More than likely if it is ascites, your weight would have increased by a few pounds. Given your symptoms, I would head to the emergency room. Regardless of what this is, a physician should evaluate you.

Yes, it certainly does sound like ascites. I agree with Joe, get to your Dr or an ER asap. Has your salt intake increased? That's usually what puts my husband in that condition.

It may be something other than ascites, but it certainly sounds very serious. Please go to a hospital as soon as possible.

Please check with your doctor ASAP. He may order a Cat scan for you. It will show everything inside of your abdomen/pelvis. Why wait? |

hi i have only seen my gp and he did not seem very conserned by it i live on a little island in scotland so the local hospital is somewhat limited i was due to have bloods done anyway so they have been sent off just need to wait for the results i had bloods done 2 weeks ago as well docs don't seem to concerned that my LFTs are not very good i see my transplant centre at the end of the month which is in edinburgh my bloods are ALP-803U/L AST-101U/L ALT-61 GGT-655U/L and GLOBULIN-41G/L and i am told these are slightly better than they have been but my bloods have been raised since about last october do you think i should push to find out why they are still so elevated i really don't know what to do and i had a lot of complications i am tierd of it all never seem to feel well i am also aneamic haemoglobin is 9.4 i have two kids to run after and feel so exhausted that i am not doing them justice i have had a lot of complications since transplant i have had 7 stents put in and taken out i hate ERCPS i might add CMV, c. diffe, recurring cholangitis and more infections than i would care to count i had bad reations to the antiviral drugs and azathioprine one of the anti rejection meds which made me severely neutropenic so now just take prograf sorry if this is a bit of a rant i just feel like i don't know where i stand anymore with it all i never seem to get clear answers from anyone and emotionally i think things are just now hitting me i had acute liver failure with no explination and a finding it hard to come to trms with how my life is now i am 29 now and had my transplant at 26 i have a 6 and an 8 year old son and i am finding it so dam hard to live happily at the moment i feel sick every day of my life and i amutterly fed up with it all i know this sounds really ungratefull as i am still alive but i can't help how i feel and i am sorry i was ill for 7 days before i was transplanted and it has been such a long road to getting better and i still don't feel like i am getting any closer i need to add that i don't remember any of it i have memories of being home with the kids and feeling unwell and being slightly jaundiced and then nothing for three weeks when i woke up in ICU being told i had had a liver transplant post transplant i had renal failure and was on diayalisis for a few weeks i also had sepsis hence the longer than average stay in ICU i had to re learn things afterwards i couldn't walk for weeks as i had about 3 stone of fluid on my legs and abdomen and things like eating where hard for me to do i know i shouldn't dwell on all of this the thing is i had a roux-en-y in september last year and was lead to believe that things would return to normal afterwards and i am so sad that they haven't i haven't really had to talk about any of this stuff to anyone so that is probably why i am rambeling on a bit i am just very fed up with my self at the moment sorry thank you for your replies lynds |

Hi Lynds, Your journey has been difficult. I can tell you that cholangitis will cause your LFT's to be out of the normal ranges. My liver transplant was due to PSC-Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. My LFT's were all above normal, I was tired beyond belief, and my stomach was distended at times. I am somewhat surprised that you still have these symptoms with a Roux-en-Y, but it is still possible. I can no longer have an ERCP because the scope is not long enough to make the loop created by the Roux-en-Y that was done as part of my transplant. Can you call your transplant center and advise them of the changes? You need to be seen by an expert. Cholangitis is not fun and needs antibiotics to prevent further complications.
