Friends Gene, Kathy, Jeri, my sweetie Darlene and myself were sitting down at the Magnolia Diner over a year ago and I sketched this attached paper napkin for Gene, his last name is Tatum. We always sit at table #70. I had forgotten that I had sketched that pic and last night Gene brought it out of his pocket. Folks are always keeping my sketches done on paper napkins, taking them home, placing them in frames and hanging them around their homes. I donated one of my better sketches to our local Constable, David Hill, for his Fish-Fry Benefit auction and it auctioned off for $250. I have been told by many, to charge $$$ for my sketches, but I just can't seem to do that. I only sketch to see the smiles on others' faces.

This ol' gentleman in this clip, Smokey Stover http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsRNUqPpk44 performed on the Texas Opry Jamboree back when I was a regular in the late '80s. He once borrowed my Gibson guitar(pictured below) because he broke 2 strings and didn't have the time to restring before going onstage. He was inducted into the DJ's Hall of Fame many years ago. Smokey passed away several years ago here in Magnolia. He performed onstage at the famous Louisiana Hayride back in the late '50s. Smokey composed many, many C/W songs over his long career. Sharon, no, this Opry is in Magnolia Texas. Here's more info about my ol' pal Smokey Stover.

Hal Willis and his close friend Smokey Stover (inducted into the DJ Hall of Fame 2000) in front of radio station WYXE in Gallatin Tennessee.

Smokey was a wonderful ol' fellow.

Here's several more pics of me onstage at the Opry.

I don't perform there anymore but I still attend their Saturday nite shows. We will attend a show there Saturday evening featuring a Elvis impersonator.

Sharon, you can read info about this great show by typing Texas Opry Jamboree into your 'puter search mode, lit'l lady.

One of my wonderful heart transplant pals Gaea Shaw will be speaking at the Longmont Library Thursday April 2nd_ 7pm in Longmont Colorado.

Before her life-saving heart transplant, Gaea Shaw was unable to walk up the block; nine months later she competed in the Transplant Olympics, taking gold in the 50 and 500-meter freestyle. Her book, Dying to Live: From Heart Transplant to Abundant Life is about experiencing abundant life, filled with gratitude despite the challenges we face.

I am very proud to call this lit'l lady my friend.

Along about the latter part of March through a few weeks into April, we can look forward to these beautiful patches of Texas Bluebonnets up and down the sides of our roadways. This creates a beautiful background for pics such as my lit'l niece 'Kenzie here.

With the economy being in very sad shape these days, I have discovered a very inexpensive means of living down here in S'E' Texas. $345 monthly, all utilities included in monthly rent.

This cost of living allows me more relief in paying for my medical costs since my heart transplant and all of my anti-rejection meds required.

This is a perfect solution for a ol' retired over-the-road trucker. Our lit'l castle is nestled in a beautiful RV Park called "Rambling Vines RV Park". http://www.campingfriend.com/RamblingVinesRVPark/default.asp?file=Facilities

"Chip off the ol' block"

This is my son Ronnie in his football uniform when he played Lit'l League football over 35yrs ago.

This is a recent pic of my son Ronnie with his dear wife Traci and their youngest son Trent.

Trent is now heavily involved in Lit'l League baseball.

I am quite concerned about my son Ronnie because he is subject to our family hereditary heart condition. He has decided to be checked out by a Cardiologist periodically. He is now 48yrs old. I was 45yrs old when I experienced my very first heart attack.

Organ Donation was mentioned by the announcer of the show, after I requested it.

I was so very proud to receive my 2nd lease on life with my badly needed heart transplant back in 1991, I went down to a tee-shirt shop and ordered several tee-shirts like this one in the pic.

On the back of this shirt, was printed "See !! Organ Transplants do work !!
Organ transplants were not as plentiful then as they are now and I rec'd many surprised looks in public by various people. I still have one of those tee-shirts although it's quite ragged now.

April 8th 1949

Remembering a tragedy:

Birth: Aug. 21, 1945
Death: Apr. 8, 1949

Three year old Kathy Fiscus fell into an abandoned well while playing in a field in San Marino, California. Thousands of people sat transfixed in front of their television sets as frantic volunteers tried to reach the child trapped nearly 100 feet down in a fourteen inch pipe. After 52 hours, they finally reached her only to find that she had apparently died early in the rescue efforts. This event introduced a new dimension to news coverage -- live, onsite television broadcasting. "Kathy Fiscus Laws" were enacted across the country, requiring the capping and filling in of abandoned wells. The old well that claimed her life has long since been filled in. There is no trace of it on what is now an athletic field at San Marino High School. Her Marker bears the inscription, "A Little Girl Who Brought the World Together".

