I was wondering if anyone has donated or knows if any organizations will accept and use extra medical equipment. I have about a months worth of feeding bags and tubes for use with a kangaroo joey pump. The supplier told me they couldn't accept it as a return even though I didn't use any of them. Rather than throw them out, I would like to donate them to an organization that could put them to use. I thought about the RI Red Cross but their web site isn't very good and has limited contact information. I will probably call them tomorrow to see if they will take it. Keith

Good Luck, Keith Such medical equipment and supplies are tightly restricted as to redistribution. There are sanitation assurances that you cannot give, (no offense) and the liability for a professional organization is substantial. Professional licenses and registrations are in jeopardy if they participate in such transfers. I've been successful a couple of times by just asking other people who are similarly affected and using the same meds/equipment if they or their support group knows of anyone who could make use of it. Recently, I had about 6 months of Rapamune I had discontinued. I asked around and found a nurse in a transplant unit who would discretely get it to some patient who did not have adequate insurance. She is an old nurse and has done this several (many?) times. I knew I was NOT going to throw that much money down the toilet!! It's just an idea, but it has worked for me. I wish you success. Richard

Dear Keith, Have you ever heard of the Oley Foundation? It is a group for those who are either receiving tube feedings or TPN. They have an equipment/supple exchange that might help you to better find someone who would have need of the supplies that you are no longer using. You can find them on the web at www.oley.org. Best of wishes to you.

Thanks for the info everyone. I know all about the issues of redistributing medical equipment and medication but didn't know if a group that helps people in emergencies might keep supplies for such emergencies. Also didn't know if anyone here might be on a feeding tube. My doctors have threatened to put me back on the feeding tube the two times my PFT's have dropped. Reflux can be a big issue since I have scleroderma. I probably should have had the stomach surgery to prevent reflux so they would stop pointing to reflux as a potential issue. I will look into the Oley Foundation. Keith
