Hi Everyone... I am seriously considering lap band surgery, lap band because unlike the gastric that by-passes the stomach and goes directly to the intestines, the lap band does not do that and will allow food and meds to go where they go. However, I don't want to jeopardise my dble txp and I am an old lady!! But I can''t stand myself any longer.... Has anyone heard of or know someone who has had gastric surgery? I have made an appt. with a gastric surgeon to discuss this matter more fully and whether it is for me....Over the yrs I've mentioned this to txp but never get a straight answer. Just to lose wt the old fashioned way or think I am kidding... Thx, alese :o)

Hi Alese I would get several opinions from your transplant team as they know the risks for organ recipients. If they say no then respect their decision. Here is a little Tx Motherly advice coming from a re transplant patient. Don't do it! Simply said! Too many risks and with each new set of circumstances you introduce into transplant life, you will be creating too many risks. Learn to love yourself as you are! Eat healthy everyday, Exercise often or keep active and enjoy life. We age beautifully with love. Take good care of yourself and your new life

Following my first kidney transplant, I gained a tremendous amount of weight. I was up to 311 pounds (more, i think). The transplant doc was ready to pretty much make me have gastric bypass. it scared me so much, that I joined Weight Watchers about months later. I lost 136 pounds in a little over 2 years. You can do it!!!!!! Anne

Hi Rise' and Anne.. I appreciate both posts and will really consider them. My kidney doc has suggested the surgery. He has his dialysis patients do it as it appears there is alot of good from it. Rise' I hear you clearly but you have trouble keeping wt on! I certainly don't want to jeopardise my txp..... Anne, you were helpful in that you had a similar problem. I've done weight watchers successfully. But then again I've tried so many diets and then regain which I fear might happen with this surgery... I made an appt. with the surgeon and will question him further. I hope he cares and not just the money for another surgical procedure.. I will stay in touch. Thx again, alese
