this is a hard one, as I have never been a runner but I began training about a month ago for the American Liver Foundation's Chilly Half Marathon in November. 13.1 miles, yikes, it is overwhelming when I think about it but in my heart I am running for Anthony and that helps me to get my sneakers on and get moving. To date I am running/ walking 2.5-3 miles a session, 4 times a week. I had a major accomplishment when I finished in less than 30 minutes for the first time last Wednesday. It was a powerful and motivating accomplishment !

Great. I entered a 5K in May. Just finishing it was a rush.

Hi Dawn You just brought back memories to when I use to jog in my 20's. I loved the feeling of jogging with others in races. You just inspired me to possibly get back into this again. I wish you the very best with your goal and cannot wait to see the pictures of you finishing the race. Anthony is very proud. I certainly believe that our loved ones who have passed on are still very connected to us. You are a beautiful soul.

Dawn: How exciting!! I know you will be able to do it because you are doing for Anthony! You have good motivation. We just did the Dash for Donation today in Columbus, Ohio. We just walked in the Family walk because of Sammy (our 6 yr. old). Next year I think we will do the 5k. I am sure that we will walk, but I might try running it. I have never been a runner, but there is always room for a challenge!! I wish you the best. Keep up the great training. God Bless!

Good Luck with your training. I have been running about 3 years now and just finished a Marathon last month just 4 months after finding out I have Liver Cancer. I am on the waiting list and running is about the only thing that keeps me sane. My advise: (1). Get a calender, plan out a training schedule and then try real hard to stick to it. (2.) every week increase your total mileage by about 10% and slowly increase the time of the run portion while decreasing the walk time. Once you can run non-stop for 3 miles find a local 5K race and enter. I guarantee you will not be last and once that feeling of accomplishment gets in your blood you will be unstoppable. |

Thank you Bobby, Congratulations on completing your 1st marathon. Thank you for the advice. I am just about ready to enter my 1st 5k. I am looking forward to crossing that finish line and blowing kisses to my brother in heaven. I am running for the American Liver Foundation and to date have raised 1595.00 for the cause. I shall keep you in my prayers as I am training!

Had my 1st team run with the Run for Research American Liver Foundation team in Boston last week. It was inspiring to be among runners who have ran multiple marathons, including Boston and meet our coach who will be running the Berlin marathon in the fall. Now for my progress. I feel as if I have gotten stronger and have made improvements in this time. I am having some difficulties with getting the breathing down and controlled which makes me have to stop running and walk for a spell. the weather here in New England has been a very wet and humid July and I don't think that combination along with my allergies is helping the breathing issue any. I am praying that I can soon increase my mileage and although I'm worried about finishing and not time. it would be nice to see some improvement in that area as well. More later

Congratulations, Dawn on what you have achieved so far! I hope that when I am strong enough and have enough weight on my bones that I can do running events like the ones in which you are participating. You are thus an inspiration to me. Keep up the good work!
