transplant and Beyond" and John immediately posted it. http://www.heart-transplant.co.uk/buddy.html John Fisher has been a wonderful friend these past few years.

I want to share with you, I met with several of my ol' Safeway trucking buddies this afternoon at Larry's Bar-B-Que on N'West Frwy near Campbell Rd. Had a wonderful time reminiscing about the days gone by. We were all just young fellows when we first started trucking together back in the early '70s. Just a few in this attached pic.............. Billy Christopher in rear of pic, has one of those classic Safeway jackets on. These six drivers sitting at this table, have a total accumumulation over-the-road mileage of approximately 20 million miles. Surprisingly, all of these drivers signed Organ Donation cards shortly after my heart transplant. Gulf Coast Blood Donation http://www.giveblood.org/ busses were brought to our warehouse area twice per year and almost all of the 85 drivers took the time to donate.

60 of our fellow drivers have passed away since 1974, due to various reasons and are greatly missed.

Turn up your speakers and enjoy. An amazing rendition of Amazing Grace, performed in The Coliseum in Rome, by Il Divo, an operatic quartet consisting of an American Tenor (David Miller, first soloist), Spanish Baritone (Carlos Marin),Swiss Tenor (Urs Buhler), and French Pop Artist (Sebastian Izambard).....Truly a spiritually moving masterpiece. I hope you enjoy it as much as I.

I might have already mentioned this about my young heart transplant pal Andrew Wilson of England, being laid to rest after his death in 2005, wearing a Organ Donation tee-shirt that I had sent to him prior to his death. See message from his parents below.......

**********************

We have never told you about Andrews funeral service ,it was a complete tribute to Andrews life. All his friends were mentioned and there was a special tribute to you Bob from the vicar on how much you meant to Andrew. We had three of his own songs sung by two young female singers, and they went down very well.At the end of the service everybody in church applauded Andrew as he left the church. We decided it was fitting for Andrew to go to God wearing the t-shirt you sent him, with the praying child so they would all see it in HEAVEN.

*************************

I will soon be sending this lit'l Teddy Bear(in attachments) to Andrew's parents on the 4th anniversary of his death July 7th. This lit'l Teddy Bear is wearing a tee-shirt just like the one that Andrew was wearing. Andrew's parents Bryan & Sue are aware of this and say they will place this lit'l Teddy Bear near one of Andrew's favorite stuffed toys from childhood in his bedroom which is still left intact since his death 4yrs ago.

Andrew's Mum & Dad are wonderful folks and I still truly enjoy corresponding with them VIA emails and phone calls.

My transplant pals and their parents/donor families are very special to me.

Shortly after Andrew's death July 7th 2005, his parents discovered a beautiful poem on his desk near his computer, a poem which I had sent to him prior to his death. I had always loved this poem "Clock of Life" and had simply shared it with my heart pal Andrew. Not knowing where the poem came from, Andrew's parents had it inscribed on his headstone.

I later rec'd this message from Andrew's parents Bryan & Sue:
We are totally amazed that the poem we chose for Andrews headstone was the same one that you posted on Transplantbuddies website back in February 2005 .We found that poem on Andrews note pad that he kept on his desk,we liked it so much that we decided to have it inscribed on his headstone. We never knew were he found that poem, until today.Everybody that has read the poem have commented on how fitting the verse was.Still can't believe that it originally came from you,Bob.

THE UNTOLD STORY OF ONE OF THE GREATEST RESCUES IN HISTORY

I'm sure that you like to read good books. If you can find the time, please purchase a book entitled "All The Men In The Sea" written by Michael Krieger. My son-in-law Chuck Allday almost lost his life in a huge storm in the Gulf of Mexico in 1995 whilst working on a oil field barge that was sank to the bottom of the Gulf waters during that storm. 245 men were aboard that barge and many lost their lives. Chuck's name is mentioned in the book a few times.

A movie is actually planned for this story. See attached pic of Chuck and my grandson Trent. Chuck took a 3yr furlough from work because he was mentally drained from this experience. He is now working back out there on the Gulf once more.

This is a very exciting book and will truly hold your attention all the way through it.

My son-in-lawChuck just returned back home yesterday after 30 days out on the Gulf. He will be home for 30 days then return back to work again for another month. (30 days out and 30 days in) Tour of Duty.

Have attached a few pics, regarding Chuck and Cindy's lakefront property on Lake Limestone.

