Just celebrated 5 year anniversary of single lung transplant and Boom! My family had a 24 hour GI bug but I got it and couldn't get it under control. I went to the ER for IV fluids but after going home was just as sick. Stupidly, I tried to just lay around and hope I got better. Long story short ended up in the hospital for a week to treat acute renal failure. The nephrologist said my kidneys took a big hit. This is the second time in 2 years this has happened and I have some really important info to share... Could be everyone already knows all this but I didn't. Nausea and loss of appetite are very telling symptoms of kidney failure! I have learned to never let myself become dehydrated without seeking medical treatment. All my levels went crazy, BUN of 16, creatinine 7, prograf 21, BP of 85/60 (I'm usually hypertensive). Unbelievably after a relatively short time my kidneys are on the mend - damaged but on the mend. The silver lining to this cloud is that my transplant doc has switched me from prograf to rapimune (sp). |

Congratulations on your 5 years though I don't think I'd repeat your process of celebration . . . My tx team made my switch to Rapamune after my 1 year anniversary, aside from ankle swelling I've had no side effects and it is much kinder to the kidneys and liver. Here's to many more celbrations (outside the hospital please) and a happy life . . . Stay well

Jennie- Congrats on five years! Jack- Fun fact; Did you know that Rapamune was discovered in the soil of Easter Island? And the native name for Easter Island is Rapa Nui, hence the name.
