I was thinking what is lacking on this website and what could I do to create a video that could possible help others understand how to use this website.

If you are new to transplantbuddies and want to jump in and participate how many people do you think would benefit from a tutorial?

Do you think a video with instructions would be helpful? Do you personal use tutorials online?

Please share.....your thoughts as I always appreciate your feedback.

Hi Risa,
Sounds like a good idea to me, one thing to include would be the edit profile function for the signature box. Seems that gives many of the folks a hard time.
Stay well,
Jack

Hi Jack

Of course! Edit profile is top of the list. I am going add a few sentences on the Forum Sign up page but I doubt anyone will read it.

Would you write up a script? Have you ever made a video before? Anyone out there, if you want to create a transplantbudides video just let me know.

Edited to add: Check out the Forum sign up page. I added some information regarding the Signature box.

http://transplantbuddies.org/cgi/tbx/board-profile.cgi?action=register,

Please feel free to critque this page and make any corrections. I like to keep the wording to a minimal as many people do not read all the details.

Hi all,

Please click here and read what I wrote for the forum sign up page. http://transplantbuddies.org/cgi/tbx/board-profile.cgi?action=register

I changed this page many times. Please critique this page and let me know what else I could add that would make registration less confusing. On the user agreement page you can read what we have there as well.

THANK Y:-)U

I am not a video or tutorial person, but I think it would help to have something on how to post the photos added in there. I think that seems to be one of the areas where new members could benefit from the tutorial.

Rise': any kind of tutorial would be great. I use them a lot on the web....although you've designed this site to be so user friendly, I can imagine that there are some who might need just an extra nudge here and there. Thank you for your tireless work to this site. You are always thinking of ways to help out and reach more people. I pray you are blessed for your endeavors!!!

Thank you so much Lady Di and Jo

Your post have moved me to really think. Now if I can get some rest from all of the thinking I do LOL

This video will cost a lot of money so I need to plan for this accordingly.

Thank you for mentioning the photo problems.

Love and Hugs

Good morning,

Rise, I'm sorry I did not respond sooner - you asked if I had any video experience, sorry to say I do not, and the closest thing I have done to a tutorial would be an overhaul procedure I wrote for the USAF many years ago. Not to say I couldn't, just that I haven't.

Something I was thinking of was perhaps links in various places on the sign up page. Something like examples of signature panels to give an example of what could be done, or instructions on how to upload or resize photo's for the page (not sure I could resize my photo's but I seem to remember somebody mentioning doing this earlier). Not that a video is bad, but they are more expensive to do.

I think that this site is pretty 'user friendly' and that the majority of folks can figure the stuff out - or at least 'muddle through it' as my parents used to say.

Stay well all,
Jack

Thank you Jack for your idea. I could save a lot of money if had a demo instead of creating a video. Time will tell. I will have to really think about this.

I am hoping my webmaster can install our gd library that will automatically resize photos. I will remind him. He is very busy now.

I can only make some forum changes adding banners and text html but when it comes to php and advanced editing and videos, I would need schooling for this and I do not have the patience LOL to learn.

Rise,

Perhaps some of our younger folks could be of assistance here (not that you or I be old, I've just noticed that folks in HS or college can do many things on the computer / with web pages and so on - that older people just don't understand 'without schooling'). And I could be off base here, but are more of the folks with the questions older or younger?

Just some thoughts here . . .

Hi Everyone, All of your ideas are good and will save a lot of time for those of us (me), that are puter challanged.LOL. I didn't know the meaning, or how to use" user friendly" in a sentence a year ago.

"My Happy Place," is very user friendly. I found it easy to learn one thing at a time, reading the very clear instructions. If I had to learn more than one lesson as in a video, I would get behind anyway, 1. I never have time to sit long enough to concentrate, keeping Gabriel a lot. 2.If I am able to read, the content sinks in much faster.3. I will get overwhelmed and put it off,(never finish.) LOL! "O"

The way you changed the instructions are very clear. I love all the changes I see, A few jumped out at me because I've been online so little the last two months. It is so nice.

Lady DI, Jo, Jack, Y'all are treasures to me!!!!

My idea is please have instructions where I can read them over and over, when my "sometimers" is flareing up.

Thank you Jack and Kate

I am sorry I did not see your replies.

It seems that the new folks who are now joining are placing their information in their signature.

Kate- We do have a trouble shooting link at the bottom of the forums. I should probably move this to the top :-)
thanks for this idea. I actually started to work on this last year but kept putting it off. I need to do a few more things around here. Everything in time.

hugs

Rise,
As a brand new member to Transplantbuddies, I can tell you that I find the whole website a bit confusing. I think a video tutorial would be very helpful to guide one along the easier places first, and then on to the specialized topics as one becomes familiar with the site. I'll be one of the first to use it. Thanks, Sgrmy43