#1- Darlene and me with a beautiful sunset whilst on the fishing pier.

#2- Chuck admiring his just completed bulkhead that he built all alone all around the edge of the water.

Yes, I still smoke. Shame on me !!
Job well done !!

I do take time occasionally away from my computer to do a lit'l guitar pickin'.

This pic was made at a Safeway drivers' reunion recently. Many of us were just in our mid 30's when we first met back in 1974. It was fantastic seeing ol' trucker pals after all of those years gone by. Many have passed on the be with The Lord.

Praying for rain here in S'E' Texas.....

My wife and I were sitting on our front porch deck this evening around 9pm watching the lighting strikes in the sky and listening to the distant thunder, hoping for badly needed rain. We could hear many frogs in the distance croaking and singing in unison.

I decided to research this situation on the 'Net and discovered the following:

If many signs happen at the same time that indicate rain is on the way, it probably is.

If ants their walls do frequent build, rain will from the clouds be spilled.
When spiders weave their webs by noon, fine weather is coming soon.
The gnats bite and I scratch in vain, because they know it is going to rain.
If bees stay at home, rain will soon come; if they fly away, fine will be the day.
Insects flying in numbers just at evening show weather changing to rain.
Fireflies fly very low before a rain.
When cockroaches fly, rain will drop by.
The locust sings when it is to be hot and clear.
A robin in a bush means rain.
When swans fly against the wind, rain is coming.
Swallows fly high: clear blue sky; swallows fly low: rain shall know.
If eels are very lively, it is a sign of rain.
If fowls roll in the sand, rain is at hand.
Frogs croak before a rain, but in sun stay quiet again.
If many earthworms appear, rain will follow.
Fish bite the least, with wind in the east. (A thunder storm is approaching)
Salt becomes damp before rain.
When cattle lie down during a light rain, it will soon pass.
When cattle are on hilltops, fine weather is coming.
When cattle stand with their backs to the wind, rain is coming.
Goats leave high ground and seek shelter before a storm.
When pigs carry hay or straw in their mouths, there will be rain or wind.
When the donkey blows his horn, 'tis time to house your corn.
When a cat sneezes, it is a sign of rain.
If flowers stay open all night, the weather will be wet the next day.
When the leaves of trees curl during a south wind, it will rain.
Seaweed dry, sunny sky; seaweed wet, rain you'll get.
If watercress beds steam on a summer evening, the next day will be hot.
When sunflowers raise their heads, it is a sign of rain.
Pondweed sinks before a storm.

9:45pm and no rain as yet, darn it !!
Six days of triple digit temperatures is quite unbearable and we all here in S'E' Texas need a change in the weather.

Up close and personal with Ol' Bob......

Since I am fully retired from trucking since my transplant, I spend many hours on my porch deck when the weather allows.

Contrary to what's been jokingly discussed on this site in the past, I actually do take a walk from time to time, otherwise my sweetie Dalene and I have our morning coffee out here almost every morning very early.

I much prefer to be a homebody, staying close to home after all of those years of trucking over-the-road, plus I prefer to steer clear of large crowds due to my immune system. You are all aware of this danger, I'm sure.

Most birds have their favorite perch____________this is simply this ol' bird's perch, by golly.

Everyone has their own preference while being on their computers but this is Ol' Bob's favorite way of spending a few hours on his 'puter:

I most always pull this steel guitar link up and use it for continuous steel music in the background whilst I'm surfing the 'Net and taking care of my emails
http://steelguitar.ning.com/ I simply click onto the (-) minimize button on the upper right of my 'puter screen after I open this link for continuous music. Great music!!!

I started doing this shortly after I met my steel playing heart transplant pal Micky Byrne of England VIA emails and phone calls. Wow, he's great !!

Over 2yrs ago during my 67th Birthday celebration, I rec'd this greeting from a dear friend Rob in England VIA email.

This thrilled me more than any gift that I rec'd at my Birthday party.

Rob is now over there in England, suffering a severe medical setback. Please add my friend Rob to your prayer lists. Thank you

Dad to the rescue !!

Thanks to the undying close friendship with my dear friend Gene T, he and his dear wife Kathy volunteered to join my wife Dalene on a 85 mile drive to central Texas, to assist me in replacing my daughter Cindy's worn out hot water heater. Cindy's hubby Chuck is out on the Gulf of Mexico at this time working in the Oil Field Industry and Cindy needed some help with this hot water heater. I know how women feel about hot baths an clean hair.

