The world's first combined heart and liver transplant was performed on a young girl named Stormie Jones on Valentine's Day, 1984 at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Stormie was six years old when she received her new heart and liver. Stormie received another liver in 1990 after her first liver became damaged by hepatitis. Sadly, Stormie passed away from cardiac arrest in 1990 a few months after receiving her second liver. Meagan, Thanks for posting those stories. I get all emotional when I think about Stormie--what an amazing girl who led the way. Hope you have some stories about yourself to share. I guess I'll go ahead and share a couple of press releases from Cedars-Sinai instead of hard to read news clippings. I'll post these on my blog also. Love & hugs

Rise', Stormie and I had a lot in common. Not only did we have the same type of transplant but we shared the same transplant date, Valentine's Day (different years of course). Also my middle name is Abigail and I'm called Gail by Nick, family and friends. If you spell Gail the other way you get Gale like in gales/storms - Stormie/Gail, get it? Like you, I always get upset hearing about ill children and wonder why they have to suffer like that. Bob, Thank you, and my liver is slowly growing back, minus some bile ducts, of course. Contrary to popular believe, the liver does NOT regenerate, but does grow back, but not necessarily in the same shape as before. The bile ducts do not regenerate. Just sharing. Kelli, My story is in my blog, but I guess I need to write the sequel huh? Part Deux??? Thanks for posting those press releases. I always get sad when I read what you have been through your entire life from birth, but I am so happy you finally got your heart and liver.

"Contrary to popular believe, the liver does NOT regenerate." Meagan, I'm sorry but I differ with you, lit'l lady. The liver has a remarkable capacity to regenerate after injury and to adjust its size to match its host. Within a week after partial hepatectomy, which, in typical experimental settings entails surgical removal of two-thirds of the liver, hepatic mass is back essentially to what it was prior to surgery. I have done extensive research on this subject, Still love ya', though Ol' Bob
