I am currently seeing a hepatologist at the toronto liver centre and just found out he's moving back to England. I have not been too happy with the way things have gone there the last while. I just had a checkup there (every 6 months) and I live 8 hours away and as you know it isn't cheap to do these medical appt's. Anyway, I went there and he didn't even see me! His nurse did! I was wondering if anyone dealt with hepatologists in London or somewhere else and was treated with kindness and compassion and not a research case or lab experiment. I am not responding to my meds and they want me to start a research program but whenever I have questions to ask they don't seem to care to answer them

Hi Lori..... It appears you are a pre transplant patient. Are you listed for a transplant. I am not in Canada. I am in the US but I experienced some indifference about my concerns from time to time before my transplant but when I needed the information as time got closer, the team ended up being very caring and helpful.

Maybe I just reached a different level of care as my health deteriorated and I was listed.

But seeing a nurse instead of a doctor doesn't sound right for someone who needs a transplant . Especially with apts 5 months apart. My experience was different. Maybe someone from your area can help clear up your questions.

You mention expensive medical apts. I thought Canada had a National Health program and residents did not pay, like much of European countries. How does that work??

Thanks for responding. Yes, we do have OHIP and thankfully it covers doctor fees and such but the cost of travelling and taking time off work etc is costly. Especially when I'm only working part time. I heard some things about London Ontario and was hoping someone would know about that one.

Thanks Lori