Below you will see Cindy, Darlene and Kathy, sitting there visiting whilst Gene and I were installing the water heater. They had a wonderful visit.

Upon completion of the heater installation around 10:30pm, we all shared in a late night snack of fried chicken, mashed tators/gravy, cole slaw and fried okra before heading back home to Magnolia.

Cindy was so ecstatic about her HOT bath, she called us on the cell phone before we arrived in Magnolia, to offer her thanks.

Darlene and I went down to the Family Diner this afternoon to meet with a long tyme trucker pal of mine, Dennis Powell. Had not seen him in several years. I was truly saddened to see the condition that his health is in. He has severe breathing difficulty with oxygen with him at all times. He walks with the assistance of 2 crutches and weighs over 380 pounds. We first met in 1977.

Safeway retired drivers casual meeting back in 2003. My dear friend Dennis can be seen on the far left of photo.(Gray & Maroon shirt). Please pray for my pal.

Thank you Karen & Risa,

I am referring to attached a pic above of some retired Safeway truck drivers taken back in 2003. I visited yesterday with one of them Dennis Powell(left side of photo). This is so very sad to see him in this condition. We first met in 1977. We trucked together for more than 12yrs at Safeway over-the-road.

My other pal Gene P can be seen on the right side of photo. He was our trucking dispatcher and is now fully retired with severe medical problems also. His bladder was removed and now he urinates thru a tube in his side. We all seem to be falling apart, by golly.

Shirley(standing beside me in photo) was one of our female truckers. Sixty Safeway drivers have passed away since 1975 and I personally knew everyone of them. You will have to pardon me, as I'm feeling a bit blue since my visit with Dennis yesterday. I leaned over into his pick/up truck as he was leaving yesterday and gave him a big ol' bear-hug, almost tearing up as I did this.

Never take your good health for granted !!

Bob:

Goodness, I am sorry that many of your Safeway friends have passed away. You are so right about not taking your health for granted.

I am sure that it is very hard to see your friends struggling with their health. My parents are 72 years old and it has been hard for them to watch some of their friends pass away or become debilitated by disease. I thank God everyday that my parents have been fairly healthy. My Dad had a triple bypass two years ago, but has recovered fully and is still playing 18 holes of golf like a 50 yr. old. My Mom has not had anything serious and keeps busy with her friends and lots of volunteering. I do believe that taking care of yourself is a big step in living a long life. They have always eaten healthy, laughed a lot, had a lot of faith, and loved with abandon.

That's how I see you Bob. You take care of yourself, you love, you laugh, and you have a lot of faith. I know it's hard to see your friends that way, but you have set a great example for so many people. I think the way you give back is a huge reason you are so healthy. You have a purpose and a heart as big as Texas!!!!!

God Bless!

Ladies,

This is my philosophy and I totally stand by it on a daily basis.

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me – I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved…with this heart transplant of mine, by golly...living & loving it, though…stay HAPPY & don't let negative people pull you down. When you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours. Happiness seems to rub off on others…Laugh & roll with the flow. Being POSITIVE is not an impossible task…TRY IT-YOU'LL LIKE IT!!

Hi Happy

You are so correct when you say "some people try to turn back their odometers. " That is a great saying. What do you mean by that?
Plastic surgery? Exercise? I must say I am smiling now with your comment. :-)

In some way, vanity has kept me on my toes. I want to look younger than I am. I guess that is part of being a woman.

Loved What Karen said to you.

"What do you mean by that? "

Risa, I can understand folks wanting to look younger but many do this when it appears too obvious, to the point it's very comical at times.

The point that I'm trying to convey with my quote "Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me – I want people to know why I look this way", I'm very proud of my gray hair, my facial wrinkles, and my surgical scars.

Meagan, I might be almost 70yrs old but I still feel like a very young man in my mind and heart. I actually forget to ask for my "Senior Citizen Discount" in places of business at times, by golly. :o{)

Hey Bob,

I agree with Meagan....you do have a wonderful attitude about life. It makes me feel like running out and buying a bikini to show off my scar. Lucky for me (or maybe for every one else...LOL) winter is nearly upon us and the bikini's are off the racks now.

You do know so many people who have had Transplants. Keep up the inspiration.

