My transplant center (Cleveland Clinic) discourages supplements, and I understand. There are a lot of supplements out there, and the effects, if any, on the transplant may be unknown or poorly understood. However, I do wonder about CoQ10. I am on a statin, and I have seen a study that heart transplants on statins have better survival. OK. But statins deplete you of CoQ10.

Are any of the heart transplants here taking CoQ10?

Any comments?

I had a double lung transplant, but before the transplant, I had had a minor heart attack during a COPD exacerbation, and due to a blocked artery, I had a stent placed. As such, I am regularly tested for heart issues, and my transplant team has me on statins and also CoQ10. It was me that asked about CoQ10, my doctor didn't propose it, but said it was a good idea. We didn't discuss it any more than that.
By the way, CoQ10 is not inexpensive and can be very pricey, depending on where you get it.
I just bought some from Puritan's Pride. I got 7 bottles of 60 softgels, 200mg for $45 with a coupon they sent me in the mail. This is less than half the price I have seen elsewhere for 200mg softgels. They are also cheaper than anywhere without the coupon. If you sign up with them, they will send you their coupons.

John,
I too had my transplant at CCF and am also on a statin. The Docs actually put me on CO10 to stop the leg pains I was having. so it shoudn't be a problem.

Yep. Been on it for about a year. I don't have any leg pain anymore. I'm on other supplements as well. Magnesium, Calcium, Fish Oil, multi vitamin. All told to me by the Docs to take. The immunosuppresants mess with our magnesium and calcium levels so I've been on these since day one.

Thanks, Holly. They also have me on Mg and Ca and MV. I'm doing chia seed instead of fish oil. I was a vegan at the time, not any more, but have stayed with the chia seed.
