Does anyone have any info on any lung transplant patients from 1955 at UNC. Our daughter, Bonnie Youngblood, was transplanted there, but sadly died from OB 4 years later. We're just wondering about our transplant support group from that time period. Thanks, Jerry Youngblood Alabama |

Jerry, What year did your daughter have her lung transplant? I know it was not 1955.....was it 1995, or 2005? I have many friends at UNC, and still do my yearly visit to the center. Dr. Thomas Egan has retired, but I was thrilled I saw him this past June, when he signed the most recent Taking Flight book I had published, and he wrote the Introduction for the book. ( He did the Introduction in 2002 as well). Let me know what year, I may have some folks you may know. I am so sorry your daughter died. My sister received lungs in 2001 at UNC and died in 2005 of Ovarian Cancer...but I am still in touch with her "group of lung recipients" that were done in her in approximate time and also in touch with her donor family. Take Care Joanne Double lung recpient 9/12/1997 |

Joanne, Sorry about the typo,,it was 1995. Christie Gott was the transplant coordinator and Dr. Egan was her surgeon. Can't remember the social workers name that did the support group meetings. There was a young man, Frankie Avilla, that was transplanted after Bonnie. He was from New Orleans. There were several others, but most died even before Bonnie. I hope and pray that post transplant treatments are better and more successful. Thanks for getting back to me and I pray that things continue to go well for you. Jerry |
