I am pre-transplant and have PBC and lupus. I have had something happen to me three times now and I don't know what it means. I get a feeling like I'm gassy and then I get intense and I mean intense abdominal pain. It goes from my diaphram straight down the middle and sometimes out to the side. It is most intense in the between ribs/diaphram area. The first two times it went away after a few hours and a hot water bottle then it turns into diarhea. This time it lasted all day and I was in so much pain that I almost went to the hospital. It felt like someone was grabbing my insides and twisting them apart. AT first it helped to lay on my stomach but after awhile that and the hot water bottle didn't help. I was in agony! Now my abdomen feels tender but the big pain is gone. I had diarhea and that stopped now. Could this be a bowel problem or could it be associated with my liver? Has anyone experienced this before? Thanks, Lori

I have had similar pain. I am a liver transplant for PSC. I also have ulcerative colitis. If you still have you gall bladder that could be giving you the pain. Clogged bile ducts or an infection of the bile ducts (cholangitis) could cause the pain. Both of these require a physician's intervention. Regardless of the pain, you need to see a doctor. I urge you to see a doctor now.

Well I contacted my specialist and he says that what is happening to me is not associated with my liver disease. He thinks its irritable bowel syndrome?? Oh well, I'll check it out locally here with my family doc.

What you are describing sounds somewhat similar to what I experience sometimes if I am having bowel trouble although my symptoms do not last so long. I hope that your family doctor is able to help or perhaps direct you to a specialist who can. May you soon get some answers and relief. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Many hugs.

Thankyou for your thoughts and prayers. I haven't had an episode in the last week but I do see my family doctor soon so hopefully he will run some tests. Lori
