Because of recent rejection issues, I have been put back on Myfortic and my Prograf dose has been increased from 1 to 1.5 mg, twice a day. I have noticed increased sensitivity to food as a result, having had two bad bouts of severe gastric trouble in the past month. Has anyone else been through something similar? Also, I am doing my best to not eat out in restaurants much, but I am going to lunch with a buddy here at work tomorrow. Does anyone know whether Feta cheese is okay for us "transplantees" Thanks

Just curious, but do you take 40mg of Nexium during your morning dosage? My husband used to live on Tums but since he had his liver transplant, he's been taking Nexium which was prescribed along with all of his other meds. Supposedly, Nexium is used to counteract the harshness of the anti rejection meds. |

I took Nexium for several years after my transplant, mainly because I had esophageal bleeding as a symptom prior to my transplant. After several years, I was taken off it. I haven't heard about taking Nexium or its generics for 'harshness'.

When I first had my transplant, I would get heart burn from the Prednisone. They had me on Zantac and that helped. As for whats off limits with eating, I'm guessing that depends on the patient. I was allowed to eat whatever I wanted as long as I could tolerate it. The only thing that seemed to bother me was anything tomato based.

I take Nexium daily due to problems with heartburn and acid reflux that I have on a constant basis (partly I think because my esophagus does not contract like it should and I have a little bit of gastroparesis, slowing of gastric emptying still). Do the foods you are having trouble with share any particular qualities, such as being high fat, high fiber, fibrous, spicy, and/or etc? Do steroids have any effect on gastric motility? Sometimes I have developed gastritis and had bile reflux. Then I would be put on Carafate and that would help some. I hope that you are able to find something that will help bring you some relief. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Many hugs and best of wishes.
