Hi all. Two weeks ago I went in for my annual CT and Endoscopy. And at the same time my doc was monitoring my hemoglobin because it was low. So my GI doc and and regular doc decided to send me to the hemotolgist to check out my levels. Turns out they went from 10. to 8 in about a week. So I got iron. The endoscopy and CT were clear, no bleeding. The hemotologist said is is likely a microtear that opens and closes and blood escapes into me. There are no tarry/black stools. Anyone ever heard of this? He did not say where he thought the bleeding was. Just checking with the real experts!

Hi Gary: I have been thru this a couple of times in the past 4 years. The first time, I was in the hospital for 5 days getting blood, going thru a colonoscopy and endoscopy. The test did not show anything of concern so I was sent home and iron was prescribed for 3 months. The next time, my gastro Dr. - who has performed 3 colonoscopies on me - said there was no need to go thru this procedure again. I quickly agreed! He decided that a "camera pill" would show more about what is happening in my intestines. This "pill" is about the size of a multi-vitamin pill that contains a tiny camera that takes thousands of photos as it works its way thru your system. You take the pill" and go home - or wherever - and return about 10 hours later. You are wearing a belt with a small computer that captures the images. The Dr. then looks at all this on a screen to determine where the blood is coming from. He said basically the same thing that your Dr. said. He added that this would likely happen again as long as I took aspirin and coumadin. Oh...you do not have to retrieve the camera. Hope this info helps a little.
