The past few weeks, my stomach has been large and I've been uncomfortable, short of breath, sore back and have gained over 20lbs in about a month. I've have about 3 drains thus far (liver disease, cirrhosis). So, I scheduled another drain for this past week. They only took just under 3 liters and I still feel the same, look the same and I am only about 4 lbs less now. I was also scheduled for an MRI right after the drain. They did the same routine last month, but because of all the fluid in my stomach, the images didn't turn out. So, after this recent drain, I had the MRI.... and through the entire MRI, the tech kept complaining about the ascites being a problem. And this was about 20 minutes after the drain.

Has anyone had this problem with a drain... ie... didn't really seem to make a difference?

yes.i don't know your circumstances, this was a very hard time in my life, every 3 or 4 days they drained my abdomen,i could have hand a tap put in (and if it got infected no transplant for a while)or as was my case, hepititis d had killed my liver so they drilled a hole through my liver and put a stint in it,i had to take lacktilous(sp)all the time.1 good thing came out of this in that i was moved to the next possible donor, and i got my new life faster.

and if it gets infected-no transplant)
