We just received a call from the NP that my M-I-L is rejecting the liver. She's going for blood work tomorrow, and an EKG. She had an MRI done last week, and they saw extra liquid on her liver, which might be coming from her heart.

They added Myforic to the med list. Depending on how high her numbers are by Wednesday, she will be admitted.

Have anybody experience this before?

Thanks in advance. May God Bless you all.

I just went through rejection, although my heart was not affected. Myfortic is a stronger immune suppressant which will work with Prograf in keeping the immune levels down to prevent further rejection. They may also increase her Prograf levels.

I was put on high doses of a steroid called Solumedrol for 3 days. It resulted in something called an immune reset, which brings down the immune level to virtually nothing, such that the liver can be re-accepted. The process has significant impacts on the body. It made me feel weak and emotional for a few days following the treatment. It also caused me to contract several bacterial infections. I was hospitalized for 3 days, and spent 3 more days at home recuperating.

Then numbers settled back to what they were supposed to be about three weeks ago.

She will be in my prayers.

Thank you so much, Mohan.
I'm glad you're feeling much better. Its nerve racking when you hear the word "rejection".

I will keep you posted on her status. Thank you for responding so quickly!

God bless

I too show "signs of rejection" I've lived with "extra" fluid since tp. I gained 50# of it in 2 days. I've got a stable ascending aortic anuerism and already had an angioplasty for the connection from the liver to the vena cava. My feet and legs still swell during the day and I've had 3 biopsies and 2 "scope" procedures since tp. Of course we've adjusted the meds and they've drawn 10 gallons of blood :-). I get encouragement from this site and another I belong 2 when I read about what others go through. I'm still working, drawing air, am ambulatory and blessed to be alive. I have a great team of medical folks, loving family and there's no doubt the grace of God.