Cause of death: suffocation as a result of a fall into a well

My sweetie Darlene experienced a very frightening event yesterday. She included one of our dear friend Ray Moon's laundry in with ours and went to the local Laundromat. When she returned to Ray's home, knocked on the door several times very loudly, shouted through the open front door which was slightly open, whilst the house dogs were steadily barking. She even called his home number on her cell phone. NO ANSWER, at all. She began to worry because Ray is in the 4th stage of terminal cancer and very near death. His wife Bonnie passed away several months ago here in Magnolia. Darlene then made a phone call to me explaining that Ray wouldn't answer the knocks at his door. She was truly beginning to get quite nervous for fear of discovering him dead in his home. I immediately placed a phone call to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. They in turn dispatched a Deputy to Ray's residence to meet with Darlene and to check on Ray. They discovered Ray fast asleep in his reclining chair. He had taken sleeping med to help him sleep and was difficult to awaken. Everything turned out just fine in the end. I even jumped in my car and drove the 6 miles over to Ray's home to meet Darlene. She was sittin' there talking to Ray when I arrived. We were concerned because our friend Ray just has a limited time to live due to his cancer even though he is taking Chemo' treatments. We have lost 5 local friends lately due to various medical reasons. Ray Moon is a decorated Viet Nam vet and walks on crutches. Wonderful man !!!

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo http://www.hlsr.com/ has just completed their yearly show March 2nd thru 21st. Approximately 70,000+ folks attend the show each day, many riding in the annual Trailrides into Houston from all directions.

These working class folks on the horses and in the wagons, take a few days off their regular employment to join these trailrides. A huge parade is held in downtown Houston just prior to the opening of the Houston Livestock & Rodeo show.

Gene Autry with his magnificent horse, Champion, rode into the Houston Rodeo arena and into the hearts of Houstonians when he appeared as the Show's first big name star entertainer in 1942.This larger than life cowboy hero set a high standard for future Houston Rodeo entertainers. He also worked behind the scenes, producing the Houston Rodeo for many of its early years.

Just thought you might enjoy this.

When you are a friend of ol' Bob Pitcock, you are a dear friend for life, such as the wonderful guy in the attached pic, A.D.Carter. I first met A.D. in 1965. We were both Dock Foremen at East Texas Motor Freight (ETMF) here in Houston. I was just 25yrs old at that time. As the years went by, we completely lost contact with each other. A.D. moved away to California. His dear wife Betty passed away during those years. Several years ago, I rec'd a surprise phone call from my ol' pal A.D. His daughter had located my home phone number somehow. I was truly thrilled, by golly. A few months later, A.D. had to fly to Texas to attend a funeral for a friend in Athens. I drove up to Athens to meet him for the first time in more than 35yrs. This is when the attached pic was made at a restaurant up there. A.D. remarried and now lives in Athens Texas. We have stayed in contact ever since he moved back to Texas from California. I had a long conversation with him just this morning. He told me that he is now 79yrs old. My friendship with A.D. is very special to me. I hope to visit with him very soon there in Athens. I'm gonna' give him a big ol' bear-hug when we meet face-to-face again, by golly. He was my mentor in my earlier days.

You probably already know but I personally sketched that lit'l praying boy on my organ donation tee-shirts. If you look really close, you will see my name....BOB P......near the lit'l boy's knee in the sketch. This was a joint venture, as my sweetie Darlene helped to make the lettering in the logo. We ordered a few items off my online Cafe Press store. Darlene loves that lit'l wall clock and the white Teddy Bear/with the organ donor tee-shirt. One of my Canadian pals Joyce purchased a cap and a mug. Joyce's dad Buddy Hickey rec'd a heart transplant over 20yrs ago there in Canada. 7:15pm and Darlene is in the kitchen making her famous potato salad for her "Hen Party" tomorrow night. She meets once per month with several other ladies to play Keno & Bunko at each others' homes. MMMMM!!! I love her 'tator salad, by golly.

The owner of our "Rambling Vines" RV Park did a favor for me. He moved the gravel driveway farther away from our trailer, allowing for a bigger front yard. Hooray!!! His name is Earl but I always refer to him as "Uncle Earl". He calls me "Uncle Bob". All we need to do, is get some dang grass growing now.

Darlene and I attended a "Demolition Derby" this evening just outside of Magnolia Texas.

This event was held right out in the middle of a huge cow pasture(dirt surface with grandstands surrounding the arena) with hundreds of spectators in attendance. A portion of the event even featured female drivers referred to as the "Powder-Puff Derby". The lit'l ladies put on quite a show, by golly.

If you have never seen one of these events, as many as 10 to 15 old junked up cars crash into each other at very slow speeds and the very last car moving on its' own power......Wins.

Hey Bob,

Demo derbies are certainly a hoot. They used to have them all the time at the old Louisville Motor Speed Way. I once took my boy scout troop when they had a demolition derby with old school buses. Now that was something to see!

Hope you're having a great day!

I can remember back to 1952 in my San Benito Texas Elementary School days and my very first "Puppy Love" when I was just 12yrs old. My young love, Janet was just 11yrs old at that time. Janet can be seen in front of these lit'l ladies with her baton. 1952

After my family moved away from San Benito, Janet went on to another city in Texas to become a very lovely and popular High School "Drum Majorette" with that High School band.

