Hey Ya'll, My husband (pre liver tx) has been feeling a bit depressed lately b/c he hasn't been able to ride his motorcycle (he had to quit riding/driving a few months ago). I think he feels that he will never be able to ride again which makes us both sad to think about since we enjoy it so much. Have any of you post transplant people been able to return to riding or enjoying those types of activities? It would give him something to look forward to if you could tell us about it. Thanks! Thanks! |

Hi Lindy, Please tell your husband not to give up. I too was very discouraged and thought that I would never get back to my passion of being on the ocean in my kayak. I am 10 months post liver tx and also had a lot of pain from a car accident. In Aug this year I finally had an upsurge in energy, and my pain is much better managed. In Sept I was able to get back out on the water. It was exhilarating!! Life is sweet post transplant. Hang in there both of you, and wishing you the best. I have tried to upload a photo, but have not mastered the technique yet. Sorry, I have spent 45 minutes trying to upload the photo but I think it is too big and I am unable to post the message.

The picture of Diane on her kayak is so cool I just had to jpeg it so everyone can see it. Can you imagine how close to the beauty of nature this is!!! Having a pod of orcas pass by would be fantastic! When I move to the Pacific Northwest I am definitely getting a kayak! Love, Kelli

Hi Kelli, Thanks for doing this. I think I may have to drive on down to see you for some computer lessons. And if you come up here.......we will definitely go out kayaking. Lindy, it would be very cool to see a photo of you and your husband on your motorcycle. We rented them when we were travelling in Vietnam, but that is the only time I have been on one and I loved it. We'll hold the energy that you will get back to it.

Thanks for the posts. I don't have any photos of the two of us on the bike (cuz I'm always the one taking them) but I can put one up of him on it. I'll try to do that tonight. The bike is a Harley Electroglide Classic (I think). It's a big touring bike. He bought it in 2005, just 2 years before being diagnosed. Our last really good ride was in November of last year. I discovered that I could take photos from the back of the bike while moving. I took over 150 pictures that day. We rode out to PA on a gorgeous Fall day. We were gone about 10 hours. I almost didn't go that day because I had so much to do at home. I am so glad that I went. Housework can wait! I know he misses riding even more than I do. We both look forward to being able to ride again someday. |

hmmm....any way you could drive and let him be the "fender fluff" for a change? Or any way he could ride if a trike conversion?side car? I have even seen a wheelchair bike-looked like a "chariot" from ben-hur,the chair was on a platform and the driver controlled it all with hand controls! I'm sure any conversion would be expensive and he may not want to alter the bike, it would certainly not be "the same" (I know how boys can be about their toys!!!), but may be better than nothin until he can go back "on the horse" after transplant???? Good luck finding something to keep him positive! Becky
