Hello everyone, well its getting down to brass tacks now as I move closer and closer to transplant. I have somewhat of a dilema now. This involves a few stories so I'll try and give the abridged version of each.
caregiver 1 : brother had a heart attack while I was being eval'ed,so He's out of the picture
caregiver 2 : Mom older and would be good for Me,however, I also need someone to watch over my house while away.
caregiver 3 : Son is the reason I need to leave mom watching over things. If I take him with me I can sort of keep an eye on him . problem is I don't know if He will be with me all the time .... I'm not exactly sure yet myself so any input would be great..PS. brother now lives out of town and would be unable to actively participate anyway

Hi Dennis,

How far away is your Transplant Centre from your home?

Although this might be somewhat harder for you, would it be possible to have a few friends come and stay with you for a week or so at a time. Or to set up a calendar to see who might be able to stay with you at what time.

I hope that it all goes smoothly for you.

Hi Net Force

I am a bit confused. How old is your son? Do you have any neighbors who you trust?

OK let Me clear this up abit for everyone. My son is 19. I cant really trust Him.
By that I mean he likes to "barrow" things that arent his.
I have people that can watch My house and car while Im away.
Who ever I take with Me.
I live in West Virginia but My transplant center is in Wisconson, why? you ask ? because I'm A vet and the VA only uses UWMC for lung transplants

Dennis:

I like Diane's suggestion, but maybe your friends could stay at your house and your Mom could go with you. There is nothing like having your Mom around when you are going through something as big as a transplant. My parents are older too (both 72). They did just fine and were a big support to me and my husband. They were even able to take our 5 1/2 yr. old son home and watch him at our house for a week until we got back home. Just a suggestion.

God Bless!

What Diane and Rise' have suggested I second both. You shouldn't have to worry about his and if all is setup before you'll do fine. Just curious and you haven't mentioned anything, do you have a pet that needs watching?

I wish you well and keep us posted. From what I've been told, many VA hospitals are excellent. I'm sure you have one of them!