Bob,

I am really with you when you say " I still feel like a very young man in my mind and heart" (except for the fact I am a "young" lady) . I sometimes have to remind myself of my age. When I think of my age I say "Hey, that can't be right". I don't feel that old in my mind, but maybe the body does at times. I say you are as old as you feel and I feel young. If you go by the age of my organs I am not even two years old yet. I'm still a toddler.

As for your Senior Citizen Discount, my Mom, who is now deceased, could not wait to become a senior so she could get her freebies and discounts. Nick is older than me so he will qualify before me. He can't wait either.

Diane,

Dr. Ross told me I would look like a road map after my surgery and she was right. Add to that two C-sections and you can now call me the World atlas. They did not use the bikini cut back in those days.

I was greatly surprised this morn when I rec'd a unexpected message on FaceBook from a young lady that I haven't seen or spoken to in over 15yrs. As a favor to her working Mom, I once transported this young lady to Gymnastic practices back in the mid '90s. She was only 11yrs old at that time and had been awarded many Gold Medals. Wedding photo

Rachel is now married and has 2 beautiful daughters. Rachel's Mom lost her battle with cancer in 1997.

Being a heart recipient doesn't seem to hold me back at all. I teamed up with a very close friend today to assist him in replacing a window in his 2 story rental apartment next door to his home,

I jokingly told my pal Gene, that if I was capable of driving those big ol' 80,000 pound 18-wheelers years ago, I could certainly drive his lit'l red tractor. <chuckle>

Had a very enjoyable afternoon, by golly.

No, Gene's wife Kathy snapped the pic. Whilst climbing up the scaffold, I probably heard this warning 20 or more times...."Be careful, Bob !!"

I am a wee bit sore this morning after all of that activity yesterday but it felt great to be productive again, by golly. We had just completed building this deck cover for Gene a few weeks ago.

Yep, Karen, if something would have happened to me, they would have blamed my pal Gene, for working me too hard. LOL

I have noticed that many others mention their gandkids on their Blogs. Here's one of my sweet lit'l grandkids Alyssa, not too happy about her very first time on a boat.....
Before

After her first ride around the lake, she began to like it..... After

She dearly loves going to the lake now.

Bob,

Alyssa is so adorable. What a coincidence - both of our granddaughters are named Alyssa. This reminds me of when we took the boys on a boat for the first time. Mind you their mother wasn't much help as she was also terrified ... hehehe. Nick had his hands full that day.

Bob:

Alyssa is beautiful! She sure looked like she was having a lot more fun in the last picture. I guess boating is something that you have to get used to!! :-)

I lived just 2 miles from this beautiful dam up there on Lake Whitney for several years back in the mid '90s. This lake is maintained by the Corps of Engineers & The Brazos River Authority.

This beautiful lake is located 30 miles N'W' of Waco Texas.

Regretfully, I needed to move back to the Houston Texas area to be nearer my Transplant Center.

Jeff, you would truly love fishing this lake in the path of the Brazos River. http://www.lake-whitney.net/

"Lake Whitney is located on the Brazos River. Brazos de Dios means "in the arms of God." Lake Whitney is a large lake with 225 miles of shoreline and 37 square miles of coverage. Lake Whitney is 45 river miles long and is up to four miles wide at the widest point".

For a lit'l added touch on my Blog....

This is the main reason that I no longer go "Trick or Treating" anymore. " I keep having to go home to pee."

I most usually carry a hospital urinal with me.

Happy Halloween to all....

Childhood Memories:

Valley Transit Bus Co (VTC) Bus Stop signs painted on hi-line utility poles up and down the hiways in the Valley were painted by me back in 1953 and '54. My Dad, a VTC bus driver assisted me in attaining my very first paying job, painting VTC Bus Stop signs on poles all over the Valley. I carried white paint, brushes and stencils with me as I hopped from one bus to another between poles.

I felt a bit naughty one day half way between La Feria and Harlingen(old Hiway #83) and painted my initials on a cement canal bank bulkhead near the hiway. I painted in huge letters B.L.P.. This stayed in view of the public for many, many years.

VTC bus drivers went on Strike in 1954 and I lost my first paying job, dang it !!

Footnote:Now that I've had time to reflect back on this, it brings to mind the ol' phrase "Fools Names and Fools' Faces Always Appear in Public Places"
