I would like to share our goals and track our progress on this thread. For those who are interested in taking part in our goal planning here, please pick your own sub thread and record your achievements that you make along the way. I think it would be best to state your goal as the title of your sub thread. For example, if your goal is to lose weight, you can title your thread, *your name* weight loss goal. Let us choose a target date of three months from today and then set another goal to accomplish. I can then create another sub thread within your current thread. This will be a one of a kind thread never before seen on buddies. xoxo Rise' Ps. Check out my sub thread above.

Sorry to hear that nobody has any goals they want to achieve. If you have one goal that you do not want to share, just state that your goal is private. I find that when you post your goal either on paper or share it with a close friend or our community this will keep your mind focused on achieving your goal(s)

Good morning Rise, I'm sure that most folks have goals to achieve, I cannot say why more folks have not responded to your thread, could possibly be (similar to the survey I've been running on returning to work) that although many question these things, fewer will take the time to respond. Myself, I set new goals almost daily with regards to my walking, I am now including several hills in the twice daily walks I do with my dog Hula. We currently go out for 45 minutes to an hour, and limit it to that only as there are other things to do in the day as well (no longer am I limited to stopping to 'catch my breath). Another goal is to give back to those who have enabled me to continue on with life, through support groups, volunteer work and sites such as this. Are these the types of goals you had in mind? Stay well, Jack

Hi Jack Thank you for reminding me about your survey. I will add my input later as it is time for lunch. YES whatever you like to share would be great. Just simply click on start a new thread at the top within this thread. Pick just one goal. Three months from now, choose another goal. I am sure in a few weeks we will have more folks writing in. For some, goal setting is not a priority or many like to keep their thoughts private.

My goal is to push negative out of my head when they occur and replace them with positive thoughts. It is hard and I have done it before but a yes i got lazy. So I would like that to be my goal.

When I was sick, thinking about all of things I wanted to do, one of the most important goals to me was to get out and enjoy the 4th of July. That may sound silly, but the 4th has always been my favorite holiday and it's a big deal in the small town where I live. Well, yesterday was the first 4th of July since my surgery. I started the day by riding my new bicycle to the parade with my wonderful husband. I had my dog in her puppy basket (very popular with the crowd). We watched the parade and then rode our bikes around town. Later, we went for a drive to watch the tourists (a popular activity here on the 4th). Last night, we went to the lake and watched the fireworks. I have missed the celebrations for 4 years, although I could always hear everything from my couch. Yesterday, the weather was beautiful, the crowds were huge and happy and I enjoyed every minute of it. One other goal was to learn how to golf. My husband and I used to skydive together, but that is no longer an option, so I decided to learn to golf so we could enjoy that together. While I was still sick, my husband and a bunch of his friends at the golf course bought me a set of purple golf clubs. They sat idle for two years. As soon as the snow melted this year, we hit the course. I am having a blast! I'm not very good, my swing is weak because my sternum is still healing, but I'm having fun! I don't care if I ever get "good" at the game. Being out in the fresh air with my husband, my snazzy purple clubs and my puppy (who is a great caddy!) is more fun than skydiving! I have other goals, some big, some small. I'm looking forward to reaching each one of them, and I intend to have fun while I'm at it. If it's not fun, it's not worth doing.

Hi Meagan! Congrats on your 4 pound loss....that's a great start! I had to lose 40 pounds to get listed for a double lung transplant at Mayo/Jax, and I am only 5 pounds away from my goal. I, too, am Diabetic (Type 2) and take Glimipiride and Januvia as well as Lantus Insulin. 40 years ago I lost 85 pounds on Weight Watchers, so I know that the program really works for me. This time I have lost 35 so far.....only 5 pounds to my goal to get listed. This is the only thing I have to do....everything else has been done. I am so close....... I actually go to meetings, because I need the discipline of "weighing in" each week and be accountable to another person. It somehow seems to keep me in control better, plus you really get some great interaction with folks in the same boat.....needing or wanting to lose some weight. They have lots and lots of encouragement, neat snacks to purchase, and some really good recipes too. Having said all that, I am also online with weightwatchers.com where I do my daily tracking, "points" value charts and find more great recipes. As to exercise, I use a recumbent bicycle that we have here at home and I do upper body exercises with a theraband and weights that I learned at Pulmonary Rehab. I have bulging discs at L3 and L4 and spinal stenosis too. This exercise doesn't seem to bother my back, and I'm grateful for that. Back problems can really be painful, so be sure to check with your doctor before beginning any exercise program. It's great to have a buddy on the weight watcher plan. Maybe we can keep in touch and encourage each other. Even though we're not supposed to, I weigh daily. That way I know when I'm making progress or not.

Hi Sally, Wow! Congratulations on your weight loss. You have done amazingly well and now you only have 5 lbs. to go. I am so proud of you. Although I didn't want to go to the meetings and preferred doing it online, I think it's a great motivator to go to the meetings. I didn't think I could do it on my own so my husband has joined me as he also needs to lose a few. It really helps to have a buddy because by Wednesday, I got a little frustrated. I had made the WW pasta primavera and it was awful. We were both starved but didn't say anything. About a half hour after we had eaten, my hubby was downstairs in the rec room, and I was watching TV in the den and I wandered into the kitchen muttering that I was starving. He heard me muttering and then yelled up the stairs that he was also starving ... haha. So we both had some diet jello and felt a bit better. So it really helps to have some company. I would also be interested in being your Weight Watcher buddy. I am interested to hear about those snacks you can buy. We bought some of the WW bread, but I couldn't eat it because it was whole grain and laden with potassium. I am learning to adapt my favorite dishes to WW's standards as well. I would be interested in corresponding with you about your herniated disk problems as well. Again, congrats on your weight loss. Pretty soon you will have fulfilled your requirements for your transplant and you will be breathing easy with new lungs. Looking forward to being Weight Watchers and herniated disk buddies. Oh, and can't forget, we are also Transplant Buddies. Meagan