After being apart for more than 54yrs, going our separate ways in life, we were fortunate enough to contact each other once again. Along with another ol' 1952 classmate Bobby Beddoe, we met for lunch a few times at a local restaurant "Magnolia Diner" here in Magnolia Texas, the city that I now live in. 2006

I then discovered that Janet was a 7yr survivor of a double-lung transplant. This is what I found so ironic about this reunion after 54yrs, I was a heart transplant recipient and my very first "Puppy Love" was also a lung transplant recipient. WOW!!!!

I sadly have to end this fantastic story with the news that sweet Janet passed away shortly after our Reunion in 2006, due to Diebetic complications. My close friend Bobby Beddoe and I attended her funeral memorial where 40 pink balloons were sent Heaven bound in her honor, since pink was her most favorite color.

Oct 2006

Ol' Bob

P.S. My ol' friend Bobby Beddoe is now a published novelist under the name Robert Beddoe.

Another pic of the funeral memorial for our dear friend Janet. Bobby and I can be seen in center of pic, me with a black shirt and Bobby with the tan jacket.

Yes Risa, we were truly enjoying reminscing about the good ol' days of our childhood. Bobby now lives near Austin Texas and we still stay in contact quite often. He is a wonderful friend.

If you will look very closely to that pic of Bobby and myself at the Diner, you will see that cute lit'l pink cap that Janet had on in that other pic above at our reunion. Bobby gave this cap and other items to me as tokens of our close friendship with our dear freind Janet. She dearly loved the color of pink, as you can see by the display at her funeral service. (in the next post below).

I'm just spreading them out, Heather. Risa has stated that each Blog will only allow around 100 posts. I just simply love to share my life with others because my life is a "Open Book" with nothing held back. I can only hope that other folks enjoy my various comments and the wonderful events that have happened in my life, 'specially after my heart transplant over 18yrs ago.

God has Blessed me with a wonderful gift of gab and I just simply gab on this lit'l 'puter keyboard, by golly. It seems as though some folks are a wee bit bashful about posting comments, so I'm just making up the difference.

I am quite honored when I start a thread and 71 people reply within a total of 8 days time such as this one. http://www.transplantbuddies.org/tbx/messages/3/53775.html?1244162440 I always try my best to post something of interest for our visitors and members.

I have certainly been Blessed with a wonderful life and I just feel compelled to share with others. OK?

Love ya'

Thanks Bob! for posting this pic.

July 1st was also very special to us because that was Dad's birthday as well! We always had a double celebration. Yesterday was our first Canada Day without Dad.

We miss him so much, but will always be eternally grateful for the extra 20 + years we had with him, thanks to a 17 year old boy whose heart he received. Without that amazing gift of life, Dad (Buddy) would have never known his great grandchildren posted above.

From all of us up here in Canada, we wish all of you folks a very Happy Independence Day this coming Saturday!

And bless all organ donors and their families!!

For some strange unknown reason, I find myself sitting here this morning remembering back on my emergency visit to the hospital back in the earlier part of this year. This was quite traumatic for me and my loved ones, not knowing whether I would live or not.

.....looking at these pics with my loved ones by my side whilst "The Grim Reaper" was knockin' at my door.

By the Grace of God and these many, many prayers from my friends worldwide http://www.transplantbuddies.org/tbx/messages/28848/34287.html?1247512461 .....including the many, many "E-Card" messages of well wishes sent c/o the hospital in my behalf, my life was spared.

There's absolutely no doubt in my mind and heart, there's much in prayers.

Love all of you

I am truly close to my 4 sisters, Bea, Bernice, Louise and Judy. Judy is the silly one with a helluva sense of humor. Have attached a pic of she and I at Graceland Mansion in Memphis back in 1992 and another pic of us on the dance floor.

Just to celebrate my heart transplant in Jan '91, I treated Judy and 2 of her lady friends to a trip to Elvis's Graceland Mansion in Memphis and The Grand Ol Opry in Nashville. I even rented a classy Lincoln Continental for the trip. Had to save money for a whole year for that holiday.

Would you believe, Judy is a Great Grandmother now?

Almost 70yrs old and out there today "Poppin' Wheelies" on my son-in-law Chuck's 4-wheeler. Had a wonderful time riding around his 28 acres out in the country. We spotted a few deer back in the woods.

.....even had my sweetie Darlene out there enjoying with me, by golly.

Thanks to my wonderful heart donor, I can still enjoy my life to the fullest.

I truly always enjoy myself when Darlene and I go for a visit with my daughter Cindy and her hubby Chuck. See their pic here: ...both are almost 50yrs old

I was very surprised to learn, they own 4 ATV 4-wheelers and 2 dirt bikes. Chuck loves his "Men's Toys", by golly.
